What’s going on in Wayne County?

 I have not been very happy with the play calling and performance on either side of the ball. I’m sure everyone feels that way. But we have been beaten by 2 7A schools and 2 6A schools. The real season starts Friday night. If we can make some adjustments we still have everything in front of us.

I’m not going to take offense at what you said chains because I think at the end of the day we both want the same thing but it’s obvious appeasement and waiting is not working.

I’m not letting letting up on this dude this time though. So I guess you got it right I’m going to be a problem. For him. It’s not right for Coach Hankins to bear the brunt of the parents and community while he runs and hides from the mess he made. GCwildcat knows too. The stuff he did on the way out at NEJ was purely vindictive and meant t cause damage. Whatever he’s said or gave you the impression of saying is surely what he thought you wanted to hear. There is a reason he’s never won nowhere he ever was and left whatever he had a hand in in shambles. It’s happening now.  If he wants to pick up trash and write students up for being tardy he should stick to that and stay out of whatever system a coach is going to run. This isn’t hear say I talked two coaches that applied last time. Both have a championship. One runs some kind of wing stated he pulled his name out of the hat after he talked to him .The other coached with Marcus and was never called.

I hope it does get turned around but I’m going to ask you this. Are you happy with having to battle it out for the playoffs with the likes of East Central ? Vancleave ? How about Stone County ?  Gautier, lol. Really ? Getting the hell pounded out of our kids every time they play someone decent.  The last two losses were to bad teams. The players are there to be better.

Get real man you know what you see

You are 10000% correct slick. There needs to be a change and it needs to start at the top. Our area needs Wayne County to be that top notch team instead of a very average/ below average team. I feel like Wayne County's talent level is down compared to the teams of the past, but I don't think it should be a laughing stock like it is right now. The board needs to step in and go find a good qualified (preferably younger) coach that can rebuild the program. I also know that kids these days don't care what you have done in the past or what your record you have as a coach. Kids these days want guys who will get on their level and grow with them not someone who just stands there and talks about how he won a state championship 10 years ago. It is simply time for a change.

I have to give the staff credit. Like everyone else they have seen the need to back up our opponents defense from the line with the pass. You could tell they have been working on it and it payed off big. We play for the region title next Friday night.

Slick WC showed a pulse last Friday at EC in the first region match up. They actually played really well they got a couple of players back that had been hurt one was the leading tackler from last season. They also had one of the worst officiating crews I’ve seen in a long time lol. This week’s game will be night and day from last weeks in getting prepared. Guatier will pass the ball 90% of the time where EC ran the ball all but about four plays. WC has to figure out a way to get a little pressure. This is a very big game especially for a WC team trying to establish an identity. WC was very balanced on offense the past two weeks so the Gators can’t just come in to stop the run like last season.

Only this . This experiment is over. In three years it’s been taken apart at the joints. Kids don’t even expect to win anymore. First little thing goes wrong their whole demeanor changes.

I hope the community knows where the real fault lies in all of this and dishes out measures accordingly.

One more thing, I don’t want to hear one more word about Wayne County tradition and what it means. You don’t know a dam thing about what it means. Letting second rate teams come into our stadium and skull drag our kids. ENOUGH.

Slick hit the nail on the head. This weird Alabama bush league wing-t experiment is done. Second rate programs are making a mockery of almost 2 decades of winning. Think Shula at Bama or Matt Luke at Ole Miss. That’s what we’re dealing with right now.

 

After the Thomasville transfers graduated last year, it became evident what this program is gonna be under Hankins. There are only two men I want to see replace Hankins next season and both would take it if called.

I honestly can't see how WC can afford to keep him much longer. I don't see that move being made during the season because of no administration changes will be made until after the school year.

I don't think he's going to keel over.  If you are referring to living as surviving, then yeah I don't think we'll see his funeral anytime soon.  Now if you are referring to surviving in terms of employment, well then he may survive there too.  It may just be somewhere in Alabama where he came from.

If Coach is gone after the season it will be if his own volition. Hathorne would be the one to initiate it and this is a successful football season to him. I’m not sure but I think he was on the fence about it last year because his son had just graduated and their are certain interests his family has up in Thomasville. Marcus was hanging around town the whole month of December and wanted to come back but took Meridian when  Hankins decided to stay. People were behind Marcus coming back and I think Hathorne begged Jack to come back because he was going to lose his handle on things if Boyles put on the whistle again across the street. Dude must have been shaking in his hush puppies at the thought of it.

I do know this much. Hankins will leave at some point in the near future. Hathorne CANNOT be allowed to be the sole decider on who the next coach will be. Why would a man who was a failure at coaching football be allowed to determine what philosophy the coach must adhere to ? Matter of fact take him completely out of the process. 
Ideally I wish Coach Hankins could stay involved in some way. He is first class in every way but it doesn’t translate onto the field on Fridays. If he could take Hathornes place somehow it would be a big win.  I think he was thrust into a situation he wasn’t totally prepared for and has now been hung out to dry.  Coaching football in South MS is dog eat dog. He’s definitely feeling the pressure.

It’s like this all is no big deal to the people in the Superintendents office. It may not be. In any event no one can say they haven’t been told this has been coming for years and I’m saying now there is only one way to start repairing things. It can be fixed quickly. 

Vilify me all you want but you can’t dispute about our hierarchy in this sport now. Under Stone, Gautier, George County , Pascagoula, West Jones. Where’s the bottom ? I could go on but let that sink in.

I can tell you as someone who has respected you guys program for the past 2+ decades, it is sad to see where it has fallen to this point. Since 2015, Wayne County has averaged about 6 wins a year. From 2000-2015 seasons, Wayne County had just THREE seasons where they did not win at LEAST 10 games. So there is definitely some correlation in coaching hires the success of the program. Hope you guys can right the ship Slick. I know it is tough to watch.

I’ve been a lot of miles following them boys over the years. Met a lot of people and made friends. This whole situation just seems unnecessary. I miss it.
