Bulldogs4
Agreed. Wins are always good. For State we just needed to win. Period. Now can we build on this. I have been of the mindset if we can just win one game then the pressure drops precipitously and we can just play baseball again. We will see what happens. Dawg83
State dominates Game 2 to take the series. Stone was awesome. And Bevis trying his best to do a Wally Pipp to Stallman. Getting the sweep tomorrow would be really big. This SC team hasn’t shown me they can hit. State’s pen should be pretty fresh, if Foster can throw strikes consistently they’ll have a great chance. Bulldogs4
I know it is South Carolina but today’s win is the way we should win against a team like them. Really need a sweep tomorrow to offset the disaster of the last two weekends. At least a small part of it.
Dawg83
State is basically one swing away from having back to back shutouts. All of SC’s runs this weekend came on a three run homer on Friday.

Dawg83
The dream of three host sites in Mississippi lives on for at least one more weekend. Of the three teams, I feel like State probably needs the sweep most tomorrow. Maybe you can argue it’s USM. OM playing with house money in Game 3. David44
Great weekend thus far. Stone was dominant 12 K 6 innings. USM an OM starters covered 6 innings as well. USM still looking for the 3rd weekend guy and rumored to be starting Camden Clark tomorrow. He has been lights out closing this year. Certainly weakens the pen but 6 innings from the starter seems to be a winning formula. Edited April 19 by David44
Bulldogs4
State & USM desperately need sweeps today! Ole Miss is in good shape either way.
Bulldogs4
I have zero confidence in Davis. We should be behind right now. Very fortunate that we are only tied 3-3 in the ninth inning.
Dawg83
State pulls it out in extras to get the sweep. Much much needed. B4, I’m with you on Davis. I feel like this staff sees him as a lockdown closer type when the results don’t back that up. Also question going to him again when they had a full and fresh pen with only six outs to get after Foster gave them a GREAT start. Thankfully Webb was nails and they found a way to manufacture a run to win it. Edited April 19 by Dawg83
Bulldogs4
Why pitch him again after he threw 43 pitches Friday night? Webb was awesome. Davis has good stuff but he is inconsistent. He was very lucky that he didn’t give up a three run HR in the eighth. And that it was only a single as well. Glad for the win and a much needed sweep. Still have a big mountain to climb though. USM with a big win and Ole Miss lost but still won the series. So overall a good weekend for all three teams.
Dawg83
There are going to be eleventy billion people in Starkville and Oxford next weekend for State/LSU and OM/UGA (among other happenings). USM in Mobile to play South AL next weekend.
rebmus
State and Ole Miss (along with Auburn, Oklahoma, and Florida) tied for 4th in the SEC with a 10-8 conference record. Both teams are back in good position to host with a decent finish with a shot to be a top 8 with a strong finish. The schedule ahead for Ole Miss remains brutal, I haven't looked at MSU's but I suspect it's pretty dang brutal also.

State gets LSU at home which is a must win series and you can argue it’s must sweep given that it’s in Starkville and how bad LSU has been lately. Absolutely brutal after that: @ Texas, Auburn at home, then close the year @ A&M.
Bulldogs4
Baseball is very quirky. State-LSU is the biggest baseball rivalry in the SEC. So I fully expect to see LSU at its best this weekend. Forget the fact that they have been struggling. They will play hard and better against State. All that said, we have to got to rise up to the occasion and play better than them. Need two at the very least and as you said 83 a sweep is really the goal. Georgia @ Ole Miss has the makings of a good series. I know Georgia swept us but I think that weekend may be an outlier when we look back on the season. They are good but I like Ole Miss to win two of three. USM is at USA who is always good in baseball. If Southern can win 2 there that will be a good weekend.

David44
Big weekend for USM. Of the 4 SB teams left to play, South Alabama is the only 1 inside the top 100 RPI. 2 out of 3 is needed. A sweep would help immensely. With the re-vamped weekend starter rotation that gave them on average 6 innings each last weekend against a good hitting Texas State team, that is the formula for a sweep, although this will be on the road. I think MS takes their series against LSU. Ole Miss is playing well right now. I would put them just as good or even better than Florida, who took 2 of 3 at home against Georgia, so OM should too. Dawg83
I am terrified of this series for State. LSU baseball is like a horror movie villain to me. Just when you think they’re dead is exactly when they come back with a vengeance. I’m also not convinced State has its issues totally fixed yet. I’m still seeing some situational offense things that concern me, and a pitching staff that plays with fire an awful lot. Maybe I’m dead wrong here and I’ll be happy if I am…. I have LSU taking this series on the road and putting State in a really tough spot hosting-wise. USM takes 2 on the road. I have Georgia winning 2 in Oxford. It may be a home run derby all weekend though and that means it’s probably a toss up. I like OM’s pitching staff better but UGA has the better offense. Strength on strength there, so it will come down to how an up and down OM offense fares against up and down UGA pitching. I’m mostly leaning on UGA’s road track record this year with this pick, as they’ve already won series at A&M, State, and Arkansas. Dawg83
OM and UGA rained out tonight. I warned yall about State vs LSU…. There is written proof. lol.
Bulldogs4
And Davis wears out. I fault the Coaching staff here. After the first base hit he should have been pulled. He pitched great but he was out of gas. 35-40 pitches is the max for him.
Dawg83
State wins a really wacky game on a walk off homer in the 11th. Both teams did some really dumb stuff to try and lose that game. Both also made at least one elite defensive play to keep it alive. I thought State’s bullpen was the difference ultimately. Valincius had his worst start of the year and they made a bunch of defensive miscues early, but pen threw more than 7 innings of 1 run ball. Dawg83 Posted yesterday at 03:16 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 03:16 AM (edited) Wow. State comes back on LSU for the second night in a row. Jacob Parker and Jack Bauer lived up to the hype tonight. Big big couple of wins for State. Finding a way to sweep tomorrow would be massive. Edited yesterday at 05:33 PM by Dawg83
Bulldogs4 Posted yesterday at 11:33 AM Share Posted yesterday at 11:33 AM State does it again. Bauer with an excellent outing sans one pitch. And that dang Parker with a grand slam. I see shades of Clark/Palmeiro in that swing. A sweep today would be huge. But I know it is going to be another hard fought game. Ole Miss with a split sets up another big game today. And USM goes for the sweep today at USA. They have seemed to have righted ship recently and are playing good ball. Will be an excellent weekend if all three can finish today.
