CFB Week 9 Thread

State has had 3 TD’s that were almost TD’s. But when you give up 50+ points it still does not matter. But way too many missed opportunities today.
Ole Miss took care of business. May not be pretty but ugly wins are always good in my book.

And right now any kind of win for State would look good.

Nice second half for OM and they win by 12.

State’s defense is even worse than everyone feared it would be. Also numerous red zone failures today and some poor luck on some goal line reviews.

Coleman Hutzler cannot return next year. You have to give your fan base hope that the defense can improve…. And then you have do a wholesale fix of the roster and probably replace several assistants.

Ole Miss has struggled on offense way too much this year without Tre Harris on the field.
The first half yesterday mirrored that.

The second half was the best half of football Ole Miss has played this year against a team with a pulse.

The defense continues to play great overall, the killing penalties continue to be a concern.

Ole Miss stayed at #18 in both polls, I guess that’s fair. Many say that’s too low, many say that’s too high. Shoot- I have no idea if it’s low or high… so MAYBE right?

I'm not too much for criticizing players for ability, but the State defensive talent and coaching seems awful. Are there any SEC level players there?

There is little to none SEC talent on State’s defense. I know the new DC is getting a lot of heat but I don’t think Buddy Ryan would be doing any better quite frankly. You have to have the horses to compete.

As a side note to not criticizing players, now that we're in the NIL era, it feels like that has, or will, change as one of the consequences. They are, for good or bad, now essentially professionals. When a player agrees to come play for money that opens the door to criticism for performance.

Also, as an aside, several teams that wouldn't seem to have any more resources and tradition than MSU, are finding some success - Iowa State, Indiana, Boise State, Illinois.

That is true and it shows how bad our defensive recruiting actually was under Leach and Arnett. At the same time our scheme and adjustments have been terrible. If you don't have lockdown corners and can't get pressure on the QB you can not paly a 3 man front defensive scheme.

Isaac Smith is a solid player at safety. But he’s not an All American or anything. and he’s literally all State has.
