1.5 multiplier

According to one popular Facebook page the 1.5 multiplier will be enforced on the upcoming 2027-29 Reclassification period coming this fall for private schools playing in MHSAA.

Been around since the 80s. If  St Andrew's has 200 students for reclassification their official number is 300.

Hogwash. The only schools where a double multiplier is in effect is for those schools with only one gender - SSC, OLA, and Piney Woods. 

There has never been a 1.5 in Mississippi.

The multplier should be used for all the cruitin skools............such an unfair advantage

They are adding it for next reclass. MHSAA just announced it today.

I don't think this is a great decision and may wind up having some schools leave for the MAIS. When the association decided schools along the river couldn't let non-MS resident athletes participate several parochial schools left. This may cause a similar defection.

 

The Booneville fan base was very vocal on FB about Presbyterian Christian winning the 3A baseball championship over them. Neaves is from that area and probably heard a good bit of chatter about it from old friends.

 

These decisions to me generally seems short sighted and knee jerk reactions to a small number of coaches, principals, and parents.

Vott, if you took 1A Resurrection for example and put a 1.5x multiplier on them where would that put them?  The multiplier puts these small private schools that have been in the MHSAA a long time at a disadvantage.  Thankfully St. Al got out a while ago, but like @coastfootballfanmansaid, you might see them jump to MAIS because of this.  But who honestly asked for this?

It is amusing that, for years, the chatter was that MAIS teams would be unable to compete with MHSAA teams. Now that they've been successful, the chatter is that they're too good to compete with schools of the same size.
