It’s only at Brandon if Oak Grove wins. If OS wins they would host. It’s the higher Region number this year. The defense is much better than the first time they played. It will all depend on if the offense comes out sharp and not flat like they did the first half against NWR.

OS isn’t better than Oak Grove Yeah, I don’t understand anyone favoring OS. Suppose both teams are rebuilding to a degree but OG has better skill across the board. The OS offense is too pedestrian to keep up in this one.
Mississippi Queen
OG should have this one for several reasons: 1. margin of victory in their first matchup (OG won 35-21). While the argument could be made that OS has gotten better since then, the same can be said for OG. So that’s a non-issue. 2. margin of victory vs common opponents: OG over NWR 59-27 OS over NWR 24-17 in playoffs (NWR over OS 29-28 during regular season) OS over Biloxi 34-14 OG over Biloxi 34-20 3. outside the Bray Hubbard years, OG has had a pretty firm grip on this matchup 4. there’s nothing in the data to suggest OS is the better team this year. And their region is less competitive overall. Now, if OS overperforms expectations AND OG cannot control their penalty situation and is injury plagued or underperforms, then OS has a chance to take it in a close one. I think you are spot on with this post! There will be another train running through Greyhound stadium and he goes by Kylin Champagne. If we don’t beat ourselves with 100+ penalties or turnovers it will be like the first matchup. Dubaction
I’m waiting on a football related explanation from the coast guys as to why Ocean Springs is gonna win this game. Outta pure curiosity

I’d be surprised if OG doesn’t pop the cork and let Champagne go off! His fresh legs + offensive weapons like Lewis, Causey, Smith, Weary, Hall, etc just add up to more scoring threats than OS will be able to handle. (Unless - as stated - OG beats themselves up with penalties)

Outta pure curiosity Mostly just home field and the first playoff game. I was surprised to see OG give up 20 to Biloxi in any capacity so OS should realistically be able to put up 28-35. And Biloxi has a great defense most of the time, but OS's is no slouch. I think OG has a great chance at winning too, just think OS can adjust and win. But I'm leaning towards 55% OS, 45 % OG.

Outta pure curiosity I don't think anyone should be comfortable saying they are gonna win and are the dominate team in this one. The final score of the last matchup was misleading considering, the game was tied 21-21 with 6min left in the 4th quarter in week 2. I've watched both teams play all year and I assumed this would be a rematch in the second or third round. I'm with you that Oak Grove is the favorite on paper and based on the last meeting, somewhat. I don't buy into one team has improved since week 2 and the other has stayed the same, but OS had 9-10 new starters this season on defense so the amount of growth they've had during this season has been fun to watch. I don't think anyone would've thought they'd be as good on that side of the ball as they've been after basically losing the entire defense. Obviously turnovers and penalties played a huge part in the game when they last met. OG had tons of penalties and OS had bad snaps/fumbles kill drives. In the last meeting, OS had the blocked FG for a TD that turned the momentum their way until mid 4th quarter, then OG received the gift of a terrible grounding penalty to set OS back when they were driving, then fumbled in the backfield and OG picked it up and ran it in for a TD to seal the game. OG is well balanced on offense and if the QB is left upright he seems to have improved. Hopefully OS defense will continue to pressure the opposing QB this week and make him make a mistake but everyone will have made adjustments since the last meeting.OS's huge o-line pushed OG around a litte bit last meeting and I see that being a must for OS to have success this week. I think this will be a good game and I'm just hoping neither team walks away feeling like a bad call determined the outcome of the game. The same crew that was in OG the last meeting was the same crew OS had against NWR last week, where both teams probably felt they were screwed at least 3 or 4 times by questionable calls, and a couple terrible ones. I'm not saying that crew is purposely bad, I just know they had to have been given a bad grade on both games I've witnessed them call. Let's pray the kids on the field determine the outcome this week and that the game is a good one because it usually is. Safe travels! If OG doesn’t get in their own way like they are prone to do, they will win.

Pay them better, school them more. Idk - whatever it takes. Regardless, If a team is in a position where one bad call seals the game, it’s their own fault. Play better. Additionally, no ref should be making obviously bad calls in a playoff game. All that said - neither team should leave any doubt on the field. If it’s close enough that a bad ref call is the deciding factor in a game, then the team has to see that as their own fault. If one penalty is the deciding factor, neither team has asserted its dominance to a high enough degree. Leave no doubt. When two good teams play in the playoffs the game is supposed to be close and hard fought and one bad call that changes field position can absolutely change the outcome of a game I know these are low paid refs with a day job who mostly do their best. Some are just better than others. Hopefully we get the better half this week. Safe travels.

Classes 1-4a playoffs start that week and MHSAA is trying to get the most qualified and most experienced officials for those playoff games. The game I was at Friday night, I would say all 9 officials (that includes the 2 clock operators in the press box) were all in their 30s and 40s. We had a really good experienced group.

Some of the livestreams I’ve watched this year have had PITIFUL clock operators. Worst I’ve seen in years. Including one playoff game last week. Livestream I was watching actually called them out - they’d been messing up all game. And finally the livestream crew told the viewing audience that the last time they looked over at the clock guys, they were both scrolling on their phones. heck. Where do you sign up to get paid for that nonsense? Lmk and I’m headed there now. And these are the best we’ve got? They are the reason 5-7A teams have to finish their regular seasons on Thursdays? Geez. if they can’t even manage a clock, there’s no wonder they’re missing calls all over the place.
