What offense best fits a school, should it be a Young or Old Guy, an Offensive or Defensive guy. The truth is I don't know. Some of these hires surprise the Hell out of me and some I could see coming. Here are my thoughts. Biggest Surprise so Far 1. Marcus Boyles out of retirement to Meridian 2. Bramlett promoted at OS (Just because of some of the names I heard they interviewed) 3. Feaster to MP 4. Dyess and Parker teaming up at Clinton Christian 5. That someone has not Hired Jeff Stockstill so far. Think he is the Best Mid Level coach available in the state right now Not a Surprise 1. There have been almost 40 HC openings this off season. The rate of change in this profession is crazy 10 years ago if 20 jobs opened in a year that was a lot. Today 40 is not surprising at all. 2. I would have bet my house that Marcus was done coaching. With today's society 40 openings doesn't surprise me. Parents are driving coaches out of the profession in droves. Bramlett promoted at OS (Just because of some of the names I heard they interviewed) I guess a lot of people were surprised at this hiring, though I’m not sure if all of those reported interviews with hall of fame coaches were actually a thing. Once it was decided not to retain an experienced head coach, Bramlette was near the top of the list of young, offensive minded assistants, and he only had to move down the hall. ccbulldog Posted March 5, 2023 Share Posted March 5, 2023 Marcus was the perfect person for the Meridian job and the Meridian job was the perfect job for Marcus. He loves to program build and Meridian was down. However the talent is there to work with. And he said retirement made him realize he's a football coach and that's what makes him happy. Rebel Bert Posted March 6, 2023 Share Posted March 6, 2023 Stockstill 's son if he's living with dad now there is no need to move. He's got kids that want to win. Although many from Forest moved north and east to get out of that Forest school zone over the years has hurt the Bearcats and helped both Scott Central and Lake. The pressure to win in a lot of places isn't as important as winning with the right kids on the field. Parents and boosters in some places can dictate all the way down to what kind of offense and defense you run all the way down to play calling. Admins will listen bc the parents with the political stroke also control their jobs. You don't have to just build great young men and win games Wich is hard enough. You also have to do it while swimming in shark infested waters for not a lot of money for the hours you spend and stress you put on your family and loved ones. No coach's wife and children should be hurt by the decisions of such boosters and political crap but it happens every day. I think this instant gratification society has changed not just this profession but many. It will be harder to keep people in this business, especially with the amount of time and dedication it takes. It is no where near the commitment not only for coaches but players compared to when I played.
