They should have consolidated with collins 2 years ago. It’s gonna happen soon anyway. I was told they will have 16 players out for high school football next season

My granddaughter just moved back in march to Taylorsville from Richton after going to Richton in the ninth grade,she's now a Jr and I ask her how many kids have left Taylorsville, she said she knew of only a couple in the sophomore thru senior class had left that went to West Jones but they lived in Summerland on the county line and came to Taylorsville since their mother was and aid there!  May be that there's some left in the lower classes but not sure!

generally when you see schools start dropping numbers it starts in the lower grades and works its way up through the years.

need to recheck your numbers on mde for 23-24 school year.  you have some numbers that are off.  sebastopol will have 159 in grades 9-11 next year, which is 8-10 this report year in 23-24

It probably is more in the elementary than anywhere else. Although I did hear two football players were leaving for I think oak grove. Two good players actually.

No Taylorsville will make it 42 schools when it should be 40. Handbook states if 2 or more schools are tied at the bottom all 2 or 3 move up. There nothing about 2 or more tied at the top leaving 39 in a class. Hamilton will only move up if more students are turned in than Smithville, VJ, and Taylorsville. Hamilton is then number 40 and all 3 stay 1A.

A few years ago the school board voted it down after Mt Olive folks fought it off.

Recheck;

8th    54

9th    41

10th 54

Total 149

They may have added 10 since October and if so that will be 2A

and remember though that is excluding the classes of special education students.  so that is where the other 10 come from

Non of the schools posted SPED students. If they had you would not know the exact number to add.

According to national center for education website Taylorsville has 165 students in 8th 9th and 10th grade!

Better hope Taylorsville moves up to 2A. I remember the last time CC dropped down to 1A and everyone thought they would dominate. Did not happen.CC is 2-10 in State championships. Won 2 against Bay Springs in 89 and 16 as a 2A. None in 1A. 03 against Taylorsville and got killed in all of them.

There will always be talent in Taylorsville, as long as there's Keys,Magill, Agee ,Pittman,Ducksworth,Hawkins, ect...the genes are still there! They may be down a little but they'll be back! They won 3 of four state championships, '17 '19 '20! In '21 they were put out in the third round be west Lowndes '22 and '23 they were in the south state championships so I wouldn't say they don't have the same talent!

Some of these schools, many of them near where I grew up, are hanging on by a thread and I have to believe at some point at least a couple will have to consolidate, even if due to the poor facilites and lack of a tax base to build new ones.

Numbers are lower now that they are only counting 9-11th grades every 2 years. These nymumbers do not include the  senior class anymore.

McEvans is now again Shaw High as of the beginning 2023-2024 school year. The name change to start off a few years back had nothing to do with a merger. It was all a district’s decision to downside on number of schools in the district from 6 schools to 3 (closing of 3 (Ray Brooks, West Bolivar’s original high school building, and Shaw High School’s building (which were both already deemed unsafe) and to eliminate the need for those 3 extra separate administrative positions in attempt to save district money). They have since then realize that Shaw needs the separation in the elementary and middle/high school. Since Shaw operated out of one building originally built during segregated times for pre-integration black students, and the district decision at that time for Shaw to be one k-12 school with one administration instead of 2, the town’s citizen and the family of the black individual who built the school heavily voiced their opinion and wanted McEvans name and mascot over Shaw as the school name.

They have talent in Taylorsville the youth league did well as well. 9 and 10 went to second round lost out to Columbia the 7 and 8 lost out to Hattiesburg. The 11 and 12 year old won 4 out of 8 games. They have linemen coming kids are big and have skill guys.
