Heidelberg is far and away the favorite to win the South and the State Championship. The North favorite is probably Charleston. A team to keep an eye on is Baldwyn. They moved up from 1A where they won it all last year. I wanted to see them after they beat Kossuth last week so I went to the Baldwyn-Booneville game, aka "The Skunk Bowl". Always try to get to that game each year as its a great rivalry game in NE. MS. Going into the game the teams were tied 35-35-3 all time. Baldwyn's line on both sides of the ball is big and physical. #55 couldn't be blocked. They have enough play makers to be dangerous. I would say right now the North is a toss up between Charleston, East Webster, Northside, and Baldwyn.

There is not much to say in South 2A outside of Heidleberg. Bay Springs maybe, and hat is a big maybe. Mize will show some fight now that they have a new look and can stretch the field some. Scott Central would probably round out the group.

I like East Webster in the north. I’m glad there are a lot of competitive teams in both the north and south. The south has a lot of competitive teams, but Heidelberg is the head and shoulders favorite. I noticed they have 17 seniors on the team this season. That’s a lot for a 2A program.

The heart of Heidelberg is that jr class. While they do have some younger guys that can flat out play, will it be enough once craft, and Moore are gone

      Also Baldwyn's field may be the best HS natural turf field, in any classification, anywhere. I saw these pics on X. It is cut really low and is like carpet.

Heidelberg is  lock to win 2A for  the next two years but after the junior class graduates they will be in the same position Scott  Central was after they had their run and their core players graduated.

When Baldwyn is good that entire fence line is covered with folks standing elbow to elbow. Have enjoyed the couple times I’ve been there to watch a game.

Mize and Clarkdale is kind of a toss up to me right now. Clarkdale hasn’t really played anyone yet, but they’ve won every game by 20+. Enterprise is most likely last.

Mize could be 1-8 by the time they play Enterprise on Oct. 30 of their next six games they will not be favored to win five and Clarkdale is a toss up; them giving up 41 points to a Magee team that has struggled offensively shows Mize has some problems.

Mize has to worry about mize right now and nobody else. Defense needs a lot of work, and we have a big problem with turnovers and penalties that we got to get fixed. I don’t care who you are playing, when you are turning the ball over multiple times a game you are going to make winning difficult.

Enterprise could be 3-6 or 2-7 going into this game. The only game I see a pretty much guaranteed win for Enterprise is North Forrest, and I could see North Forrest pulling off an upset. If anything you may could call that matchup a toss up. Taylorsville might be a win, but it’s more of a toss up as well IMO. I think this game could be the battle for the 4 seed in 2A Region 6 if neither team can beat Clarkdale.

Magee had a defensive score and special teams score, but we still gave up 4 offensive touchdowns to a team that isn’t that good offensively. Our biggest problems right now are mental mistakes (penalties) and turnovers.

Enterprise 1-8 vs Mize 1-8 & won't be surprised if Enterprise is left out of the playoffs.

Heidelberg might be the only one in the South that runs away from their region opponents. Positions 2 thru 5 may very well end up all 4 going 2-2 in region play. A few weeks ago I thought Bay Springs was a automatic 2 while Enterprise/Clarkdale will be playing for 4th. Probably a tie breaker scenario on the way for at least 3 of the 4.
