I am only convinced that 3 are against consolidation. 2 of those are against the Superintendent completely. 1 is definitely a puppet and 1 wish washy. The other represents Taylorsville and can go along with the Superintendent and could be the deciding vote on a 3-2. The Puppet us a no discussion on consolidation but I know better if the Supe wants it. And I know this much:

1 I am not 100% sold you can put 700 students at Raleigh by consolidating all 3 9-12th grades. 10-12th around 500 students I am comfortable with. It's based solely on 2023 numbers. Send all Taylorsville students to Mize and you have what becomes a large 3A or bottom 4A school replacing Magee or Mendenhall after they consolidate. If not Mendenhall or Lawrence County replaces Wingfield in 4A Region 6. In 3A you replace Magee or Noxubee County goes north. The numbers say Enterprise drops to 2A and Raleigh/Scott Central/Pisgah goes 3A anyways. The October numbers will tell the tell this fall. The board better get it right and get Taylorsville right because students are leaving for some reason.

All 5 board members say they are against consolidation. But 2 of them can be bought or bribed off of their stance, and will do whatever the super wants. 3 of the board members are vehemently against consolidation and if they ever flipped their stance they would have to leave the country to avoid the wrath of their voters. The super is not a friend of Mize, but he knows Mize is the best school in the county. If he had his way he would just like

to consolidate Tville and Mize, and all 9-12 students from those schools would all go to school at Tville because its facilities are bigger than Mize. Mize would then just be an elementary and middle school only. Raleigh would be unaffected. That’s the biggest fear people from both mize and Tville have. I don’t want any schools to consolidate, and it’s not likely that they ever do. But if they were going to do it against the people’s wishes, then I would recommend that Tville become an elementary and middle school only, then when those students are in 9th grade send the ones who live in north Tville to Raleigh, and south Tville to Mize. The biggest thing is to make sure you get Tville back headed in the right direction and that would solve everything. Tville has its problems, but its

really not a bad school. Adding another principle has helped them.

We all know the one in Mize is Hillman puppet and he got half Taylorsville.  One in Raleigh might well be too.  Taylorsville only person would shut down Taylorsville today if they would build a school back in Cherry Grove.  He don't care bout nobody but that area.  Taylorsville got no representation on that board we had three football coach since we won state and two left cause support ain't there from the board and now Hillman got his people as principal too.  He bringing Collins and Bay Spring people in here.  Ain't no Taylorsville people left after this year. Mize got more Taylorsville people than Taylorsville.  They all leaving when school over and they gone consolidate first chance they get.  Go look at Mize and Stringer and WJ how many Taylorsville people they got.

The puppet on the board is not from Mize. He’s from Raleigh. The way the beats are drawn up, Mize is the odd man out when it comes to who has a voice. Mize is

split in 3 different ways, and has very few voters that live in each beat. We do have 2

board members that are Mize friendly, but that’s the first time in a long time. Raleigh has the most representation, and they always have. Tville has usually always had the next most representation, and Mize has always had the least.

People don’t realize how much Mize gets shorted when it comes to athletic funds. As far as athletics go, all the dang money from the county goes to Raleigh and Tville. Almost everything mize does for their athletic teams they do through their booster clubs and fundraising. The county don’t give us Jack-squat. Things that the county should be fixing, like routine maintenance issues, our booster clubs are having to take care of. Raleigh is about to get an upgrade to their football facilities, and that’s fine because it was needed. I’m glad they are able to do that. Tville got a new million dollar baseball stadium that has poor lighting and has all the fans from both sides having to sit together. That wasn’t a great idea. Mize probably has the best facilities of all 3 schools and we had to find the majority of it by ourselves through booster clubs.

As for this job opening, I heard Tville is going to try to get one of their former players to take the job.

There used to be an OG on this board from way back in the day called "Tartartodeath" or something like that.  I reckon things kind of faded when it made the switch from independent to the Scout & 247 networks, then back to independent.  I'm sure there's some Taylorsville folks with some insights, but they just don't post on here anymore.

