maroontide06
A good bit of the schools down here on the coast have went to that year round thing and it drags the school year out. That's when you get school starting in July, but it's crazy though. I don't understand why anybody would want to cut their summer break shorter than what it already is. Around here as soon as the calendar hits August 1st, guess what? The tardy bell starts ringing. It just seems like they keep pushing the start date earlier and earlier every year, and the school year doesn't get any shorter on the tail end either. Nuts. I am fixing to reveal my age, but when I was in school we started the Tuesday after Labor Day. First football game was the upcoming Friday night. Only the top 2 teams in the district made the playoffs. Two rounds of playoffs and the title game at Mississippi College.

I wish they would go back to starting school after Labor Day. That way kids and teachers literally get the whole summer off. They'll put these unnecessary breaks in there like Mardi Gras along with others and teachers and students are wore slam out long before May hits because they drag the thing out. When I first started school we didn't get Mardi Gras, then we started getting 2 or 3 days, and then we ended up getting a whole week, plus another whole week for Spring Break by the time I was in High School. You literally had two Spring Breaks and that's when they pushed the start date up so they could fit the dang breaks in there. They want this year round school thing now and it's flat horrible. Chunky6617
Schools that start early in July still get the same amount of days off. They just spread them out throughout the year. So students and teachers get more time out during the school year.

s1nglewing
In my opinion it's absolutely ridiculous to start school in July or early August. School was much better being "school" when school began in September. I really don't understand the reasoning behind the shortening of the summer break. It's kind of like "we want you under our thumbs all of the time"... conspiracy theories notwithstanding.
Blackwildcat
that's because of these modified school calendars and stuff! I bet that is tough!

It is and I get to be a first hand witness to it. You can't shorten the amount of days in the school year, but you can shorten the timeframe and that is what keeps getting longer. Insideradvantage
Nowadays unless you reach the semifinals or the championship you may not even play a single cool weather game. It’s ridiculous.

But given a choice between watching a game with temps in the 70s or 40s, ill take the 70s.
