Yea sure. But I’ve been saying for a few weeks now that I don’t want anyone crowning us or making us out to be this big overwhelming fav. While I do think we have the most talent I’ve seen this year we have some flaws. I think we may have found the right personnel defensively against Laurel so we’ll see how we respond at Meridian coming off a bye week. We certainly will be healthier than we’ve been.

I can’t imagine that, but there are a couple of games that might go against them. A little more competition in district than I expected, namely Pearl, NW Rankin, and the usual Brandon team that knows how to win when the weather gets cooler. Ocean Springs is what I thought they were, a work in progress, but if they caught a break or two, might pull the upset. Mostly hopefull thinking, yeah, O.G. is the overwhelming favorite at this point.

OS is better than I thought especially after actually watching a couple games. I think you have a slight edge on Gulfport and I don't think HC is really that good.

Do you think a loss would probably benefit OG at this point in the season? Ofc nobody wants to lose but just some food for thought.

I think region play is too late for a beneficial loss. There's a small silver lining to losing early in the season if you have a really good but unfocused team, coaches can get the kids focused and have them play up to their potential. If you aren't locked in and playing hard for a region title or playoff spot then it probably just won't happen

Nah…I prefer real victories over moral ones. I do think they did get big headed especially going into the Hattiesburg and MRA games and those close games were beneficial and delivered some much needed adversity.

Unless I’m blinded by my fan ship, I’m seeing O.S. getting better literally by the minute. The loss to Madison was due to being unorganized on offense and a new coaching staff. I think the Jags went in with the same mentality, but managed to get the win.  Then, going down 17 points in the first quarter to NW Rankin forced the offensive change to opening the play book, winning that game and never looking back as they beat Picayune. Doesn’t mean they are better than O.G., but it puts them in the conversation if they keep improving. Gulfport is a whole different level of mental gymnastics, with their new coach being our old coach. Kids react differently to stuff like that, so both staffs will have to control the emotions. On the field I think O.S. has the better team comparing common opponents.

I think it will be between Oak Grove and Brandon. IF they stay healthy, I like Ocean Springs to maybe surprise. Their defense is really solid, especially their front 7. Offense is getting better. I think they will beat Gulfport. Obviously as David stated, that game is a tricky one with Pennock and Gulfport does have a solid ball club that can matchup with Ocean Springs at the skill. I believe the difference will be Ocean Springs front 7 vs Gulfport offensive line. I am not sold on their offensive line being good enough to beat the Greyhounds. Pearl seems to be really improved but I think they are a year out from being a legit contender for 7A south.

I thought Gulfport would have the edge over Ocean Springs but I have reversed course. Ocean Springs are really solid up front and athletes all over the field especially #7 & #8. Two legit players, what I think it will come down to is the QB play. He was lights out against Picayune and if he keeps improving they will be a tough out. I like the way he looks the field over and doesn't look to pull the ball down and take off right away. I still can't get over the tackle eligible play on 4th down, great call by the coaching staff.

I haven’t made a big deal about it, but the kid who’s maybe their best offensive weapon has not played a down yet since a serious injury in the spring. But, Whitehead, who’s being recruited all over the country as a sophomore athlete, might return this week, and adds much more speed to the offense in the slot or backfield. Excellent coaching job from the staff, who were questioned when the safety was taken against Madison that backfired.

Doubt it. Meridian-OG has kind of been like State-Bama over the last 5-6 years. OG has been the better team and even when we have had a chance to win we have found a way to lose.

Meridian is 3-3 this year but we could be 5-1. But we are still a major work in progress although we have improved some during the season. This will be by far our toughest test to date.

OG is clearly the better team but we will see how goes Friday night.

It’s not going to go for you!

It will be Oak Grove or Brandon in the South. Period. I am tired of hearing about Gulfport or OS really.

simma da na!  Going up to Meridian for OG may not be the cake walk you envision if OG has the big head.  OG is very, very good but this is high school football for a reason.  As long as Gulfport and Ocean Springs are good football teams (which they are), you’ll continue to hear about them.  I know you want Oak Grove to win (and they prolly will), but you’ve got to respect Meridian as your opponent.  As long as you do that, Oak Grove won’t have many troubles.

Ha I am simma da na!

After years of Meridian and FOG (I am sure anyone can interpret this), I have no respect for Meridian.  I hope we beat them 100-0.  I do respect the remaining 2 Meridian posters on the board now (bulldogs and mout) as they didn’t get caught up in all of that.

That said let OS man talk. Perhaps he wins again this season…

It turned out the same way it did for OS! So where did that get you?  Still no South State Championships…

That’s a classic O.G. move, dog a team for losing without mentioning that they got to the south state championship game by beating… O.G.  I’ve got lots of buddies in here who talk football and who also give credit to their opponents, win or lose instead of ghosting themselves after a loss. Like Picayune, Madison, and especially Brandon, who knew that they had won a classic football game last year and took the time to shake a hand afterwards. This is the epitome of class. Try to learn.

We shake hands just like any other team. What are you talking about? We literally own Ocean Springs historically. This is too funny.

Yes sir, you’re right about that. And you personally have been fair, pointing out through the years that we needed to upgrade our schedule and facilities to compete with you and the other big boys. We did those things, and it paid off with a three year run of regular season wins and last year, a win over one of the traditional powers in O.G.  Yet, this summer your compatriot pointedly singled us out as being less than a challenge, and has refused to acknowledge that loss to us. Then yesterday, suggested that we not even talk about my team cause his/hers was so much better. I’m going to clap back when that happens. If you get caught up in it, I’m sorry. Let’s just talk football, and let’s include my team in that conversation. I think we’ve earned that. Again, no disrespect to you, sir.

Sir Dub!  I like that.

I don’t believe any OG poster called for a victory prior to the game with OS last year. So, the ghost came before the game was even played as I for one believed we were likely outmatched against Mr Football.

I will always see our opponents as being less of a challenge and will smack. Nothing personal…

Whoever comes out of Region 4 better have their big boy britches on! 👀

It will be interesting to see who will be the 1 seed from region 4.  I believed Gulfport to be the favorite early on but OS has looked really good to date. Both have played respectable teams well and I favor OS at this point.

Congratulations OS on the win over OG, 👏 well played!

I don't know now, because besides the 1st quarter, Gulfport gave Brandon problems. Gulfport has athletes all over the place, Pennock just got to figure out how to use them. Ocean Springs beat the team Brandon couldn't, of course they were Davis-less but still impressive.

In order for any team to beat Oak Grove you have to have great (and I mean Great!! ) QB play and the defense has to be solid on the front and back end. MRA QB played lights out, which gave them a chance to win. The MRA defense had to many breakdowns.

OAN: "I'm a Pearl Pirate" lol !! We coming, still a young team. Our QB is giving me JRP vibes, he can take it to the house on any given play. He's a Sophomore(4.5 forty)! We are mostly sophomores and Juniors who took their lumps as freshmen and soph last year. We are still learning so I'm not saying we're going to win it all this year, but our kids are bigger stronger faster!!!

Pearl has been a surprise and impressive in Region 3 no doubt about it. The upcoming game with NWR will be interesting.
