Well of course, and I laughed when I did it. I actually do keep up with a lot of teams statewide, watching for recruits, top coaches, and upcoming young players.  I watch Ocean Springs and a lot of Coast teams, and the quality is pretty good. I know that winning a ring is what it it’s all about, but playing rivalry games, getting kids scholarships, and bragging a little is okay, even if we don’t always make a lot of noise in the playoffs.  Besides, we’ve never lost to a tiny private Christian school with 15 players that I can remember.

GCS would lay it on Ocean Springs. They not a sunshine team! 😂

Last year ain't this year lol

And? I’ve actually been nicer than I have to be saying OS is the team to beat. I think they’re playing the best football right now. But A game to A game Oak Grove would smack them into soccer season like we always do.

I understand sarcasm just fine. Since you decided to joke about who you haven’t lost to, I decided to joke about who you have lost to. I can understand why that’s less amusing.

Your team has the credentials to brag, and if I had your history I wouldn’t take any guff off of anybody, especially the new team on the block. GCS, whatever you think about their little all star team, could beat any team in any classification. That includes Ocean Springs. Adding them to the schedule in the middle of the year showed guts. Still, having said that, they might still be scoring if they hadn’t been so tired and cramped up. Their team was so small they all rode down to Hattiesburg in one car. C’mon, man! It’s a 2A Sunday school team that outmanned the state champs. I’m still going to dog you for losing that game.

Having seen all the 6A coast contenders, OS is the only team capable of wining multiple playoff games.  Harrison Central and Gulfport will be fodder for whichever team they match-up with -- neither team is worth a damn in the context of truly competitive football.  I like Gulfport's JR QB (he's a gamer) and they have athletes as always but they are marginally coached as is Harrison Central.

D'Iberville is too one dimensional and their defense is average this year.  They're certainly coached better than most teams on the coast though and have maintained their physicality through the recent coaching changes.  I'm not demeaning them because they've been the most consistently competitive program in coast 6A for years now but they've played two good teams, beating Picayune (a team which mirrors them) and being pummeled by the other.  Pascagoula ran the ball well against that defense but their own incompetence in the red zone stymied drives.

The key for OS will be the first playoff game and adjusting to the physicality and athletic nature of the other region although they will have an advantage this year in having earlier played a 6A team from that area with those attributes.  IMO, they can match any team in the state offensively but can their defense get two or three stops over the course of a game?  Special teams wise, they will almost certainly have an advantage with Edmiston kicking.

Great scouting report starting with the O.S. kicker improving every game. 47 yard field goal and every kickoff into the end zone is much better than the start of the year. Your also right about the physicality of the playoffs and the pine belt teams. O.S. pushed d’Iberville around to my surprise, but that will be hard to do against a Brandon or Pearl. Your Warriors can help us out by beating G’port and Hcentral these next two weeks. I don’t see a lot of offense from either team. Y’all had better get back to bully ball and figure out how to complete a pass. O.S. will score against anybody, so the key for them is turnovers on defense, which is how they beat d’Iberville. I’ve got them favored on the road against G’port and Hcentral both, and hoping that the Warriors can win both games too. See ya in the playoffs.

I graduated from Pascagoula.

Oh, shat, sorry for the confusion. I bet if you’re a Panther, you can’t be happy with your team/coaching right now. I thought that good QBs would carry them this year, but they looked lost when I saw them last week.

Too many issues to discuss here.  I’ll refrain from writing my true feelings here but it’s a $h/! Show to say the least.

Sorry bout that. You’re welcome to jump on the Greyhound bandwagon if you can stand us. I always thought that Goula put out some great athletes.

That’s cute. Especially coming from someone who got upset about me saying Meridian would be a tough opponent.

The Meridian that I remember was a state powerhouse who beat us, and sometimes your team like a drum on a regular basis. Having them back to some stage of comeback is a good thing. My guys cannot afford to overlook anybody until they show that they can play their best in the big games. It’s looking more likely that Meridian could be a first round foe, and would be a good test for Ocean Springs. Any team from up in the backwoods would present a real challenge, and O.S. will only win by playing their best game and improving their defense. Looking forward to the challenge. Thankfully, there’s no GCS in your future.

David, did you really just say that Meridian was from up in the backwoods?

There are many back woods towns and high schools in Mississippi but Meridian is not one. Brandon is not one. Petal is not one. Warren Central is not one. Pearl is not one. Oak Grove is not one.

Ocean Springs has a very good team this year. If they finish first in the Coast Division then they will host either Meridian, WC, Petal or possibly Pearl. The Division is a muddle mess with the exception of OG and Brandon who should finish 1/2 or 2/1.

So good luck with one of those back woods teams when the time comes.

Long time OS fan here ....We know we still have a long road ahead of us. Gotta get through Gulfport and Harrison Central before we look forward to the playoffs. We know any of those pine belt teams can show out on any given Friday night. We were very close last year against a very good NWR team. OS is a totally different team this year though. Since that opening week thriller with Clinton, the Hounds have  improved every week. I feel this team is peaking at the right time to make a run at south state. (I do see OG and OS playing for south state this season).

Just tweaking some of the stuffy guys in here. We just think that we live in heaven down here, so everything else is just okay. I spend a lot of time in those backwoods towns, too.

you’ve got a pretty good handle on how this is going to play out in the playoffs this year. O.S. wouldn’t see Brandon or O.G. until the south state finals, which would be hosted by the  region 3 rep, making it even more unlikely that O.S. can pull the upset. But, we can dream, huh?

Had no idea… Wow he may not be at USM then. Ha

He’s a pretty good baseball player, but if he keeps improving, he’ll be close to the best QB in the state by next year. O.S. has three 6’5” wide receivers who give him good targets, and his running is legit, with more speed than anybody on the field. I don’t know if he’s SEC material, but he would be a star at USM.
