CFB Week 12 Thread

This is annually the worst week of the year in the SEC. A lot of games against nobodies the week before rivalry week.

Ole Miss-Arkansas is by far the most interesting game of the week for me. And I will not lie, I freaking love it when these two play. The chaos that happens almost every year is top shelf. My understanding is it’s going to feel like Siberia in Fayetteville on Saturday. I think Ole Miss is the better team but this is a really tricky spot to be playing a decent team on the road. I am going to take the Hogs here, just a hunch. But obviously this could go either way.

I mean there’s not much else to talk about frankly. State-ETSU should be uneventful. Georgia-Kentucky should be a massacre, probably the same for Tennessee-Carolina. Weak national slate too, other than a couple of big PAC 12 games.

Think A&M can pull off an upset?

The elephant in the room right now is the Kiffin to Auburn smoke. Who knows how it actually plays out but I lived it with Mullen for 9 years and can say with total confidence that it can absolutely be a distraction. Many State fans attribute Mullen’s Egg Bowl troubles post-2011 to him job shopping.

May be relevant, may not be. But it’s not fun when you’ve still got big SEC games to play and all people want to talk about is your coach maybe leaving.

I think it’s coming.  Based on nothing, but I believe they will and that will keep him in Oxford until Bama or Texas comes open.

I think it’s gonna be in the 9.5 - 10 range. And the NIL money is gonna be raised significantly. Anyone with a brain knows that he isn’t going to be at OM forever. But I just have a hard time seeing Auburn being job that lures him away.

The one thing I’m skeptical of is the NIL numbers being thrown around.  If you can raise that much (or have pledged that much) why wasn’t the school already doing that?  That goes for OM and Auburn.

On another note, when NIL was first introduced the school coins have no part in getting NIL for the players.  Now the schools seem to be getting the money and passing it out.  It’s a free for all at the moment with little to no oversight.

A lot of this will be repeating/agreeing.

Yeah, week 12 is always one of the worst weeks of college football when it comes to interesting games.

OM @ Arkansas is easily the best SEC matchup on paper and that game is definitely typically a good one. I'm picking OM to win, but I sure wouldn't put money on it. Strange things happen in this matchup often and seems to go Arkansas way more often than not. 4th and 25, need I give other examples?

Scrolling through the top 25 with both teams ranked playing this weekend (I may have missed one?)

#7 USC @ #16 UCLA should be good. USC favored by 2.5.

#10 Utah @ #12 Oregon also should be good. Utah favored by 2.

I'll throw in #22 Oklahoma State @ Oklahoma. This is somewhat a "who cares" game this season, but I have a feeling it could be a very fun watch.

Bad choice of programming IMO, 3 of the 4 games I mentioned start at 6:30 or 7:00 while the other starts at 9:30.

I’m going to say if Jefferson plays I’ll take Arkansas.  If not, OM.  It’s going to be unbearably cold at that game.  Colder but not as nasty as the Arkansas/LSU game.  Who knows in those conditions.

Those PAC12 games should be good.  I’ll take USC over UCLA and Oregon over Utah since it’s in Eugene.

Oklahoma State over Oklahoma.  Riley just killed that program.

And, yes, A&M picks up a huge win this weekend.  Silencing all the critics.

I like Ole Miss to win the game @ Arkansas. I know the weather is going to be a factor. But Arkansas has no offense and Jefferson is hurt. He certainly is a good QB but because of injuries, he has not been the same player he was last year. And you all are correct that this has been a WTF game over the years especially for Ole Miss. But this year OM takes care of business and gets the win. 24-20.

USC, Oregon and Oklahoma State all win. It is tempting to take UMASS but they are so bad that even A&M should be less bad than them. Won’t they?
Can Vandy win two in a row? Florida is coming to Nashville after a big W over USCe. I would like to take Vandy over Florida. Yep, I am calling it. Vandy beats Florida 20-17.

ole miss mite as well offer him 10 mil a year

The only issue here is Mississippi schools can’t go over 4 years for a contract, Auburn can. Yeah Ole Miss could offer $10 mil a year for 4 years, but what if Auburn offers close to it or the same amount over 7 or 8 years? With more guaranteed money?

I do think the contract law has helped State and OM not make some stupid investments over the years, but in the case of coaches like Mullen or Kiffin that were pursued by other schools, that law can definitely be a negative.

Whoever gets him will probably have to give him a fully guaranteed contract.  That is insane.

Again the four year limit deal in MS is a good thing overall. As much movement as we have with Coaches these days, a coach rarely stays in one place longer than 6-8 years and often much less. Very few are 10+ in the present time.
Doubtful that Alabama finds another Saban who will stay 15+ years. In the twenty five years between Bear and Saban, Bama had 7 coaches. Basically, the average tenure was 3 1/2 years.

Transfer portal might as well apply to coaches these days.

I just read that Barkley was on a show yesterday and said there’s going to be a “shocking” firing in the SEC, AND he knows the school is going after Deion for the job.

Interesting.  What school do y’all think it is?

A&M?

I don’t see any other coach in jeopardy. That would be shocking because the buy out is 80-90 million dollars. Even A&M with resources they have will be swallowing a big bitter horse pill with that.

Otherwise, nothing would be that shocking.

State taking care of business early

35-0 at the half.

please get the starters out.

Need Arky and Ole Miss to play 4 OT’s so they will be still worn out Thursday…LOL

All kidding aside. Hate to see the tough weather conditions in Fayetteville. Here is hoping for no injuries during that game.

Forbes is a playmaker on defense.  I expect him to make an impact in the NFL.
