Ole Miss Rebels - 2022 CWS National Champions

Landon Sims drafted 34th overall at pick value of $2.26 million. Good for him, young man is about to get PAID! -

The best explanation I have is repeating what I said earlier... the MLB draft is very unpredictable. I did read somewhere that Delucia was 6th round though, not sure? Same place I read Diamond was drafted in the 6th round before Delucia. That makes zero sense to me if true, but I'm certainly no MLB scout. ETA: I looked it up. 6th round, 11 picks after Diamond. Elko was drafted in the 10th round, that's probably the mixup Satch. Dulicia's estimated value is $284K, well over the $100K rumored to stay at OM. Below is a link to players drafted, you can filter down on any school for those interested. MLB Draft Tracker | MLB.com -

MLB draft is very unpredictable vs the NFL draft, but it wouldn't surprise me if Delucia gets a draft offer big enough to get him out of college. It also wouldn't surprise me if another college team put together a $200k NIL "offer" to Delucia and he took the transfer. IF the $100K rumor is true, I'd wager that's not enough for Delucia to stay at Ole Miss. -

It's not just the draft, it's other college teams offering NIL money to Delucia to transfer. Like I said, the landscape has changed. Delucia is about to get paid, and good for him... no matter where he ends up playing next year. -

NIL and the portal combined have changed the landscape of college sports. Obviously, it has changed football the most. Baseball may be the second most changed college sport, these players have been playing for partial scholarships for years so this NIL money means a LOT to them. -
That's a huge move by the B10 to keep up with the SEC expanding to 16 teams adding Texas and Oklahoma. A lot of talk was made about moving to 4 "super conferences", maybe just 2 "super conferences?" Is the SEC/B10 moving to 20-24 teams each and break away from the NCAA rules?

Bianco is pretty much an adopted Manning now. Always around but choked in big games- until he didn't. Eli and Peyton got two SBs, hopefully Bianco can get another natty... I won't complain without a second natty, it's all gravy from here. -
Yep, betting on Bama vs UGA in Atlanta is certainly the smart bet.

As said, way too early. I honestly have no idea where our 3 teams will end up. MSU- Leach has shown to have some pretty good seasons over a long coaching career while turning in very few losing seasons. Stabbing in the dark guess for MSU: 7-8 wins. USM- I agree Hall will turn out to be a good coach, maybe even end up in the SEC in a few years. He has a quite a rebuild at USM to do. Stabbing in the dark guess for USM: 5-6 wins. OM- I don't even know where to begin to guess. Kiffin seems to have his hands around the transfer portal and also seems to develop QBs pretty well. Altmeyer didn't play much last year, but I was pretty impressed how he handled himself as a freshman when he was thrown into the fire. I'm leaning he ends up being the starter. I want to make the "somewhere between 3-9 wins" joke here... but will refrain. I put the low end at 6 and high end at 10... so guessing 8 wins for OM?
-
Agreed B4. Last year's MSU team wasn't the best MSU baseball team ever assembled, but they won it all when the past MSU teams didn't. Last year's MSU team put it all together when it mattered.
-
No doubt, you have to have the talent but also have to be hot at the right time. The talent was there, but OM just didn't put it all together until late in the season. It was a "bizzaro world" OM season, typically the talent puts it together in the regular season then fades away when it matters. I'd argue OM has had more talented teams than this in the past, none of those teams "gelled" as a complete team when it mattered. Watching Elko help carry last year's team on one leg, it was awesome to see him and this year's team get a natty.
-
I'm not sure about pitching, but at the plate... definitely. Tredaway was the only SR starter at bat today... the rest were SO/FR.
-
Horton, the Oklahoma pitcher today, was almost an Ole Miss Rebel but went to Oklahoma in the end. Imagine IF Ole Miss had him and Elliot back next year??? Him and Elliot pitched a heckuva game for a redshirt freshman/true freshman... pitched a heckuva game if they were 2 Seniors.
-
I don't know what USM has returning, but solid program. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they picked up a baseball natty sometime soon.

HMFNCT!

HMFT!

The pitching by OM has been unreal in the CWS. Even in yesterday's loss, a "game 3" pitching staff only giving up 3 is typically a win.
-
Kind of old news today, but didn't see it posted here. I honestly expected it to be Georgia.
-
Yep Insider/chaingang, the hitting just wasn't there tonight- I'll add chased too many sliders. Ole Miss gave up 3 runs on third game pitching tonight, that's typically more than enough this season as game three pitching has been very spotty.
-
No doubt. I was expecting a high scoring game.
-
3-2 final Arkansas, OM/Ark meets again tomorrow. Best game of the CWS by far. Well, best game if you don't care about any teams, sucked as an OM fan. Ha
-
I picked Oklahoma vs Arkansas in the final. I HOPE I'm only half correct! On Gaddis, I read something that stated Arkansas does a tad worse vs lefties, so I suppose that helped lead to Bianco's decision. Any starter after Delucia/Elliot has been a roll of the dice anyway- seems like a good idea to try Gaddis. I may eat those words in a few minutes...
-
Ha, that's definitely looking ahead. How does OM matchup with (most likely) Arkansas the next game or two. How does A&M match up with Oklahoma for the next game or two.
-
*Future SEC* (including Texas and Oklahoma) sent 6 of 8 teams to Omaha. 4 of the 5 left standing are current SEC teams and the other is a future SEC team. This conference is already strong AF, and only getting tougher.
-
Yep, a TON of Ole Miss fans were ready to move on from Bianco after the SECT- most thought there would be no NCAAT bid and zero chance of Omaha even IF Ole Miss snuck in. There's no way to know IF Carter would have fired Bianco if no NCAAT bid was extended, I lean towards 60% chance it would have happened... a lot depended on who showed interest in the job if Bianco was fired. So much can change in so little time. Today, Bianco has 0% chance of being fired (rightfully so). There's also a decent chance Bianco gets a pretty good offer after this CWS run ends and takes it. Whatever happens, happens... it's been a wild postseason ride so far. We'll see how far it goes.
