I’m still annoyed about the Germantown game because of how flat out unprepared they looked and how embarrassing it was. We’ve had a few stinkers like that the last couple of years.

Well I know those type of games happen, but I also know that you realize Russell Mitchell is a fantastic coach and he was prepared and had a game plan.  He did a lot of good things when he was OC at Picayune and Oak Grove, and I think what you saw was the game rewarding him.  When you do things the right way, the game will reward you and he is deserving of that.

I think OG may have figured things out. Lookalike their offense is averaging around 40 PPG and their defense has only given up 17 total points in their last 3.

Hattiesburg was pretty average but decent given it’s a rival

Laurel isn’t very good which is a shame because they have a ton of athletes.

Neville can beat most teams in Mississippi.

So Im optimistic all in all. And they’re playing much better defensively.

After Gulfport upset of Ocean Springs, I will go ahead and give Gulfport the region 4 title and Ocean Springs no.2 seed. I dont see either of them losing again in region play. Which leads me to saying Ocean Springs hosting a 3 seed in either Brandon Oak Grove or Petal is going to feel more like it should be a south state final than an opening round game.

I didn't think about that, but that's absolutely correct.  It looks like Gulfport's only real test will be when they have to travel to d'Iberville, but they could still clinch the 1 seed with 1 district loss.

I will have to give you credit about Petal being decent  and looking better  than any of the average looking  6A and 5A teams in the south. That still won’t stop the smile I get when they get sent home again.

For this topic I don’t know how Brandon looks but Oak Grove is getting their legs under them and that’s bad news for everyone else in the south.

Brandon is only averaging 14ppg right now. Both Petal and Brandon played Clinton. Brandon beat clinton 14-9 while Petal beat Clinton 20-3. Brandon and Oak Grove also played Starkville with OG losing like 58-57 and Brandon losing 22-14. 7a south may be more about matchups than talent when the playoffs start

Agree on all.

The team who makes fewer mistakes and capitalizes on their opponent’s mistakes will likely come out on top. We’re about to see who is hot this season. Gotta love district games

OG normally beats Brandon when it really counts the day after Thanksgiving. Idk how it will work out this year. I Just hope this OG group that is now at full strength keeps improving.

Would be fun to see Brandon go in as a 3 seed and have to travel to Ocean Springs for 1st round (assuming OS is the R4 #2 behind Gulfport in the #1 spot).
that could set up the possibility of a repeat of 2019’s South State matchup the day after Thanksgiving = OG vs Petal.

But, still a lot of football to be played. Whichever team wins Friday Petal vs OG will be in the drivers seat headed into their matchups with Brandon. The next 2 weeks.

Speaking of …

What in the world went on Friday night in the Brandon/NWR matchup? 0-0 going into the 4th quarter with a final of 3-0 Brandon?! Are both offenses terrible or both defenses THAT good? I was so confused by this one. Didn’t pay attention because I figured it would be an easy Brandon dub as usual and watched other games. Man was I wrong! What happened down there?

Well for one Brandon's starting QB was out with concussion protocols so they pretty much went the Tupelo route with lining up their star RB at QB and basically taking every snap. Actually if I'm not mistaken they didn't attempt a single pass the entire game. Definitely wouldn't say both defenses are "THAT good" though.

Hate when any high school player is hurt. And concussions are a much bigger deal than many people realize. The research being done on longterm effects of repeated concussions is shocking! And according to medical professionals, concussion is a much lower bar than most understand. Any person who sustains a knock to the head and has any ringing of the ears, dizziness/confusion lack of coordination (no matter how minor), tiredness or nausea should be treated as if they are concussed. Sorry - will get off my soapbox on that one now.
How is the Brandon QB now?

Just now reading tgus thread and seeing this post.  My 9 year old concussed himself  a month ago (we weren’t aware/didn’t notice the signs) then passed out while standing couple hours later and is about the scariest thing I can remember witnessing.

Wow. That’s scary - as a parent I can’t imagine. Hope he’s feeling better now
