slicklizard
A little late with this week’s rankings. It took a little time with our new selections. I said to myself when I made the commitment to do the rankings this this season that I would put my all into every one and not just throw something out there. i have always thought that if your poll was correct as the season went on your teams would start to stay the same every week. I think this one is starting to do that. Our top six are starting to cement themselves and the spots under them are beginning to show the playoff type teams. Some good football in this class is coming up in the next few weeks. Get off of your couch and get out to see these game. (Deonte). I would like to meet most of you before this season is finished. I’m not getting any younger. Heroes are always remembered but legends live forever. 1. Picayune - They got bloodied a little when gravel got kicked up after they knocked East Central to the ground. Some could point to injuries but that and the depth behind the injured make up the strength of a team. Bottom line they didn’t panic and got it done. Hosts West Harrison who don’t play defense so you can infer what the result will be. 2. West Jones- This seat was too big for East Central. The mustangs ninth grade was better than South Jones so the starters didn’t even put any wear on their cleats. Hosts Florence- the slide to the bottom continues for Florence and this game may make them evaluate if the post season is really anything they want to be a part of. 3. Gautier- Basically went up against a defense of air in West Harrison. I was considering putting Little Debbie as their mascot and still might do it. @Vancleave. Seriously if the gator defense doesn’t stymie this quasi 4A team I’m looking at dropping Gautier to six or seven. It’s just gnawing at me they are too high. On the other hand it may not be fair either. They have been winning. 4. Wayne County - that was big hurdle our boys overcome last Friday in Brookhaven. I think last season or even earlier this season we would have let them come back and win that game after the cheating refs did all they could for them. It’s high time someone put a end to that crooked operation they have there. It all starts with running their people off of the visitors sideline but that’s all about that for now. Hosts Natchez. I guess we could sink some post holes and drag in brush from the wood line onto the field to make it more a home feel for their team but maybe the tailgate crew will feed them some food after the game before their long ride back. We need the rest they will give our starters anyway before next week. 5. West Point - they look to be really hitting their stride right now and should cruise to another district title, Could someone from West Point post how many region titles they have won in a row ? It’s got to be approaching some kind of record. Hosts Lake Comorant. They played the Point tough in the past but I think West Point is about to start sending a message to the rest of the north. Lake will be the paper they write it on. 6. Vicksburg - on the rise and have some big top ten matchups looming. @Ridgeland. Vicksburg is hard nosed and will physically dominate the punch drunk hosts down I-20. 7. East Central- They held the #1 team to under forty points which is an accomplishment but didn’t do enough to stay top five. Sorry. Hosts Long Beach. That was a tough physical game the Hornets played in the house that Dodd built last Friday. Good for them Long Beach is the Boudreauxs butt paste they need for their wounds. Enjoy the glorified scrimmage. 8.Neshoba Central- the one thing about this team is they have been the truth. They have weeded out the pretenders they have faced up there. That’s good enough to secure them an opportunity to rise in the primo rankings. Hosts cypress, oops Jim Hill. Forget about it. Might as well take hits from the bong and jump around because there won’t be much to this game. 9. Hattiesburg- Vott, Deonte I know y’all have been casting an eye towards these rankings seeing when I put the Tigers in it. I have never really cared for the way Tony Vance conducts himself, or his staff for that matter on the sidelines .That said it’s about football in the final statement and I have to respect his game. He has kept on plugging and assembling different parts within this team and made it work. It’s time to start throwing the non region games out of the mix. They are more than in the mix in our region and have earned their way to this spot Hosts - Brookhaven. Crookhaven can’t bring those cheating refs and sideline instigators on road games so they might not even score. It will be a wrestling match for a few minutes but the Tigers will roll the panthers right on back to the other side of the state. 10. Holmes County- best of the worst. Their coach is a good one and is a true story of a man who took a bad life decision and turned that stuff right back around into a positive. He is a walking example of redemption and grace. A person to be looked up to. Hosts Provine. If Holmes overlooks Provine they will get beat. If they are starting to get right for the final push they will dismantle the Rams Edited October 13, 2022 by slicklizard 1
maroontide06
Having that Henleyfield sponsorship must’ve pushed things over the top. I don’t know how you keep outdoing yourself Slick, but man this week’s post sent chills down my back. These polls just keep getting better and better. Telling you “great job” doesn’t feel like that is even remotely sufficient, but this stuff you’ve been posting is absolutely superior. Thank you for the effort you put into this. Still alot of football left. West Jones better come out hot and on fire. I have a coin flip opinion on Florence. If what I see holds true WJ should be able to route Florence Gautier I was a believer in them the past few years so I refuse to this season. Maybe it's different. Like you said wont know until due time.

I wasn’t really that impressed with their offense in Wayne. West Jones defense is a bad matchup fir Flo. 27 minutes ago, wpgreenwave51 said: Won the district 4 straight years. There is kind of a little kink there. They actually aren’t sponsoring yet. Sometimes you have to make the first move. I’m going to keep throwing out different fake sponsors every week until someone bites.

HHS kicked off 5 times with 4 going out of bounds the one time the kicked stayed in bounds he returned it to the 10yd line. Next play they scored. Other td was a 12yd run after a busted coverage on 3rd and 20. Final td was a sustained drive that they just went down the field and scored on about a 20yd pass. HHS had 5 turnovers that game. 4 fumbles and an INT. They left a lot of points out there. Easily could have scored 42.
David44
Excellence again Slick, I like West's defense also matching up well against Florence. But the offense and Special teams have to limit the turnovers. Florence seems to be a well coached, grind it out team, that will capitalize on other team mistakes. As for their vaunted Kick returns, WJ kicker against Natchez put every kick in the end zone but 1, so that will be important tonight. As for last week, the 28 10 result for the Tide was the one that raised my eyebrows. A win's a win, and I guess when winning by 18 is questioned, maybe we have set the standards to high for Picayune, but they certainly have impressed so far. East Central is always a tough opponent for Picayune. It's like playing a mirror. We had our sophomore WB playing QB and that was a major difference in the game because it was something that East Central didn't prepare for and couldn't. If you're Picayune you take a 28-10 win over East Central every day of every year.

Seem slow. Rest of defense looks small but that’s because the line is big. Most of what I saw of them in 2 games they do not tackle well. Mostly ram tackle. Rarely will 1 guy bring down someone alone. They at times appear to have no clue what play they are running. Safety is a ball hawk. offense, huge o line. 2 guys that can block anyone. The rest not so much. The qb wants to run first. Rarely sets feet when he throws. Most of the passes are thrown in a direction while hoping a wr makes a play on it. Wr’s are fast with some height. Rb is tough. They seem to get most success running behind those 2 big o linemen. But they tend to want to run around the ends more than what they can do the best which is run between tackles. Offensively sounds like the typical Earnest team. Basically the same thing he did at Collins except it worked.
