White I would agree with. Maddox is very good, but the other top QB resides in Starkville in Trey Petty. Regardless that was a fun game to watch. MRA has nothing to be ashamed of and OG did what they needed to at the end to get the W

MRA looking good so far. Oak Grove defense is going to have to wake up in the 2nd half. I said yesterday that John White was good but he’s exceeding my expectations against a defense that’s supposed to have a lot of D1 talent and a few SEC guys

I’m not a MRA guy but have pretty good insight on them from coaches/friends.

Been away for a little bit but OG should handle them. They’ll keep it close for a while and I will also add in you probably won’t see a better coached team. They have essentially become Prep over the last 6-7 years. The QB is legit and is going to pass Dylan Favre this year to set the all time state record in passing yards. I don’t know how or why but it used to be MRA would get kids from MC and NWR that couldn’t start at the big schools but now they’re taking starters. At least 3 from MC and 2 from NWR that I know of. Makes no sense

Honestly sounds like an OL issue as much as a RB issue. College teams will run shotgun from the one yard line to hand it off and have more success than going under center.

I’m not for running up the score, BUT what it seems like is he had 6 tds between defense and special teams. You can’t tell your kids who work their tail off to not score when given that kind of opportunity nor can you tell your young kids who are working day in and day out, getting beat up in practice by the starters, and trying to wait their turn. You can’t tell those kids not to have the same mindset. I have issues with having your starters out their slinging it around running it up but if a jv squad of 10th graders is scoring then it’s on the other team and coaches.

As far as Irving is concerned the only issue I would see with college football coaches contacting him is the possibility of going to the MLB draft right out of high school. Yeah he’s committed to Ole Miss in baseball but that means nothing when the big money comes calling at 18 years old. I think they got the 2 qbs right for the MS/AL game. The 4 selected for the Bernard Black Allstate game will make for a great game as well

Coaches will find players anywhere nowadays. With the internet and film of every single game it is hard for a kid to go unnoticed these days. Even more so when colleges have these analyst and off field recruiting coaches part of the payroll whose job is to find the best regardless. 15 years ago I would’ve disagreed but now regardless of the size a player will be found whether it be a 2A county school for colleges or MS Valley for the NFL

Tupelo has been very impressive so far, but looking at their opponents so far it’s about right. I’ll be honest I didn’t know Oxford would be so bad and Grenada would actually be solid. We’ll let it play out this week and have a fun time next week when MC and Tupelo get together. Both have tough games coming up this week

Or transferring to a better team to utilize him. Meridian is done. They don’t have the sidelines of 75+ guys anymore. I don’t think colleges would see him sitting out a year as a positive thing but I know there are some major players that’d be more than happy to have him if you know who to talk to…

No it’s not. Many coaches are up with the times and some are running the wing T. I shouldn’t have necessarily put it that way because the coaches job is to win and many can do that with simplistic offenses. It was more aimed at having our high school kids ready to play on the collegiate level. And there are very few studs from our state that go right into college and ball out. Some OL, DL, but our skill positions seriously lack in readiness. Don’t care if it’s Ole Miss, State, USM, JSU, or Alcorn. Our guys do not come in as prepared as other states

Ridgeland is a physical team themselves. I’m confused about a team not being physical because they have a good qb and 2 great WR’s? Considering they’ve got a top 3 athlete in the state they could literally put him at RB and watch the show if they wanted to but why waste the best WR in the state and probably the best WR for 2025 doing that when they can light you up through the air? Which a lot of Mississippi teams struggle to defend because of the behind the time coaching

Also to add I agree with East Rankin not recruiting but Park Place even while a young, smaller school has had their feelers out to NWR, Brandon, and Pearl since they started playing football

Tri County does a lot of recruiting but it just doesn’t show up in the “color” of the players. I will tell you first hand that myself and three others were recruited to Tri County, Canton Academy, and MRA in 2006 after our freshman year playing at Rosa Scott (MC 9th grade school.) All in the spring right before spring practice was to start for MC in order to get us to visit and see what they called “beautiful campuses and facilities.” Those facilities were essentially what a JUCO would look like compared to a SEC program comparing those to Madison Central but still funny at the time. One went to TCA and another went to CA. Myself and another continued onto MC and had a much better hs career than the two that didn’t go. The funniest part was all 3 mentioned were offering scholarship assistance. I will say my dad and I did go to all 3 to see what it was about, but the second they started talking about scholarship assistance rubbed my dad the wrong way. Pretty much who do you think we are and mentioned he could’ve paid for 5 players if he had wanted to because he was so mad. Long story but ran into the TCA head coach at a golf tournament in Madison two years later and he asked how everything was. I was respectful and told him going great but here came my father right behind me again and asked the guy has he not read the paper because he had lost 5 games already and MC was ranked in the top 3 in the state. Funny looking back but man my dad could be a d**k to those guys but they were the ones that initiated everything in a disrespectful manner.

Meridian is still having a huge problem with players and depth. A 6A school has no business only having 49 players on the team. It’s really a shame for a program like that. You can literally go to any other 6A school and not find AT LEAST 75+ players on the sideline with a lot of the metro Jackson (MC, NWR, Brandon, Clinton, etc. and Metro Memphis Southaven, Hernando, DC, etc. Tupelo and some coast teams as well with over 100+ players. Just looking through some of the teams the only other 6A team with less than 75 was SP with 71 and the a couple of JPS schools. As bad as it is to say these low numbers are also the worst schools academically as well and people are moving their kids to much better areas and schools.
