We know the timing of when games are played can be a major factor in who wins or loses. State plays Arkansas after Arkansas has played LSU, A&M, Ole Miss and Bama over 4 consecutive Saturdays. Bama has been really good at beating teams twice.. State plays Auburn after Auburn has played LSU and Ole Miss back to back. Those are going to be two very emotional games for Auburn. State plays KY after they have played Mizzou and TN back to back. Again those are going be two big games for KY., I say that with the full knowledge if State does not improve immensely defensively and offensively none of the above will matter. Offensively, we have got to be able to score in the first quarter. Against LSU, Scar and Bama we were down 17-0 and 14-0 (2) before we ever scratched. We know defensively we are weak but if we put some points on the board early it is possible that the defense will play better. Opportunity knocks for State. Not that I have much confidence until we win a game but we are probably catching the next three opponents at about the best time we could hope for. rebmus Posted October 13, 2023 Share Posted October 13, 2023 Off week for all three "major" MS teams this weekend, unless you count Southern Miss's Tuesday game as "this" week or "next" week. We're halfway through the season, we'll see how it finishes. Ole Miss is hoping for a NY6 bowl and will be disappointed with less. MSU is hoping for a bowl game and will be disappointed with less. Didn’t stay up to watch that one but wild that Colorado blew a 29-0 lead. And Stanford is not good at all. CU may not make a bowl game given their remaining schedule. Bulldogs4 Posted October 14, 2023 Share Posted October 14, 2023 Well Arkansas played tough against Alabama but came up short. I have seen that cut both ways. It could give Arkansas a ton of confidence and they will come out firing bullets next week. But on the other hand, an effort like today can take a lot out of team and even when the spirit is willing the fresh just may not respond. With Rogers out, I think we will be okay with Wright at QB but behind him we have basically nobody. So that is a deep concern. Will be interesting to see how the State-Arkansas game plays out. Dawg83 Posted October 15, 2023 Author Share Posted October 15, 2023 Tennessee beat A&M in an ugly game. We might be approaching the end for Jimbo. Florida rallied late to win at SC. That SC loss for State is not aging tremendously. Washington-Oregon was outstanding. Can’t say enough for how entertaining the PAC-12 has been. Ironic given that this is the swan song. I know they lost today but he has been outstanding out there. And yes that was one heck of a game that could have easily gone the other way. Did us all a favor there, SC hasn’t shown that they belong anywhere near the Top 10 to this point. Mizzou with a big road win at Kentucky. Mizzou is better than I expected, but UK might not be very good. If you’re a State fan looking for the most winnable SEC game, it might be UK at home in a few weeks. LSU smashed Auburn, and I don’t at all think Auburn is any good, yet I still think both Ole Miss and State could very well lose to them. Just something about playing at Jordan Hare. Just something about it being such a big game for Freeze and the fact that OM has struggled at Auburn historically has given me pause since the off-season. I tend to lean towards 9 but 8 is just as possible as 9 right now. Auburn is obviously struggling, but they're certainly not easy to beat at home. They gave #1 Georgia all they wanted 2 games ago.
