Better than Brandon?

I’d say yes at the time they played. With a healthy MC lineup it was close with West Jones. The following week, with a healthy lineup, MC whipped Brandon pretty good. That West Jones defense had some VERY good athletes.

Gautier and Ocean Springs is a jamboree. OS plays @ Clinton on Thursday night week one.

This jamboree should be electric, with two of the top QBs in the state. Also, the actual opening game with O.S. in Clinton should be a good one. I haven’t seen much talk about Clinton’s team that was pretty good last year. Ocean Springs will score with anybody, and have a couple of good transfers on defense. What about Clinton?

I will be very surprised if Hubbard plays much it all. Cant get your main guy hurt in a meaningless scrimmage. But if he plays, I dont think he is going to tuck it and run

They spanked Brandon when they had their starting QB. Idk if West Jones was better later in the year but early on they probably were.

WJ was without 6 starters, and 13 overall, with covid when they played MC last year.  4 of the missing starters were defensive players.    WJ did not play a single game last year at full strength.  They were missing at least 3 expected to be starters pre-season, every game.  But at a point a pre-season backup-to-be ends up becoming a starter after how many games? 1? 3?

I was told WJ had 34 different kids get a start last year.  By the end of the season they had quiet a number of 9th and 10th. graders playing regularly.  On paper this year they may return 10 starters.  But it may as well be 19.  They did lose their best player, wr/db Mathew Nixon, for the year with torn acl in summer camp.

Wouldn’t surprise me if WJ is just as good as anyone in 5a this year. That program is in a groove.

They should be a threat for 3-4 more years.  Junior high teams loaded last year.  8th grade o-line had 4 kids 6 foot 260+.  One was a laurel transplant that I know laurel coaches are trying to get him to come back. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a number of 9th graders on the varsity sidelines after junior high season ends.

It’s a real shame Oak Grove and WJ haven’t been able to lock each other in for a home and home. Seems like that’s the only I guess major 5a school in the area left that we haven’t played. Maybe they’ll make that happen next year.

Clinton definitely a sleeper majority of our team were juniors last season but we have pretty much everyone returning at the vital positions with #72 one of the best tackles in the state. A lot of talent on this team for sure that were really good last season with our qb being back and healthy as well for sure gonna be interesting.

Dont let the state department hear about this. MHSAA would want to take 70% of their gate

It did go back and forth into the second or third OT. O.S. was glad that Clinton didn’t run the ball up the middle on that last play. Both teams might be better with the Hounds adding some beef on defense to help with the line problems from last year. As much as I hate to say this, but even losing the first game might make them better, learning not to get too big headed. This competition gets O.S. ready for the playoffs later.

Well hopefully it’s next year because it won’t be this year unless they have a miracle
