Any guys with closer ties to that community than myself have any idea who the early frontrunners to be the next HC at Stone are??  I would think coordinators at Picayune or Poplarville or at some of the better nearby Hattiesburg area programs would be interested.  Anybody have names?

A few parents at the basketball game last night were talking about the DC from Oak Grove

Biggest problem is going to be $$$. Stone does not pay well. Word is Feaster was making about 60k as head football coach. Was told he got a "substantial" raise with going to Moss Point. Anyone interested in that job will have to be passionate about just having the opportunity to be a head coach.

I know Dub wouldn't like it, but any coordinator from OG would be a huge get for Stone.  If they can get the pay reasonable then it would definitely make the job more enticing.

I am not too familiar with the area, but isn't Stone their own school district? Why is the pay so low?

Yes Stone is it's own district.  The county isn't very big population or land-wise, so they just have the one high school.  They play all of their football games at A.L. May Stadium in Perkinston, but they are about to get a brand new high school and new football stadium so they won't have to share with Gulf Coast anymore.  Not that that's a problem, but they will be able to have their own logos on the football field which is something they've never had before.  It's definitely not a bad gig and with the new facilities coming it will be better.  I don't know why the pay is low, but if they want to get a good coach then they may have to reassess the pay ceiling.  There definitely isn't a doom and gloom future there like there could be at some other schools.

There's not a whole lot of industry there.  They don't have the pickles anymore and all they have pretty much is timber and logging.  I guess that lumber mill is still going off of Hwy 49.

IP is probably the biggest employer in the county. Most folks work in Forrest or Harrison Co's.

That’s what I was getting at.  Nothing really there.

You must mean International Paper, but yeah they've got the poles and piles covered in Wiggins.  I think they supply New Orleans with all of their timber treated piles, but Wiggins winds up being a suburb of either Gulfport or Hattiesburg so what you said makes complete sense.

Pay isn’t as bad as Lamar County. Supplement is on par with most schools. I think someone told me Feaster Made mid 70s. As for new facilities I don’t see that happening. The news stated that the new bond issue was for 19 million. I don’t see anyone building a new school and football stadium with that budget. Heck most schools in this area are costing 30 million plus. A small new stadium would run you 3-4 million.  Leaving you 14-15 to build a new school, gym, field house and performing arts center etc.

The article from WLOX on May 18th of last year shows renderings of the football stadium and high school.  If they can't get any portion of what they show done then it will be some serious false advertising and a bunch of angry taxpayers.

Renderings are just pictures. You tell me you think your can build a school and football stadium for 19 million. Just the infrastructure of a project this big would be 2-3 million before you start building the first building. They will be lucky to get the school built.

According to the principal water, sewer, electricity, etc. was already on site prior to the bond. That should save quite a bit.

Maybe so. I am just going off what friends in that area have told me. I just can’t see how they are gonna build it that cheap. If they get it done, it needs to be a model for every new school built in the state. They will be doing it with almost half of what it has cost everyone else to build a new High School.

I watched the video from that report ... my goodness, that's a tiny stadium.

It is, but metal bleachers are cheap.  The cast-in-place reinforced concrete and fancy decorative brick work is where it can get expensive.  They could probably get a stadium and field house similar to Purvis and stay within budget.

Family in the county tells me that a lot of work is being done pro bono, so there's that.

I just watched the video. Stone is in need of a much updated appearance. However, we all know how politics will play a roll in their future, just as I am sure politics may be the reason they are in this situation now
