Problems at Magee and Mt Olive have resulted in the movement into Mize School Zone over last 12 years or so. The owners of GP no longer bring in athletes and give parents jobs. I am not sure that the coaches are interested in such recruitment. In 2010 the largest population in the county had shifted along and west of hwy 35. In 2020 the population has shifted to the SW (Mize) part of the county more specifically in the triangle between 35, 28, and 37 hwys. Majority of those kids attend Raleigh and Mize. Chunky6617
Taylorsville could be in some trouble. Teachers are leaving like crazy. Discipline issues with the junior high from what I have been told. Just not a good scenario for them. To be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if they closed the high school down within the next 10 years and sent those students to Mize and Raleigh. Raleigh is getting smaller student wise, but I don’t think their academics are struggling. Mize is most definitely the best school academically, and is actually one of the best schools in the entire state. A lot of people trying to get their kids in our district. A lot of people trying to get their kids in our district. $500 student vouchers for out of district students coupled with discipline problems at Magee and Mt Olive have helped Mize. Raleigh has its own discipline problems is one reason they will be dropping to 2A in 2023-24. They should return to 3A in 2025-26 if 2021 numbers are still well over 300. Students have left Raleigh for Simpson and Sylva Bay as well. Majority of Smith County north of 18, east of 13 and 541 the land is within the Bienville National Forest which leaves that area with small group homes within the area. Also a large area along area along hwy 13 south of Morton thru Polkville, east of Puckett down hwy 541 thru Martinville to near Magee with poor phone and internet service. If the numbers don't grow they are headed for 1 consolidated school located in Raleigh. Whether that will be 9-12 or 10-12 is to be seen. Something will gave be done to Raleigh 7-8 grades to accommodate Mize and Taylorsville students. Of course the school zone lines can be altered to offset the Raleigh decrease or perhaps a new High School along 28 to accommodate Mize and Taylorsville students. There are currently no plans for any changes to occur. The lack of jobs especially in Raleigh has hurt. They should have built a school at Burns years ago. Nor everyone really cares about going to Raleigh.
Chunky6617
Consolidation won’t happen in smith county anytime soon. Too many parents and school board members against it. Taylorsville may become a K-8. Then you split 9-12 students between Raleigh and Mize. Northern Tville students go to Raleigh, southern Tville go to Mize.

We actually don’t want them. We don’t want to consolidate in any way. Not everything evolves around sports. You should know that because Enterprise is a traditional bottom dweller and you have experienced their suckfest for most of your life. They got them a good coach a few years ago, that you actually wanted fired, and he’s finally got them to winning. But you will still never be on Mize’s level. Your 3 game win streak doesn’t erase history.

On Sept. 9 Enterprise will take Mize to the woodshed for the third straight year.
s1nglewing
While Taylorsville may have some problems at the moment, their football teams since 1990 have had exactly two losing seasons. I'd wager they get some pretty sound applications.

Chunky6617
There isn’t likely going to be a ton of interest. I say that because there wasn’t a ton of interest last year when it was open. They just had close to another 20 teachers leave. And it’s like that every year lately.

Enterprise has whipped Mize two years in a row and outscored Mize 101-22 the last three years. Enterprise has won 32 games in the last three years; Mize has won nine. Enterprise went 12-1 last year; how many prep football teams in the state of Mississippi can say that? Enterprise is a traditional power; its only since the 1990s because of changing demographics Enterprise has fallen off; but we have played for three state championships and won two of them. Its not like Mize has been playing for and competing for state titles recently. You are right; Enterprise will never be on Mize's current sorry level; think about that the next time Enterprise beats Mize's butt. Good talk from a guy whose team has been outscored by Enterprise 73-0 the last two years.
pancho
I know plenty superintendents who are not pro athletics at all. Mize appears to be one of those schools. I know I am ready for the season so Enterprise can cruise onto another trophy myself.

Most of the people on this page probably weren't even born yet. Mize on the other hand has won 4 chips. I believe one or two in this millennium so cut Mize some slack. They have fallen off lately but historically a good program.

Chunky6617
There was a rumor going strong this weekend that mize and Tville were about to consolidate. Those rumors aren’t true. Heck Tville just built a multi million dollar baseball stadium and hired a 3rd principle. There isn’t any consolidating happening anytime soon. If it does, we talking years down the road. They do need to do something fast though. They struggle academically, and lose tons of teachers every year
Rebel Bert
Enterprise won the region last year because Forest and Morton are down. Mize given time will be back up. Enterprise will go back down in a year or two. Smith County will never consolidate unless the state or federal forces it. They do need a better Superintendent than what ever they have now. Chunky6617
The superintendent may be the most despised man in smith county. We voted him out a few years ago, then when the state went to board appointed supervisors, the board brought him back in. If it were ever an elected position again, he would get voted back out. He’s not anti sports though. He has a ton of flaws, but he isn’t against the sports programs. If he could have his way though, he would force every kid to wear a mask for the rest of their lives and force them to be vaxxed just to come to class. He’s always been scared to death of covid.
