MRA @ Oak Grove

Hoping for some insight mainly from the private school guys here. I don’t keep up with private school ball much at all but I have watched a little bit of MRA. The QB is a D1 talent and they look pretty disciplined. I think OGs overall team speed will overwhelm them though.

I don’t think OG played very well against Hattiesburg especially defensively. And they had a lot of pre snap miscues. But I do think they had to overcome the Hoover win hangover which is tough when you have to play a cross town rival. I’d like to see us shore up the run D these next couple of weeks. I’m not sure if our D line isn’t conditioned right now or isn’t healthy but I’d like to see the D1 trio of Maddox, Moore, and Owens play a full game together for once.

I saw their first game and then their game two weeks ago and the offense looks night and day different. Their skill guys were fairly inexperienced coming into the season due to losses from graduation but they’ve gotten better each week. Defensively though if they had a hard time stopping Pulaski they’re def gonna have a hard time stopping Oak Grove. I’d prob go with Oak Grove 41-20.

MRA's entire offense is predicated on 4-vertical routes. The line pass blocks or gives pass block looks on every play. The receivers run option routes virtually every play, so if you bail deep, they will break off a hitch or skinny post. The running game is a slashing cut-back type - inside and outside zone. In short, on the offensive side of the ball, MRA is disciplined and wants you to beat yourself with mistakes. I bet MRA moves the ball pretty well against Oak Grove.

They have a good defensive line and athletic inside linebackers. I'd bet Oak Grove will be surprised at their effectiveness in defending the run. The secondary is where MRA is vulnerable. They're young and not as good on the back end as they've been in the past. This is ultimately what caused them to lose to Pulaski. My guess is that is where Oak Grove will get them in the end.

I agree with s1inglewing. A 14-point win for Oak Grove is a fair guess - something like 35-21 or 42-28ish.

Wouldn’t surprise me if MRA moves the ball myself actually. I expected our defense to be much more consistent than they have been with all the talent they have. The DL I spoke about hasn’t played a bunch of snaps together and the entire LB group hasn’t tackled well the last 2 weeks. If they don’t clean that up it may turn into a shootout. I don’t think MRA will stop OG on offense much at all.

Our DL got dinged up against Hoover no doubt about it.  Maddox didn’t play much at all against HHS and Moore was in and out. Hopefully they will be close to full strength for this game. I am sure Causey is going to shore up all those penalties from last week that hindered any sort of consistency.

I am going with a better OG team this week and and a big win.

OG 45-17

Lol, you would think the top private school team vs arguably the top public school in the state would get more pub than some of those Enterprise topics. Kinda crazy what this forum has become.

Enterprise to this forum = Colorado to ESPN. Both are head scratchers when there are obviously several other more formidable teams/games to discuss.

If they lose this week it ought to settle down some.

Back to the OP, I won't be surprised if MRA makes a game of it.

That’s my issue… we used to actually debate the games that matter here. No offense to Enterprise but… they don’t go to the state championship games.

I have mixed feelings about this game. To me it all boils down to how does MRA come out. If they come out fired up with no jitters then I think this will be a game. If they come out with butterflies it could get out of hand quickly. If that makes sense lol

They will come out with jitters why not. We love the deep ball with all the weapons.  I expect us to hit a lot of them. I just don’t see it being close. This is not a MAIS team they are playing this Friday!

When this game was announced I immediately said Maddox would throw for 300+ and 4TD’s against MRA’s biggest weakness on their defense. I still feel that way.
