Hattiesburg vs Petal.

The last time y’all beat Petal, it was by 9 points in 2018.  The last time y’all beat Petal at Petal was in 2017 by 6 points.  This series is dead even at 11 wins a piece.  In order for Hattiesburg to get to where they want to go, they’ll need to win this game and do it convincingly.  Can Vance get it done?

Hattiesburg has beaten themselves last 2 years vs Petal. HHS with missed opportunities, poor decisions and sloppy execution. Also HHS suffer injuries at the Qb position for the last 2 years. If we stay healthy next week Petal will lose by 21 points easily.

Idk how good Petal is don’t care, but they won their jamboree 21-6 against Ridgeland

That’s not really saying anything.  I’d like to think Hattiesburg can go into Petal and take care of business.  Maybe if y’all would stop treating it as a rivalry and just treat it as another opponent that is conveniently close by, y’all should blow them out of the water.  I also realize that’s easier said than done.

Yeah true, they can. I say we run them out of their own stadium. But strange things happen every time we play Petal.

I truly believe y’all can go in there and get a win, but I feel like the approach needs to be different and I don’t quite know what that is.  All I know is that if Hattiesburg approaches this game like they’ve done recently, the results are going to be similar.  Thankfully it doesn’t have to be that way, nor should it be.

Deonte, how did Purvis do in their scrimmage last week?  I think they were playing PRC if I'm not mistaken.

I go to church with a purvis guy. He said they played horribly but still won. What that tell you about prc? Lol

I think PRC is equivalent to a 1000 acre field that you have to plow with a mule.  It's going to take a while there and it may never get done at all, but at least the opportunity is there for it to happen.

Time to put up or shut up for Tony Vance and Hattiesburg in my opinion. Defense is supposed to be strong. Offense is healthy and has everyone available. Really no excuse to not have a really deep playoff run. If Hattiesburg struggles this season and sees another early exit, does Vance's seat get a little hot?

Nope. He will leave on his own terms.

I have been looking at possible matchups for state championships, and Hattiesburg keeps showing up on my radar. Is this a team that can make a deep run? Who is their top opponents they will see in playoffs?

On paper yes they check all the boxes to make a deep playoff run.  The top opponents that they would see in 6A south would probably be Pascagoula, West Jones, and I reckon us.  But it's obviously a ways out.  It looks like Vott has chimed in with a response as I type this.

Picayune is already a team I have written down. They impressed me the last two years.

Hattiesburg will not struggle and Vance seat will never be hot. He’s done too much for Hattiesburg High. But I agree. No excuses this season no matter what.

Deonte, this may be a difficult question to answer, but what would you view at the bare minimum as a successful season for Hattiesburg?  Is it a certain number of wins, a certain depth into the playoffs?  I just want to hear your honest thoughts on that.

I will be very disappointed if HHS is not at least playing for the chance to go to state. I plan on them playing the Friday after Thanksgiving
