they are still a dumpster fire. Did you not go to the game tonight?
-
ugh, not really!
-
By the way, Marcus Boyles was at the game sitting on the Meridian side and I wanted so bad to ask him to come out of retirement and take the Meridian job.
-
An example of how inept Meridian is, on the last play of the 1st half they commit a personal foul so Laurel gets to kick off the 3rd Q from Meridian 45 yd line. The Meridian back then catches it on the 15 yd line and takes a knee. Then on the first play from scrimmage the Meridian QB throws a pic 6. Just unbelievable!!
-
my issue with him is he has no clue how to run a modern high school offense. I also question his ability to motivate the players. I agree he inherited a dumpster fire but I don't see Meridian doing any better than 3rd or 4th in the tough division. If Meridian wants to get back to contending for the division they are gonna have to bring in a top notch coach and pony up some money for a top level staff. Maybe they could coax Marcus Boyles out of retirement.

Meridian has no QB and zero imagination on offense so opponents will just stack the line and make it difficult for the very good RBs they do have. On defense they are big & athletic but again not well coached and a more complex offense will expose them. The same teams they had trouble with last year they will have trouble with this year. The coach there is sooo bad!

Meridian is the exact same team it was last year, no better, no worse.

If this is based on the modern era (since intergration) around 1970 then South Panola would be the most accomplished. However, from the time football was invented until 1970 it was clearly Meridian. Unfortunately, a lot of the people that would know this are not around any more.

The stadium is just the right size for the event, the city has plenty of lodging & restaurants near by, and the location is in the middle of a hotbed of high school football. No other location in the State can match all these attributes. Ole Miss and Miss st stadiums are of course nicer but the nice areas are not even open during these games and the stadiums are really too big for the events. Jackson is a no go, too run down and sketchy. I would be happy if they make it permanent at USM.

Remember when he and Gardner Minshew would battle in those Meridian-Brandon games. Good Times!

I feel like this watering down just cheapens a State Championship. You really are just the best of 24 or 40 teams. In the future we'll really never know who's the best team in the state. It's really a shame. -
At the rate Meridian is dropping don't be surprised if they don't drop to 6A by the time this goes into effect. What about a division with Meridian, Hattiesburg, Wayne Co., West Jones, South Jones and either Laurel or Petal. However Laurel may be too small for 6A by then and Petal may be too large by then.
-
don't a lot of teams already have difficulty scheduling OOC opponents? If this goes thru they will have to find 6.
-
The only way I would be in favor of this is if the 7A champ will play the 6A champ in an end of season Miss. High Sch super bowl to determine the best team in the state. I guess in some years the 5A champ my have a legitimate claim but unfortunately that would just be too bad. I mean would you really want to call yourself a champion when you really are only the best of 24 teams. That is such a hollow claim in my opinion.

it's games like this that you wonder why even continue this series.

Forecast I'm seeing says thunderstorms. Is this game on TV?
-
expected to be terrible weather. I wish they would push game back to Sunday afternoon. Or at least back to Sat night

You are crazy if you think citizens of Bay Springs go to the Meridian Walmart before they go to the Laurel Walmart. Heck, you go to the Laurel Walmart any time of the day and about a third of the car tags will be Jasper co. Laurel is 20 miles from Bay Springs, Meridian is about 45 miles away.

when Poplarville residents want to go to the mall I bet they go to Hattiesburg rather than Gulfport or Slidell
-
The pine belt stretches from Waynesboro to the east, Columbia to the west, Bay Springs to the north and Poplarville to the south.

won 3 of the 6 titles, Columbia, Jeff Davis & Bay Springs.

WOW! what a tough loss for Senatobia. I think we all agree they were probably the better team but three terrible bad breaks in the 4 th Q lost it for them: The fumble that led to a TD then being off sides on XP giving Columbia the chance to go for 2 and then the missed short FG. Just brutal but congrats to Columbia for never giving up,

USM is the best location in the State to hold these games. Jackson stadium and field is no longer good for these games and while MSU and Ole miss both have bigger stadiums the extra seats are not really needed and their location is even harder to get to for majority of State than Hattiesburg.
