Meridian @ Oak Grove

In the recent years, this game has been dominated by OG though Meridian has been competitive the last three games. But wins are what count. After a disastrous first game, Meridian has played relatively well the last five games with the only loss being a competitive game at Starkville.
I have not kept up with OG this year so I do not know how they are playing. The game is at OG and until we can actually beat the Warriors, you have to give them the edge.
Our defense has played well for the most part and surprisingly the offense has jelled a bit. Again the competition has not been that strong but our improved play has been encouraging.
Let’s Go Cats!!!

This isn’t the most well coached version of OG and we are young in some spots. But we (should) handle Meridian with relative ease. Ya never know though. I woulda been very spooked about this game if Marcus was still roaming the sidelines

Is it coaching or youth? I know a lot of players off of the state championship team last year are playing college ball right now.

I don’t think he was saying that was the reason Meridian lost but that was the reason you had 100+ yards in penalties.

The penalties we got and get every game are primarily pass interference, offsides, and illegal procedure. The interference always happens on 3rd down and the other 2 about once a series usually at a the worst times.  That’s was my point. I wish I could blame it on youth but mostly I can’t.

What do you blame it on then? My son played for OG last year and for some unforeseen circumstances we had to move and he currently plays for meridian. I watched that team last year that went and won it all and just about everyone of those kids are playing college ball now. The kids that are out there now super young i really only recognize a few of them.

It’s the coaches fault. Just ask dub

I have watched OG 2 times this year and several times last year. You can clearly tell there is talent but they haven’t gotten the experience together yet. The team that won it all last year was written off as juniors and look at what happened when they actually had time to grow up. And like was stated earlier “ most of those guys are in college now”. One of which is a pre season freshman all American db at LSU. You don’t just recreate that in one year after 12+ kids go to college. Takes time

Coaches do shoulder a lot of the blame but not all of it. The players got to get their heads on straight and quit doing stupid things in the game. Some is youth but some talented older guys have to play up to their expectations.

Having MAC at LB could be the leader we needed on D. He is a beast and hopefully other players around him will play up!

I can go along with that. And coaches do shoulder some blame. But as a retired coach it drives me crazy when some fans like to run the guys down the road who spend the hours some coaches spend with their teams. Especially when they are proven winners and have multiple state championships amongst them. I promise you they are attempting to correct mistakes. If they aren’t then yeah I get it

This guy really has his panties in a wad because I said it’s not the most well coached VERSION of OG. I stand by what I said and I’m not slamming the staff at all. Yes they are young, and the reason I pointed at coaching is because they expected these young guys (especially defensively) to go out there and do the exact same things last years senior heavy squad did and from a personal standpoint they simply can’t. To that point I also commented on the adjustments they made Week 5 which have had positive results.
