Yes McEvans will be down a little this year compared to last but Simmons brings back a good bit(just as much as Smithville who they beat 54-0 last year) and South Delta who brings back a lot and will be one of the best teams in the north. Aren't all of those teams in the south. I said Regions 2 and 3 are awful. I stand by that statement unless I am looking at the wrong regions list. I think 1A South is actually very too heavy with Velma Jackson and Taylorsville. They will definitely be the cream of the crop in 1A, IMO. Velma Jackson was probably the 2nd best 2A squad last season after Scott central, and they returned a ton of talent. Taylorsville lost some linemen, but returned a ton of very talented skill players. They went from 3A to 1A in the blink of an eye. But let me tell you, their QB and RB are legit. I don’t know how that RB was able to be cleared by the MHSAA last season, because he left for hartfield academy and came back to Velma Jackson all during the season but I’m obviously not privy to the rules I guess. But he’s an absolute stud. They also have a very good looking defensive end who I think is a junior this season. He usually gets all the hype but I was most impressed with their RB. They've always had some good football up that way. That's who Coach Triplett was able to beat for the '86 5A title. I'm curious to see what they can do. You have to basically play a perfect game to beat West Point.
