I’m not too familiar with 4A south teams but I expected more from Mendenhall. Not sure if it’s really underperforming due to loss of a lot of players from last year and a new coach, but crazy how McEvans/Shaw went from playing in state championship last year to 1-8 this year only scoring 24 total points. I’d prob go with IAHS as well but not sure how much they had returning from last years 12-1 team.

You mean Choctaw County. I would say that kid is gonna be a stud but he already is. He’s made that offense so much more balanced to go along with their good WR group. He’ll be a dandy dozen his senior year.

I’d consider those two more as favorites than sleepers. I’d put Warren Central in 6A North as a sleeper. 7A North maybe Madison Central.

Obviously cuz he’s forgotten about Kamario Taylor and DeQuadrion Welch at Noxubee as well. Then can’t leave out Chase Richardson at Winona who is close to being a 2K yard passer and 1K yard rusher. 3A is loaded with talent this year with Winona being the most loaded which has shown throughout the year.

You are aware they play football in the north aren’t you? Just asking cuz Winona has 3 D1 guys that are ranked much higher than Sims then Choctaw County has Caleb Cunningham who is a 4 star top 20 nationally ranked WR for next year that could go to any college he wants by time he graduates.

Not sure who it was but I remember a little while back someone was talking about if an OT drive started with a penalty(15 yarder in this example) why would the team be allowed a chance for a first down and not be 1st and goal from the 25 instead. Well last night in the Catholic B.R./Zachary game Zachary was issued a 15 yard penalty to start their drive. The refs initially made it 1st and 10 from the 25 before the Catholic coach ran to them with a rule book stating it should be 1st and goal. Surprisingly the refs listened to the coach and made the change. Catholic went on to win in OT 35-28. I’ve seen games in the past where the refs had it at 1st and 10 allowing for a first down. Sorry Picayune fans to bring up Catholic.

It appears things also got chippy at the end of the Tupelo/Starkville game.

Who would’ve thought 4 weeks ago when Canton was sitting at 0-5 that they’d be playing Holmes County in the last game of the season for 1st place in that region? They’ve gone on a run and now sit at 4-5 (4-0 in region) thanks to their defense that’s only given up 20 points during that stretch.

Especially since there’s some bad blood brewing from their first meeting.
