Picayune got taken to the woodshed by PRC. That was Collins’ last year at PRC and Picayune was down a little bit that year. They did to Picayune what Picayune normally does to PRC. When Collins left after that season and went to d’Iberville, PRC should have promoted Seth to head coach but they didn’t and they’ve paid the price ever since. I believe Seth was already in East Central building then by that point and had just had his 1st winning season I believe. Not sure if PRC made a push for him or not though. That’s what I meant by opposite direction. Normally picayune blows PRC out but PRC blew picayune out that year. Also, Seth had been gone a few years by then. Feaster was the DC. That was a down year for picayune. Even lost to Long Beach that year
coastfootballfanman
6A South in my opinion is basically Picayune, then West Jones, then Hattiesburg, George County, Pascagoula and Terry. I think Picayune is a lock for region 4 with George County and Pascagoula battling for second. I think Hancock and West Harrison will fight for 4th place. George County returns probably the most explosive skill group of anyone, but they are severely lacking on the lines and at linebacker. They looked up and down in their spring jamboree. You could see the big play potential but you could also see where they have major holes. They are a wild card for me. Pascagoula returns a pretty good amount from a team that was good enough to be in the playoffs last year. Make or break year for Sims in my opinion. I have always respected Lewis Sims so I would like to see him finish his career on a positive note. They have some D1 talent and experience on both sides coming back. West Harrison was probably the most competitive they have been in years from a record stand point, but anytime they played a team with a pulse, they were trounced. Hancock will be hard nosed and physical. They return the best quarterback in the region. I expect them to be the 4 seed in the region. Long Beach has a ways to go before I consider them to be a threat. I did see they are switching to the flexbone option. That may help them control the clock and compete. I see region 4-6A finishing out as follows: I think you could realistically swap Pascagoula and George County for 2-3 seeds, will be a big game at the end of the year for both of them. Picayune Pascagoula (or George County) George County (or Pascagoula) Hancock West Harrison Long Beach

When I saw them play last year they shutout PRC, so that's not really a great indicator of the team that they had or what they will possibly return. They return a good bit defensively I believe on the defensive line and line backers. Offense lost some weapons and the secondary as well but they are always going to be a hard nosed bunch that play hard. They won’t usually match up with athletes, but they are going to play tough. Very much an East Central or Vancleave type.
maroontide06
We are less than a month from kickoff on Friday, August 25th. It won't be too much longer to wait. Will there be any coastal teams participating in jamborees on Friday, August 18th?
maroontide06
I just hope these fuel prices will subside some because high gas prices and football season don't mix. If your carburetor is running a little rich, now is the time to get it tuned in.

coastfootballfanman
Well now that Deuce Knight has departed George County, I see them as a team possibly fighting for the playoffs. Rumors are more of their players are getting out as well. Not sure how true or what the real situation is, but George County definitely took a huge hit in terms of really challenging Picayune and other south 6A teams. Yes this definitely changes the outlook for George County and I thought they were going to turn the corner for the better. West Harrison might wind up getting their very first playoff berth. Picayune isn't the same team that went to Pascagoula in 2020 on a Saturday at high noon and got beat. Neither is Pascagoula. There may be a wide gap there. There is a wide gape between Picayune and everyone else in my opinion. West Jones has the best shot to dethrone them in the South in my opinion but Pierson is not leading them anymore so there could be some drop off from that. However, they play the game for a reason and high school football is known to produce some craziness! This team if it can stay healthy (which has been a problem the last 2 seasons) is going to be very very good.

We can say it was injuries, but there was no talk of that heading into the playoffs from you guy last year on a 7 game win streak. So was it really injuries? Outside of the Snoop Conner years at Hattiesburg, you guys have been on par with just about everyone else. Not meaning that as a knock, just stating the facts of what your record shows. maroontide06
It seems like it's a mixed bag with Vance. You never know what you're gonna get and that inconsistency factor is the one thing that's been consistent at Hattiesburg. The potential is there for Hattiesburg to be really good and maybe they will be, but when will things come together for them and how many more timeouts can he get this year throwing his shenanigans? I will agree on one thing. Winning the game that matters is what it comes down to. Other than the past two years I don’t see the argument. The lost last season to Vancleve had nothing to do with injuries it was just straight hit in the mouth and didn’t know how to respond nothing more nothing less same when WJ beat us few years ago. The previous year injuries did play a role at the beginning and end. Other than that the tigers have been perfectly healthy. In 2020 we lost to Pascagoula in what I believe to be a hugeeeeeeee fluke to this day… personal opinion.
