I could be wrong but in another scenerio, if West Jones beats Wayne Co, they will both be 5-2 in region play. West should be the 2 seed and Wayne the 3 based on the tiebreaker of west winning. So if HHS and Florence both win that will leave Laurel and Florence at 4-3 then only the head to head tiebreaker comes into play and Florence is in.  If WC WJ and Laurel all finish 5-2 that tiebreaker will be determined on the WJ-WC score on Thursday.

Vott, you mustn't have doubts.  Y'all will beat Laurel.  Just go get the damn jug.

I believe we will beat Laurel for sure. I just hate that they can still get in even after a loss

Well even if they do, we will have to take care of them in the first round.  If y'all take care of business and put a thumping on Laurel and Florence consumes that last diabetic cupcake then everything that could possibly have been done to keep Laurel out of the playoffs has been done at that point.

It seems that the Gautier-Picayune game is meaningless. This thread has already given the game to Picayune. I have a ton of respect for the Maroon Tide because they are a traditional power every year. They have earned all of their accolades. Some teams in3-5A have already determined the 4-5A champion, therefore they know there playoff opponents. Gautier has had an outstanding season despite little recognition by the local media. A majority of highlight shows by one local station floods us with 6A highlights. Ocean Springs deserves the coverage. Other than OS, 64-A is an embarrassment for the Gulf Coast. No doubt!!! Most of the highlights for Picayune's awesome team were mostly against Gulfport and d'Iberville. 4-5A has shown up well against 4-6A. Review the schedule and look at the scores. Gautier may come out on the losing end against Picayune but, I don't think they are going to be the pushover that many think. Ask other 4-5A teams about Gautier. The game is still scheduled to be played. I Think!!! Remember last year? The Braves weren't supposed to have a chance. Super Bowl III the Jets didn't have a chance against the Colts. I might be making long sad drive from Picayune on Thursday night but, THE GAME STILL HAS TO BE PLAYED.

Hey buddy, relax. It is not that serious. No offense to you or the Gators,  but what have they done in the last 15+ years to make people take them serious? Year after year, Gautier is loaded with athletes and either does not make the playoffs or gets bounced in the 1st Round. So do not take it too personal if people on this board do not take Gautier that seriously. I actually picked them to make it to South State in a rematch with Picayune in another thread. If there was a year for Gautier to make a run, it is absolutely this one and I think they will.

ALWAYSI agree wholeheartedly. Gautier has had awesome talent over the years and ALWAYS disappointed. Many Gautier fans know the reasons for these failed seasons. Those reasons will not be stated on this board but, most football knowledgeable fans also know the reasons. We think that we have the best QB in the state. Other than the QB, the Gators have lots of offensive firepower coming back next year. The defense is young with many returnees next year. Like Coastfootballfanm  said, we have had the talent before. Every year is a new year.

Great post Gator22.  No one is overlooking Gautier I can assure you, but this Maroon Tide football team is quite a thing of beauty.  Will Picayune get challenged Thursday night?  Absolutely, but I don't see how they will come up on the short end of the stick in this one.  Even if Gautier were to lose Thursday night, hope is not lost at all.  Y'all still get in the playoffs just like us and you will still be able to control your own destiny at that point.  In other words, we will probably see y'all again back in Picayune.  The dining scene in Picayune is not that extravagant, but we do have some good places to eat though.  If you need some recommendations for Thursday, just shoot me a PM.

If we didnt have a home basketball game Thursday night I would have made the trip down 59.

Maroon, you may or may not like this. Even with a loss to HHS this week, Laurel can still make the playoffs. First Florence has to beat Natchez. Wayne co has to beat West Jones. That would create a 3 way tie between WJ Laurel and Florence with 4-3 region records. WJ beat Florence by 12 but lost to Laurel by 7 so they are at a +5. Laurel beat WJ by 7 but lost to Florence by 1 so they are at +6. Florence lost to WJ by 12 but beat Laurel by 1. That makes Florence at -11. Since 12 is the most points you can win by on a tiebreaker, I believe it is going to take HHS winning by 12 or more for Florence to get in.  So if Laurel gets in, it looks like they will play Picayune in 1st round.

did we already beat gautier?

I can assure you that Picayune isn't overlooking Gautier. We know all about your QB and offense and what they are capable of. We played him last year and the year before and he is a great QB. I feel like if Picayune's defense can shut the gator offense down enough and keep them on the sidelines we will control the game. I like the test we are going to get this Thursday night. Roll Tide

Vott, do you play an integral part of the Hattiesburg Tiger home basketball festivities?

Maroon. The official playoff scenarios for region 3 came out. For Laurel to not make it Wayne County has to lose as well. Scorebook live posted it

If WJ beats WC and Hattiesburg beats Laurel, then WJ 2nd WC 3rd Florence 4th (if they beat Natchez) otherwise Laurel 4th.

If WJ beats WC and Laurel beats Hattiesburg, then 3 way tie @ 5-2, goes to points for 2nd, then head to head 3rd and 4th.
Laurel currently at +4, WC is +3, WJ is -7. If WJ beats WC by 12 or more. WJ 2nd WC 3rd Laurel 4th.
If WJ wins by 11 or less, then Laurel 2nd WJ 3rd WC 4th.

If WC beats WJ and Laurel beats Hattiesburg, then WC 2nd Laurel 3rd WJ 4th

If WC beats WJ and Hattiesburg beats Laurel, then WC 2nd Laurel 3rd WJ 4th

Basically, if WC beats WJ Thursday, the seedings are set before Hattiesburg vs Laurel Saturday.

So pretty much it’s going to be Vancleave at Hattiesburg the first week of playoffs.   Ouch

The game that will be interesting is East Central at our #2 seed. That will be one to keep an eye on.

How  healthy is East Central ?

Slick I haven't tried to touch the Wayne County-West Jones game tomorrow with a 10 foot pole because I honestly don't know what to expect there.  If y'all come out on top, which is what I'm leaning towards then I guess y'all will be facing East Central.  I really don't know how banged up they are, but something tells me if they have to make the drive to Waynesboro they'll probably be a good sized underdog in that one.
