  1. There's also the Gov Cup game next midweek after the series in Oxford. Who knows, but I'd guess MSU takes 3 of those 4 games.
  2. MSU was within inches of plating the tie run in the 9th but was called out. A sweep would have been more helpful for MSU, but picking up the series win was the goal... and they accomplished that goal. Kudos. Next weekend is huge in Oxford. MSU really needs another series win while Ole Miss really needs a series win at home (heck, 0 SEC wins at home so far). MSU is trending up, OM is trending down for a NCAAT bid. USM is in consideration of a NS right now. Who would have guessed that preseason?
  3. Ole Miss put up 8 runs, including 4 in the 9th. It's too bad those 4 in the 9th was to tie it up before USC walked it off in the bottom of the 9th. Om is now 5-10 in SEC play, not good Bob.
  4. OM won 9-1 at USC, that helps. Hopefully this team will pick up another road series and starts finding a way to win at home.
  5. Yeah- OM/MSU better be focused on trying to win this weekend before thinking about next weekend... I suspect they are. Oddly enough, OM is 4-2 on the road and 0-6 at home in SEC play. I lean OM wins the series at USC this weekend and loses the series to MSU next weekend. Both teams are in a similar situation right now. Obviously, they need to start winning some series/pick up a sweep or two, and avoid getting swept the rest of the season.
  6. Yep, 14 is the number MSU and OM needs to be (basically) a lock for the NCAAT. 13, it depends a LOT on the RPI. I lean OM gets in with 13 SEC wins (assuming they don't crap the bed OOC going forward) but MSU misses out with 13. 12, definitely need a strong SECT showing... and probably an SECT win to get a bid. With a 4-8 SEC start for both teams, getting to 13 will be a task... 14 a bigger task. Both teams have a hill to climb and definitely need to pick up series wins (really could use a sweep) this weekend to get on track. USM is up to #9 in RPI, kudos to the premier baseball team in the state so far this year.
  7. B4, I was surprised MSU had an RPI that low, don't credit me for sharing that... just repeating what Kendall Rogers said. Gosh knows he knows more about this stuff than I ever will. MSU picked up the win tonight in interesting fashion. Tied 3-3 after 8. UAB scored 2 in the 9th, MSU answered with 2 in the bottom of the 9th. MSU scored another in the 10th to win. Pretty much like the OM win today, the win doesn't really help but the loss would have been really bad in the RPI.
  8. OM beat Murry State today. That sure wasn't a "yay we won!", more of a "thank goodness we didn't lose!" Ha Beating Murry does nothing to help, but losing to them would have hurt the RPI even more. Kendall Rogers was on SportsDrive today and talked about USM/OM/MSU. He also mentioned RPI is the biggest factor of getting NCAA baseball tourney bids. He's big on USM and thinks they have potential to be a NS. Currently ranked 11 and RPI of 11. OM is currently RPI in the mid 40s (I believe that's what he said), which should be good enough to get a bid. Only one team in the modern era ended up in the tourney with an RPI of 80 at this point in the season. MSU's current RPI is 90. I knew MSU had dug a whole, I didn't realize it was that deep. Plenty of time for OM/MSU to work themselves back up the ladder, but the margin of error is getting pretty slim for OM and is very slim for MSU.
  9. Tennessee won again to move to 12-0. Crazy start for UT.
  10. Ole Miss and MSU both get swept at home and are now 4-8 in the SEC. LSU is a good team, losing a series at home is one thing but shouldn't get swept. Bama is an average team, you shouldn't lose a series at home to them... definitely shouldn't get swept.
  11. Ole Miss and State both lost again today.
  12. UT won again to improve to 10-0 in the SEC. Florida evened the series vs Arkansas tonight, Arkansas still leads the West at 8-3. Ole Miss looked like dookie hosting Bama tonight, lost 7-4 at home. MSU leads LSU 2-1 in the 9th, the loser has the pleasure of sharing the West cellar with Ole Miss.
  13. Arkansas blew out Florida on the road 8-1 tonight. It's a shame Arkansas and UT don't have a regular season series scheduled this year, that would be a great one.
  14. USM is definitely in the discussion. Right now, I don't see any of the 3 advancing out of a regional... but plenty of time for any of the 3 to improve.
  15. UT won again tonight to move to 28-1 overall. MSU blew out UT Martin 13-2 at home. OM lost to USM 10-7 in Pearl. It's a midweek game, but still... OM pitching continues to be a concern this year.
  16. Lemonis made a comment about Tennessee baseball ~"They're playing like the best baseball team in the history of the SEC". Bold statement, but may well be correct. I wouldn't argue against it.
  17. It's too early to call a "must win", but OM and MSU both picked up much needed wins today. *Edited to add, that wasn't directed at you B4, your reply wasn't there yet when I was typing* Tennessee moved to 9-0 in the SEC with a sweep at #9 Vandy. UT has two road sweeps over top 10 teams and a home sweep also in the SEC... not to mention 27-1 overall. That's an insane start.
  18. Kentucky whipped OM 9-2 today, rubber match tomorrow.
  19. UT improves to 7-0 in the SEC with a road win at Vandy. Arkansas improves to 6-1 with an 8-1 home win over MSU. UT looks to be the cream of the crop in the SEC so far with Arkansas challenging. Ole Miss picked up a road win at Kentucky 2-1. Road SEC wins are always nice, but I'm not sure this OM team will end up hosting a regional.
  20. I agree, fair enough rankings. Still plenty of baseball left for both teams to work themselves up, or down.
  21. Road series are never easy in the SEC. OM needs to pick up a series win after getting swept at home. Kentucky is one of the few SEC teams that make that somewhat possible. Very tough weekend ahead for MSU. Arkansas and Tennessee look to be the best two teams in the SEC and maybe in the nation so far.
  22. Yep. I've been saying for weeks that this OM team can hit most teams but I wasn't sold at all on the pitching. UT definitely has had an argument to be #1 for a few weeks, they made a HUGE statement this weekend by sweeping Ole Miss at Ole Miss. Ole Miss will still win a lot of games and most likely be a regional host. I'm not so sure this OM team will be a national seed. As stated earlier in the thread, Bama isn't that strong of a team. Still, that was a nice series win for MSU. MSU is trending in the right direction.
  23. The depth certainly took a hit with Sims/Simmons. IF MSU plays better, I still think they have the talent to be a strong 2 seed or maybe even host a regional. Kinda of like you... top 20ish but I think they still COULD end up top 15ish. There certainly is little margin of error, pretty much need to sweep the rest of the midweek games and pick up 16-17 SEC wins. I wouldn't bet on that happening, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it does happen. Being a mid 2 seed or high 3 seed is probably the best prediction right now. I lean towards MSU ends up a high 2 seed, around #18-19.
  24. I'm curious to see how MSU plays over the next few weeks. I've kept saying the talent is there, they just can't seem to put it all together just yet. Sunday COULD be the game where they put it all together and the season turns around.
  25. Very true 83. Talent at MSU for basketball has never been a real issue... I'll add, I don't think that will really change. MSU boosters have always cared enough about hoops to errrr "help in recruiting"... with NIL deals now, that's much easier for everyone to do. I think Jans will prove to be a step in the right direction.
