CFB Week 6 Thread

A little lighter on games this week, including OM on their bye, but we’ll get into it all anyway.

State at A&M -14.5: I think there are two schools of thought on this game. The first is conventional wisdom which says State is beat the heck up playing on the road after a draining, emotional home loss, and that would tell you that A&M wins this game big. The other school of thought is…. This State team has been resilient as heck under Lebby and it seems to take a lot to rattle them. Even last year when they were awful, they stayed in some games longer than they had any right to. That plus the total unreliability of Texas A&M over the years suggests State could even have a chance to win. I think I lean toward A&M winning and covering, something like 35-17, but I think it will be close for 3 quarters before A&M pulls away late. I worry about the injuries on the State side, especially on the OL. I think they need more time to regroup and that bye after this game probably comes at a good time.

Texas -6.5 at Florida - I want to pick Florida to win this, I really do. I don’t trust Texas much right now either. But the UF offense is a disaster. It feels as if it’s a matter of when for Billy, not if. I think the longest he lasts will be the State game in a couple of weeks, if he lasts that long. Texas wins by 14 in a sloppy, ugly game.

Vandy at Bama -10.5 - Y’all, there is a realistic pathway for Vandy to be a playoff contender. It is not far fetched at all they could end up in the mix. The big question for this game is can history repeat itself? I (and many of you) would LOVE to see it, personally. But in Tuscaloosa, I don’t think the Dores can take this one. Give me Bama by 14.

Kentucky at Georgia -20.5 - I think Kentucky is the worse team in the league. Not terribly sold on Georgia so far but they should win this by 3 TD’s or more.

Miami -4.5 at Florida State - I’m taking the Noles at home here. Good team, just got beat on the road as happens in this era more often. But if Miami can win this one, I’m sold on them as a legit contender.

Man Ole Miss takes a bye and the weekly thread gets nothing.

Some good games this weekend that’ll kinda sort things out about who is who. Can’t wait to hear the “We Want Kiffin” chants from Florida fans that they claim they’ll be screaming. As far as Miami goes, I’ll be sold on them as a contender when they actually leave the state of Florida that only happens 3 times this year. Which Carson Beck shows up will be huge in this game.

IF the game was in Starkville, I MAY would pick MSU to win... pretty much a tossup IMO. At A&M, MSU keeps it close but A&M takes over late and wins by 10.

Texas/Florida- I wouldn't bet on this game with someone else's money. Which Arch and which DJ shows up? I'm picking Texas but really don't feel good about picking for or against either one.

If Bama's version of the FSU game shows up, Vandy. I THINK Bama is figuring things out after that first game- give me Bama.

Kentucky isn't good, UGA is. Kentucky may well go 0fer in the SEC this season. This game shouldn't be close.

Miami should win easily, this is a good test to see if they may well be a top 4 team when it's said and done. I'm SLOWLY buying in Miami may be a contender, but far from there yet with anyone outside of Ohio State.

Bonus NFL pick: Saints pick up their first win of the season over the Giants.

Not only are the A&M players and field going blackout for the State game but also the Yell Leader Cult. Must be a big game. State should’ve countered with their jerseys from last week but they’re not.

Oh my gosh it may somehow be worse than the all white suits. Lol.

State downgraded majorly in uniforms for this week. The Croom era W-W-M look has never worked for me.

It is kinda weird that A&M made this their big blackout game. Appreciate the respect though. If you ever want to scare off an Aggie fan just mention the name Nick Fitzgerald.

@Dawg83I def think the ball got fumbled on when to wear what. I know your fanbase has been dying to get the interlocking MSU back but last weeks jersey combo would’ve been perfect for this especially since could’ve been an Independence Bowl throwback against A&M. I understand that breaking it out for a home game is what the higher ups wanted to do though. Pulling for you guys tomorrow. It’s only a matter of time before the A&M hype goes to their 8-4 form.

Please don’t tell me we are wearing the god awful maroon pants. They are almost as bad as the black uniforms. Road uniforms need to be all white with possibly a maroon helmet.
Makes me not even want to watch the game.

Sigh…uggghhh.

State-A&M. I really want to take State here but while I think we will be competitive I just don’t think we will prevail. A&M 28, State 24.

Texas-Florida-ugly game of the week. TX leads 3-0 at the half. FL scores late but misses the XP to lead 6-3. TX kicks FG to tie it 6-6 at the end and then wins in OT 9-6.

Vandy-Bama. Every one thinks Bama is going to smoke Vandy in a revenge win. And that may happen.  Bama wins but not by much. 30-28.

Georgia by a bunch over KY.

Which Florida State will show up?

