You are correct. I thought they had over 300 but that’s for their entire school K-12

Don’t let MAIS classification numbers confuse you. The majority of MAIS schools have less than 120 high school students.

I personally dont think this new region and playoff format is going to be fair unless they are only taking 2 teams. In reality though, some regions only have 4 teams that are football playing while a few of them have 6 that all participate. Most regions especially north regions will have teams that very well would not have made the playoffs in an 8-9 team region. What other competitive north 1A region that will be average or good besides the one that Baldwyn and Biggersville in to challenge each other. The south will be a gauntlet especially after round 1.

I know old Velma Jackson is solid.  But I'm not convinced of them but i will take it like a grain of salt....

i agree with you about Velma they play a very soft non - district schedule by scheduling butter cups who are a bigger classification but they are solid or strong football programs just to pad the wins up and when they play an solid team it shell shocks them some so I am going with Taylorsville as well.

I agree they will still be good. It’s not about them, it’s about who they loaded their schedule up with. Personally I think they win a couple of those games. I’m gonna say they are no better than 3-4 in their first 7 games though. Probably 2-5. I like the Craft kid. I went to school and played ball with his dad.

Taylorsville always loads their early non district schedule with bigger and better teams! Gets them ready for the playoffs! I don't think they win out in early season but they will win more than they lose! Guess we'll see!

If I’m not mistaken, every team in 1A North is already in the playoffs because they are all 4 team regions. So Thrasher, Ashland, Byers, Coffeeville and Coldwater all are in the playoffs (a combined 12-47 record last year with only Ashland making the playoffs) while one of Nanih Waiya, Noxapater, Velma Jackson, Ethel and French Camp will be left out. Great job by the MHSAA going to 7 classes.

I haven't heard any bold predictions for West Bolivar this year (for once). I hear the team is mostly comprised of underclassmen and is still struggling with numbers

I heard who your (source) is and once again you are wrong. West Bolivar has about 30 players with a (29 player roster on Maxpreps) but it seems they’ve added a couple by looking at the names. Second, after watching them play Lakeside a 3A school out of Arkansas that is decent this season with a 3-star RB without 4 starters two due to injury that I know of.. losing that game 22-28 was definitely a step in the right direction with a team starting/playing over 10 underclassmen. My pick today is if West Bolivar talent continues to develop they are in the picture with South Delta to round out the top 3 in the district. McEvans will start the season off 0-5.

19 underclassmen on a team of 30... and I wasn't wrong last year either

What last year has to do with this season?  As I said, your source is wrong. West Bolivar has around 30 players which is typical for a 1A school roster in this area. Second, they have good depth and should capitalize on it more especially offensively. They played a team with a 3-star senior RB who has multiple D1 offers including Arkansas State, Vanderbilt, and Tulsa. The game came down to the final play with WB driving inside its own 20 yard line. They just ran out of time. 22-28 game with 4 turnovers and 4 starters didn’t play.
West Bolivar has tremendous skill for a young team.
People in this town are excited. Parents, fans, community members etc. talked to and reached out to me all weekend talking Rosedale football.

Get your popcorn ready..

I wish the team luck. It'd be for for the community if they can win a few games and be more competitive this season

Your statement should not be including McEvans for the prior message talks/ask about you and the West Bolivar Eagles and yall only. That should be left for me as a Shaw Warriors (formerly McEvans Warriors) supporter just as you are purely a West Bolivar supporter. You can easily support and defend your team without mentioning Shaw. You hate Shaw that much that you had to throw them in a statement when nobody asked about Shaw. Shaw may have lost nearly all skills either to graduation or transfer to private school, including the lately the qb in a late decision, who is now at Greenville Christian playing qb. They are figuring things out with a new coach and gameplan there and will go through a learning curve. The experienced line returns on both sides. It isnt wise to base your opinion off jamborees.  If you think a coach going to show his cards in a jamboree, you are something special. Furthermore, West Tally, who return nearly all their players as a playoff team, is probably the 3rd best team starting off with experience and they almost got knocked off by a much improved team this past week. Shaw has 1 2A and 3 3A playoff teams as their non-district schedule with 2 of them highly potentially being north state representatives for their class so as for Shaw we shall see how Shaw responds and grow in the upcoming weeks.

Its just funny how somebody else source is wrong when it comes to the West Bolivar but you can throw shade on somebody that aint even have anything to do with their asking of YOUR WELL BEINGS AND YOUR TEAM.

I think they can win more than a few. I guess we’ll see how the team develops week in and week out. I’ll unveil my 1A rankings after non-district play. West Bolivar will return to the top 5 in 1A starting in 2024-2026.

They are absolutely loaded with young talent. Elite young talent.

That’s one thing about a dynasty.. winning 5 state championships in two different eras will never be done again out of the Mississippi Delta unless West Bolivar does it.. three eras would solidify Rosedale in the top 10 all-time in the state of Mississippi. It’s remarkable when you think about the history of this football program that was built by Coach Leland Young and Coach Henry Johnson among many other great coaches. Based on what I saw Week 1, Hollandale(did not play), West Bolivar, Leland, and South Delta are the best 1A teams in the Delta.

Neither has better personnel than Leland. Rosedale and Leland are two schools that in the last 10 years have gone through extremely high turnover in school administration. That directly affected athletics in a negative way.

When Leland had stability before the issues I spoke of that program would make the 2A playoffs year in and year out. Same with West Bolivar who dominated 2A North along with Calhoun City for about 10 years from 2003-2013.

If Leland fixes a few internal problems, they will compete. West Bolivar is about to go through some changes at the top in the near future.

I believe it is the best thing that has happen for our school community since 2011-2012.
