Bro ASU is going to be doing good to go 6-6. They are improved but not nearly as good as State made them look. He will not be the last RB to run for a ton yards on this State defense. This is one of the worst SEC front seven’s I have seen in quite some time.

Which is a shame because State has had solid DLs for years.  That whole defense looks like they came straight from the Sun Belt.  
 

ASU, up by only 7, went for it on 4th down from their 34 with 5 minutes left.

For them it worked out but that is a hefty gamble to take late in the game. Showed that their coach had no confidence in his defense. 
And of course they generally torched our defense all night long as well.

I think it was more that he was confident they could run for a yard.  They averaged 6.6 yards per carry for the game.

With Ole Miss it’s easy to pick bright spots in games like yesterday. Cupcake games like that creates a bunch of them. Unless you’re Notre Dame. I’m going to comment on an area that concerns me. That’s the secondary. Amos had another good game and doesn’t worry me. It’s the rest of the unit. Once we get into SEC play, they are going to be tested so much more and need to improve a lot by that time. 
 

Offensively, so far this team gives me the same vibes I got watching the Saints their Super Bowl year. Everytime Brees threw the ball I knew there was someone open out of camera that was about to catch it. There’s just so many weapons to have to account for.

Ole Miss will only stop themselves offensively.  They have a good O,  weapons at every skill position on the field, and a coach that knows how to exploit defenses.  
 

Defensively, they have more talent than they’ve had in a while, but they still haven’t been challenged yet.

I am not sure I’ll watch an OM game for several weeks. Lol. Obviously they’ve given their fans a ton to be excited about, I just don’t think they’ll play an interesting game until october.

Unfortunately then you missed Dart break the SEC record for most consecutive passes without an incompletion yesterday when he started 24/24. Was just two away from the NCAA record. You could tell he knew what the record was too because he wasn’t too happy on the incompletion or he just wanted to come out with a perfect percentage since that was going to be his last drive.

Without looking at the schedule, I can tell Week 3 must not have marquee matchups since College GameDay will be in Columbia for LSU/South Carolina. Surprised not going to Camp Randall for Bama/Wisconsin.

State has a big test next week with undefeated Toledo. Maybe the Bulldogs can get a win.

Toledo is no slouch. Hopefully we will have a good week of practice and play well. With all roster changes this year, there are going to be multiple games similar to the NI-ND game yesterday. Maybe we can avoid that fate Saturday. One thing is for certain, we will not suffer from being overconfident after last night.

Toledo has won a bunch of games under Candie. 9 wins in ‘22, 11 wins in ‘23. They did lose a good bit from last year’s team there’s but I get the sense there were a lot of people that watched State’s first half yesterday and started thinking “is Toledo gonna beat us too?”

 

The second half may have eased some concerns momentarily. But for the first 2.5 quarters, State looked like a 2-10 team. If those kind of showings continue to happen, it’s going to be a really terrible year.

If State loses to Toledo it certainly won’t be the first time I’ve seen them lose in person.  It’ll just mean that Lebby will have more work cut out for him than initially thought and he still has a lot of work to do regardless.

The UMASS-Toledo stats are misleading.

UMASS out gained TOL by over 100 yards. Only had one TO, dominated TOP 44 mins-16 mins, ran 88 plays to 45 plays but yet lost 38-23. 
Really weird to do that and lose by 15 points. 
They did have almost 100 yards in penalties though.