I remember a poster called etk99 and another poster called 2ATitleTown. That was almost 20 years ago. You would be surprised at how many of those people are no longer Tartars. A lot of those people have left and sent their kids to school at west jones, Sylva Bay, or some even to Mize. There used to be alot of pride in Tville, but it’s a shell of what it once was. When we played them this year, their stands may not have even been half full. And this was a rivalry game between two really good teams. That game used to be standing room only

Well for one, smith county just doesn’t pay what other places can. But Tville just cannot hold on to a coach for too long for some reason. I had heard this was probably going to happen, and I think coach Seth is actually going to be a coordinator somewhere else. And probably for more money. I liked Seth, he was a good dude.

Seth is a good man

This will be the 6th coach in 10 seasons for the Tartars.  Whole place reeks of poor administrative leadership.  Also, to Chunky's point, Baseball & Softball did receive significant new facility upgrades during the time that both of the SUPT sons were the head coaches of those sports, but Football on the other hand is still in the same Field House that was built in the 1970s. Low pay, lack of quality assistants, & poor admin support make it not as attractive as it may seem.  Only bright side to a prospective coach is the talent.  Get your W/L record up and get out quick.

He is not from Raleigh either. He represents Polkville, White Oak, West Raleigh, Shady Grove(Mize Zone) voting precincts. Those precincts run from the railroad tracks west of Mize to the Scott County Line. Each school zone has at least 2 school board members. The beats are weirdly designed. Mize is actually represented by 3 board members. I can't see students and parents from Sumerland north and up 531 interested in driving to Mize. If they listen to the parents they get rid of the Superintendent and other admin  that is got Taylorsville in this shape. The young kids need understand you have to move back home after college because without you we don't have the tax base to increase teacher salaries.

The way the districts are drawn up, Mize has very little representation because the percentage of voters in those districts that are from Mize is very minimal. That’s why you rarely see people who actually live in Mize that get elected to the board, because all the voters are from the other school districts. You are talking about beat 4, and probably 85% of beat 4 voters live in the Raleigh school district. So that beat is more than likely going to always be somebody that lives in the Raleigh school district. And it’s the exact same in Beat 1 and beat 3. The majority of voters in beat 1 are in the Raleigh school district, and the majority beat 3 voters are in the Tville school district. Those 3 beats all split up the Mize school district, and Mize has very little say so in who gets elected to those beats because the heavy majority of voters are in Raleigh and Tville. They do not need any support from voters in Mize to get elected.

The beats are drawn in a way that favors Raleigh heavily, then Taylorsville, then Mize the least.

Beat 1 : Raleigh majority, little bit of tville and little bit of mize

Beat 2: Tville majority, little bit of Raleigh

Beat 3: Tville majority, little bit of Mize

Beat 4: Raleigh majority, little bit of mize

Beat 5: Raleigh majority

City of Mize requested the entire city be put in same Beat. Supervisors agreed to the plan. It should have been put in Beat 3. So now Mize is represented by 3 school board members including Beat 1.

Beat 5 is 100% Raleigh.

Beat 2 is majority black by law and is Raleigh/Taylorsville.

Beat 3 is probably majority Taylorsville and Beat 4 is 3 out of 4 precincts in Raleigh majority.

Majority of the county population is west of hwy 35 thus creating the odd ball beat design.

Mize and Taylorsville I don't  believe has enough classrooms for consolidation. Same goes for Raleigh in a 3 way consolidation. 10-12th maybe.

If you start discussing consolidation now the Mayor of Polkville wants an elementary school with Raleigh teachers traveling to Polkville to teach. That was a nono a few years ago. So I say it's a split vote that can go Hillman's way sorry as he is. Yall's puppet told me there has been no discussion but I know Hillman will spring it on the board and we will see. There needs to be a serious attempt at growing the Raleigh and Taylorsville school zone before the federal government steps in and cuts funding for 3 schools down to 2 if not 1. THEN IT'S TO LATE.

You are correct he does have multiple rings. I not sure Taylorsville would benifit from a coach that is retired. Coach profession needs new blood.

Kids these days do not care what you have done in the past or how many rings you have on each hand. Kids respond to youth, energy, and passion. I'm not saying an older coach can't be successful, but look at multiple programs that have suffered because of hiring a coach that has a good track record (looking at Wayne County)