I think they eek out a win and blow up Miami’s NC hope.

A&M at -16.5? I haven’t watched A&M this year but that seems a little dramatic. Cant let last week lose u this game if you’re State. This is a big test for how resilient Lebby’s teams can be. I got A&M 34-28

Vandy-Bama is gonna be a shootout. I got Vandy rushing for 200+ but Ty Simpson and that WR core are just too much of a mismatch on the other side. Bama 42-35

Arch has gotten some tune-up games under his belt now but still doesn’t look great. Lagway hasn’t been up to par either but I think that’s a result of him barely practicing this year. I expect Lagway to get better as the year goes on. But Texas has a great team to compensate for their QB struggle. I got Texas 18-12

The line moved a couple of more points toward A&M with the news that Albert Reese is out and Isaac Smith is doubtful. Definitely big absences. State’s OL is a major major concern at the moment. One starting tackle from Week 1 already lost for the year and another out for an undetermined amount of time.

Don’t know if a team has ever needed this bye week worse than State does. I still think there are winnable games in the second half of the year and there is a path to bowl eligibility. But they’ve got to get healthier in certain spots, or else have replacement options start to gel more than they have. If Fluff’s injury is season ending, that would definitely hurt, but RB is the one position where State has some other solid options, if nothing else. Other positions I don’t feel as confident about. They need Albert Reese back ASAP. And Isaac Smith soon too.

Feel like the next three games for State are kinda the season definers. Florida, Texas, Arkansas. You can win each of those games, though I’m not expecting 3-0. Can you get to 2-1 and nail down your bowl place? If so, that’s awesome and I don’t think anyone could really complain about much at that point. Must win one of those to maintain the hope for bowl eligibility down the stretch. If you go 0-3 and are sitting at 4-5 with Georgia/Mizzou/OM to finish the year, that’s gonna feel a bit deflating barring a late season upset.

First time watching A&M closely this year. I think they are good, not great. May can contend for one of the last playoff spots, don’t see them as a championship team. Don’t love the QB and they commit way too many penalties, but the rest of that roster is very good.

Certainly agree that A&M is good but not great. Their D is good but they certainly took advantage of our makeshift OL. More undisciplined than us. Reed is okay but inconsistent.
Not that we would have won the game but that motion penalty at the half yard line really hurt. We needed to score a TD there. We had their D on their heels. That one play flipped the momentum with our offense and their defense.
Off week much needed. Definitely need to get several guys healthy and just reset everything.
Florida is a bit of crapshoot. They did beat TX but how good is TX? They are on the road against A&M this week. That will be an interesting game to watch. Don’t want to anyone to be injured but if they get banged up some it would not hurt my feelings any. That game may be similar to last night. Kind of an ugly physical game where the offenses each struggle some.

@Bulldogs4that late hit out of bounds that would’ve got y’all off the field was pretty costly as well.

Wasn’t that the same drive as the goal line stand? Don’t think A&M scored after that but maybe you can argue it was more snaps for the D and flipped field position, etc.

I am curious to see Florida vs A&M next week before State travels to Gainesville. Is Florida fixed or was yesterday more of a Texas issue? I know UF got a really talented freshman WR back yesterday and it made a noticeable difference.

There are several very fascinating games next week, IMO, after a somewhat dull week this week.

Not college football but

when did a simple QB tackle for a sack become ruffing the passer?

They just need to put a red jersey on the QB and flags on both hips. Just let it be flag football for the QB.

This is NFL related and if you are a Saints fan.

TYK what I am referring to.

@Bulldogs4its getting close to flag football each year.

Here’s my NFL rant. I don’t care what college you went to. If you go against the Saints you’re the enemy. So many Saints fans here in Oxford were Giants fans today. Ridiculous. I know State/Commanders fans who were fans when they were the Redskins pull for the Cowboys because of Dak. You can’t be a Cowboys/Commanders fan. That’s like a Saints fan being a Falcons fan or a Yankees fan being a Red Sox fan.

I am very much a fair weather Saints fan (really a bandwagon fan). I liked Brees but since he retired I have not followed the Saints much.

But I was watching in the 4th quarter when the above play happened. Left me SMH.

I have no favorite NFL team but I do follow our Mississippi kids in the NFL. From all of our colleges. I understand Ole Miss fans being Giants fans today and LSU fans being Burroughs/Daniels fans when they faced off against the Saints. Just like I had mixed feelings when the Saints played Brett Favre in the NFC championship game years ago.

Unless someone was born with a fleur-de-les
in their hand I can understand split loyalties on the NFL level. College fan loyalty goes much deeper than the shallow NFL.
