Dawg83
Cooldown week for State against Alcorn, but OM follows up a big game with an even bigger game. We will start there, OM is a 7.5 point home favorite against Arkansas. This was an OM rout in Fayetteville last year. And it also broke the running tradition of this game getting really weird every single year. I think we revert back to weird this season. Arkansas has played nobody so it’s hard to know what they are. Ole Miss has played a nobody and the worst team in the SEC so… do we know a ton about them either? When you don’t know what you are getting, assume it will be an adventure lol. I am going Arkansas in an upset. Their last couple of trips to Oxford in the Pittman vs Kiffin era have both been close losses, I think they finally pull it out this time. Hogs 34, Rebs 31. Not much to say on State-Alcorn besides stay healthy and keep the train rolling. This would be State’s first 3-0 start since 2018 (and the less said about what happened next that season, the better). Would love to get our first real look at Kamario Taylor, assuming State inevitably gets up big in this one. Georgia -3.5 at Tennessee - Neyland has become a really tough place to play again, and I’m not sure on Georgia’s offense yet. I like both defenses. I’m taking the Vols in an upset, close low-scoring game. Texas A&M at Notre Dame -6.5 - I like the Irish at home Florida at LSU -8.5 - closer than many think after UF’s disastrous loss last week… but I think LSU wins at home Vandy at South Carolina -5.5 - really interested in this game. Vandy has been impressive so far…. What the heck, Dores steal one on the road: Edited September 9, 2025 by Dawg83
DrownInEtown
Lot of good games this week. I’m with you I think this feels like a game Ole Miss will drop, and then they’ll turn around and prolly beat LSU in 2 weeks. Just how OM football trends SCAR-Vandy is my upset of the week pick Not SEC but USF-Miami is another game to keep an eye on, I think the odds makers are out of their minds making them a 17.5 underdog again

Bulldogs4
Do we really know how good Arkansas is after beating Alabama A&M & Arkansas State? I think Ole Miss punches them in the mouth early and often. Arky will score some points later in the game but I think OM wins comfortably 31-17. Ole Miss is toughened up after a mug slog last week in LEX. Arky has been on cruise control but they are going to get hit by an eighteen wheeler Saturday. pancho
Arky is weak vs the run. Will Kiffen deviate from his normal O and not utilize the run as much? we shall see
Insideradvantage
Not sure how much, if anything, OM will be getting out of Simmons though.

NoWammies
It’s a possibility but I still think it’ll be Simmons’ team even though Chambliss does give more of an added running threat to the offense. I know a lot of Ole Miss fans that has already been calling for the change. I’m the type that remembers Dart struggling at times his first year at Ole Miss so I say just let Simmons continue to grow confidence. Chambliss has taken all of the QB1 snaps this week in practice so I’m pretty sure he’ll get the nod this week.
NoWammies
As I typed that I see Simmons practiced today and is now off the injury report. Could be typical Kiffin mind games or could mean he’s fine.
s1nglewing
I like Chambliss. Simmons is a liability @ QB
pancho
I'm interested to see how ole miss performs. Tulane and LSU are next. Is there a trap game here? Memphis will beat the hogs the next week
NoWammies
I don’t see this one being a trap game because Ole Miss knows Arkansas is coming in upset about last years result not to mention Ole Miss got 3 Arkansas players from last year. One being Kutas who gave the staff his word that if he was redshirted last year he’d return which he didn’t and it upset Pittman. On paper Ole Miss should win this game but if they don’t play their A game or start off slow again there could be an upset brewing before those Louisiana teams even come to town. I wanna see us establish the run game early instead of chunking the ball around the first two drives.
pancho
That goes against the grain of what Kiffin prefers. It sure will be interesting to see. Gosh there are folks all over campus
Bulldogs4
Not really surprised. Arkansas-Ole Miss has been a good rivalry for decades. I remember seeing them play in JAN on the back end of a double header with State playing in the afternoon and Arkansas-Ole Miss playing that night. Always drew a huge crowd then ( early1980’s). I’m sure Simmons will be out next week which will give Chambliss another chance to show what he can do. After that the question will be do you go with the hot hand or the highest NIL guy on the team that’s suppose to be your future?

Better reads, better confidence, better rushing speed... better in every aspect.
Dawg83
I was in Starkville tonight…. I’m sorry, I don’t mean to pick on Alcorn… But that might the worst FCS team I’ve seen State play since I’ve been keeping with State football over the last 25ish years.’ Alcorn’s band was awesome though. lol. Literally nothing to take away from this game. The Kamario Taylor trick play TD was fun. And State handled business like you want. 63-0 in a game where they only played 10 minute quarters in the second half, can’t really ask for more than that. Cannot afford to trip up against NIU next week. I think they are a step down from what they were last year, but this is still a coach that took his team to South Bend and beat Notre Dame last year. They seem to be decent defensively, albeit maybe not so good on offense. Just stay healthy and get to the Tennessee game at 4-0, that’s all that matters. And then see what happens in that game and the rest of league play. In general, it’s early but I would say State has looked better than i expected through 3 games. Obviously the rest of the schedule gets way harder. But can’t really argue with the start so far. First time State is 3-0 since 2018. A win next week would be only the 8th 4-0 start in school history, and first since 2014.
