I believe the plans are to move Leake Couty Jr. High and High School to Leake Central and leave Leake County Elementary alone. Yes the plan was presented to MHSAA yesterday. As to whether they will play 4A in 2026 and then reclassify to 5A in 2027 or play independent. All of Leake County opponents will be looking for an opponent or have an open date in 2026. Rebel Bert
So Leake Central will be 5A and most likely play in Region 2. Thus either Provine or Vicksburg to Region 3. Then Sumrall drops to 4A.
Rebel Bert
How many 1A/2A schools do we need to lose due to consolidation in order to return to 6 classes? Its going look weird having 40 schools in 1A and 27 football schools as an example divided into 8 regions with 2 or 3 school regions especially in NE Mississippi.
pancho
Not sure how many it will take but one thing is for sure, it'll take the MHSAA a minimum 2 years to ponder and then adjust accordingly.

The increase in consolidations was one of the reasons I gave years ago for why we don't need 7 classes and perhaps not even 6. There will continue to be other closures and mergers. At the very least 1A football should go to 4 regions again.

Rebel Bert
With Leake County merging the high schools we will eventually have to change the makeup of division of classes. This drops us to 43 schools in 1A and 33 football schools. The new make up will be: 7A 24 Recommend is 16/20 6A Next 24 5A Next 24 4A 40 3A 40 2 non-football (New Site/OLA) 2A 40 1A 47/51 10 non-football Otherwise 1A will be left with 43 and only 33 football. Obviously we will loose the following in near time as Leflore County is also building a new school for 4A Greenwood, 3A Amanda Elzy, and 1A Leflore County. Then we drop to 42 and 32. Rumor is Attala County may consolidate and we drop to 41 and 31. Now we are down below 4 Regions x 8 schools.
pancho
Ethel, McAdams and Kosy would be all put together in Attala County?

I was thinking they have 2 different districts in Attala County. But if all 3 then all 3 that will be Attala County and Kosciusko City merging. That makes sence. Rebel Bert
I think i will wait till after tomorrow's pod cast to see what's in the works Then I will relook at all potential or rumored consolidations to reclassification 7 thru 1 or 4 regions in 1A, etc.
Rebel Bert
It will be interesting to see if we go back to 6 classes like Alabama but we don't have the private schools for 2 classes making 8 classes total with 5 days of championship games. Attala County would be wise to follow what Starkville did with Oktibbeha County Schools and merge them all into one high school. The county is poor and likely isn't able to have many resources when compared with the city. While no doubt both are probably fine with the situation, it would likely be best for the kids for a single district and high school. McAdams and Ethel have very different demographics so just merging them together would not likely go over well but could happen of course.
