Was it Hall or Justice? Can’t remember.

It was back in when MRA had just hired Forrest Williams. Bo Bounds had been harping on how so many quarterbacks were going to end up at MRA, and Bawby decided to call in and ask "Who said Williams was a QB coach, and brought up the former MRA QB who transferred to Pearl" then Bo responded with the notion that Williams always said that whoever played QB for him would throw for like 2700+ yards, and Hall says "that'll be easy in the bump and giggle league"

Lol naw

You realize MRA would be a 3A if they were public school? Did you see the score between them and Raleigh? Leake and Union? Heritage against East Union and South Pontotoc? Copiah and Pelahatchi?

idk if the MHSAA won a game against MAIS this past season.

obviously most of the schools couldn’t hold up week in and week out vs 5 and 6A but you put them against schools close to the same size and the MAIS holds up.

I don't think you can consider them to be on a level playing field with schools the same size when they can go and pick off good athletes from poor schools and put them on scholarship. Less total kids isn't necessarily a disadvantage especially when you making an all star team.

I wouldn't really consider that recruiting personally. I mean the kid has to live in that district technically and isn't being given anything (scholarship) at least as far as we know. Now if a kid just up and transfers from a school like say Poplarville to a school like Petal, that I would consider to be recruiting. But the privates aren't constrained to residency rules.

They let the good players come play with Brad and Chad unless they have dreadlocks or twists. Can't be having that at MRA.

Recruiting happens on both sides. Hartfield’s best OL was just recruited to Northwest Rankin.

I don't have a problem with recruiting per se, as in "the act of people persuading a student to come to a school", or "a school marketing itself to garner more transfers." Without the "marketing and recruiting students" angle, even public schools are not going to thrive. You have to sell your school or your program so students want to come to your school; that's a given. My issue is when a student takes financial consideration that is based on the value the kid can do to the athletic program. Like a booster club paying players to come to the school, or a kid getting a full ride from the school-operated tuition assistance program cause the kid can ball, that is wrong..

Didn't St. Andrew's leave the MHSAA and now play as an independent, at least in football?

What a foolish take. Sure every private school recruits as well as public schools. If a parent can better the kid’s education at MRA other than any JPS school then they should do so. Same goes for Prep and JA. It means everything to a lot of families that have their kids “recruited” and given a better opportunity for education. Go ahead and throw athletics in as well because MRA, Prep, JA would honestly boat race a JPS school. Just facts and I’m a Madison Central guy.

MRA would win 3A or 4A easily. Same goes with JA or Prep. Private schools are a different market that supposedly sell a better/alternative experience to public schools. There are still private schools in the MHSAA and they dominate their division in most sports. It’s not that hard to grasp. They won’t have the depth to go against Oak Grove/Madison Central but they have the talent to match with anyone. That includes Picayune and all the JPS schools. 😂

I think the only teams that MRA has had trouble with in the MHSAA were Taylorsville and St. Martin; they've usually done great with the others. Also, fact is that many private schools are able to devote more financial resources to the nature of the program. Like nice jerseys, able to staff good coaches, turf fields, the works.

There are 12 states that have more than one governing body for high school sports and activities. Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.

When discussing multiple-association states, Iowa is perhaps the most unique in that it splits associations by 1 for boy sports and 1 for girls sports. The other states have separate Public and Private leagues with some states having multiple private leagues.

Their are roughly about 245 schools in the MHSAA. A few of those are private schools competing in the association. The membership of the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools includes 23 of its 122 member schools from Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee. Recently the MHSAA decided to go to 7 classifications currently there are 6 classifications in the MAIS.

There was a lot of talk in another post about that move watering down the championships in MHSAA. There are currently 6 schools in the MAIS 6A classification, 17 in 5A and no classifications with more than 18 teams in a classification. MRA won 1 playoff game to compete for the State Championship. Yes MRA won a state championship but did they really? It only took 2 games to hoist a trophy and both of those teams you beat in the regular season. Didn't they lose to GCS which is pretty much considered and All Star Team competing in the MAIS with many of their scheduled opponents forfeiting so they did not have to play them.

Many of the small schools in the MAIS would close their doors if the association ever closed and they had to join the MHSAA and compete in athletics. That is the simple reason why the MAIS has 6 classifications. Are there MAIS schools that can beat MHSAA schools? Yes. Are there MAIS schools that could compete with MHSAA schools week in and week out? Yes. Could the majority of MAIS schools compete with MHSAA schools week in and week out? No.

All true. The 6A MAIS schools (Prep, JA, MRA, Hartfield, PCS & Parklane) would do well in the MHSAA. A few 4A and 5A schools would also do well (Tri-County 4A; Magnolia Heights, Heritage, 5A; there may be others that don't immediately come to mind). Many smaller MAIS schools would not compete.

The largest MAIS schools would likely slot as 3A and 4A schools.
