Washed_Up_Athlete
I wrote on this board a few weeks ago that Jackson Prep would beat West Jones. I didn't know they would absolutely dismantle West Jones to the point that there was a running clock for the entire second half. Prep had nearly 300 yards of offense at halftime. Without the running clock and pulling starters in the fourth quarter, Prep likely would have put up 500-600 total offense. To date, the defending MHSAA 7A champ has lost to MRA, the defending 6A champ has lost to Prep, and many believe Hartfield is the best MAIS school in the state. Whether that is true will be proven on the field soon enough. But it should now be clear that the top 3 MAIS teams can play with anyone in this state. Chunky6617
Yes they can. And they also can recruit. With that said, west jones also recruits. Just not anywhere near the level the private schools do. Private schools are free to recruit. Public schools have to do it secretly. Have a look at Prep's 2024 & 2023 roster here: https://jacksonprepsports.net/sports/football/roster/2024 and please tell me who they recruited. pancho
I'd say the best way would be to look at actual home addresses to see. Are any of the boosters and fans providing housing assistance to the families who actually do relocate?
Rebel Bert
If you live in driving distance you can attend MAIS schools.
Rebel Bert
Most MAIS kids come from well to do, upscale neighborhoods, well educated families such as doctors, lawyers, business people, etc.
s1nglewing
They also offer tuition assistance for those in need, however (from Prep's website): " Jackson Prep believes that qualified students who desire a Prep education should not be denied that opportunity because of economic hardship. Therefore, Prep has established the Flex Tuition Program to help families in need. Flex Tuition is awarded strictly on the basis of need. Jackson Prep does not award any athletic or academic merit scholarships."

Not a single player on Prep’s roster was recruited to play football. Hartfield, however, that’s another story.

Washed_Up_Athlete
Prep has 36 seniors. Every starter on both sides of the ball is a senior. Prep has the best quarterback in the MAIS, and one of the best in the state overall. Prep has 3 D1 football commits, including a player who was invited to play in the Blue-Grey All American game. Prep’s head coach is in the Alabama sports hall of fame. Prep is a very good team.

But if you knocked on a couple of JA and Hartfield coaches’ doors at night, you’d find a couple of players living there.

Rebel Bert
I think i can get into Hartfield easily. The school is named after an administrator whose mother is a native of White Oak in NW Smith County.
David44
I did not expect West Jones to win but was hoping to be more competitive than that. I saw Prep and the QB at Soso last year. They were very good then, and it took an all time defense to beat them. As for Terry, we shall see. West has been holding the starting QB Lindsey out. At some point he will play. At some point he will play. I too did not think we would win but thought it would be a 28-17 ish type game. But in retrospect should have seen it coming. South Jones defense was able to expose our secondary. Poplarville tried and almost succeeded. What Poplarville did succeed at was showing how to shut down our totally 1 dimensional offense. The backup qb is no where near a big running threat and even worse as a passer. I think he completed 3 passes in 3 and almost a half games. He hates playing qb and was forced into it. We also are a bit banged up on one side of the o line which means 80% we are going to one side. There’s also some behind the scenes things going on. Had a wr walk off the team after poplarville game. Some other things I’m not getting into. As far as the starting qb Lindsey, injury ucl of throwing arm. Supposed to be 2-4 weeks to heal up. Last week was the 4th. They likely try to work him in vs terry. But there is word that if it gives him trouble or is re-injured he will need surgery.
