Wayne County - 350K+ Let the healing begin, Bring back W. Taylor
GCWildcatFan replied to slicklizard's topic in Football
It seems like the board is going to crawfish and give it to Lampley. I might be wrong but why else would they table the vote as soon as a bunch of community members showed up to the meeting. Community might have bullied their way into getting their candidate. I think Lampley is a great guy and was a great player but I hope he works out better than some other hometown heroes we have in the area -

From my understanding, that same certain coach was the recommendation but the board didn’t think he was the right choice as of right now -

It was unacceptable because you have two people who screwed everything up to begin with on the committee making the decision. From what I’ve heard, the retired coach is telling people that nobody had a say except Bubba and the interim superintendent -

I would agree, but how does the committee see him? Do they think he will actually come and stay or would he be gone as soon as the next college offers him a job? That’s a big risk to take. Plus, you have to wonder if he can relate to high schoolers like he does college guys -

Pretty sure they still have Mitch Evans in the hunt -

He won a state championship in his second year with the #1 WR in the nation and 11 other guys that signed scholarships. I’d say he did stumble into it. -

It’s an inside joke. We were not being serious about him getting the WC job. It’s Kats, pounds, or Mitch’s job if you ask me -

He is the OC at West Marion. He is a really good coach, play caller, and sharp mind. He will make a good HC one day. We joke around about him, but we aren’t going to stoop that low. -
I agree with Brick. Go get the Lane train

I’m so confused about why this is such a big deal. Your future head coach is and has always been right in front of you. Lane Brady is your man!!! Best darn OC this side of the Mississippi! would be a great fit at WC -

I’m not sure of how great of a staff he could put together at WC because WC doesn’t pay assistant coaches very well. I know this because a good friend of mine coaches at WC now. It only pays good if you have multiple years of experience within the district. I agree that Lampley and Gandy would both be good options. I agree that they could get more kids to play for them. I just think that is a massive jump for Lampley, and he is just simply walking into a well oiled machine like Picayune or West Point. WC football is in shambles. I think Lampley would have been fine had he followed Boyles or Mangum because it would be a matter of just coaching ball. I think WC needs somebody that knows how football programs work from the top to the bottom. -

I think Lampley is a great coach with great character and will be a very successful head coach one day. However, I don’t know if he is ready for a job of that magnitude, and I’m not sure if he has ever even called a play. I think with the current state of the WC program, you need to find someone that is from or has ties to the community, understands the COUNTY, and has head coaching experience. I agree with you on it not being Reynolds. He won with Pierson’s team. I think Carter would be a decent fit, but I’m not sold one how good of a coach he actually is, or has he just won because of the talent gap. I think Kevin Gandy would be a good fit now that he has a few years of head coaching experience under his belt, and it would right the wrong that Hathorne did. Mitch Evans would be a good fit. I wonder if WC would consider hiring another retired guy after the latest failure. Idk that’s just my two cents coming from a Greene County prospective -
Now you know that you’re throwing shade at Cowboy fans

I think he meant that most school are having to travel farther for district games in the current 7 class formats. There are a few schools that won’t play because of differences in the classification but don’t consider the level of competition is still very close

I agree that they will be much improved but I think Lumberton will just have too many athletes
-
I’m not sure where you are getting your info but they lost 3 WRs, QB, RB, and 2 OL. On defense they lost 2 DBs, 2 LBs, and 2 DL. That’s is a ton of production they are losing and that Jr high program was atrocious. I can see them fighting for 2/3 in the new district. Lumberton should win the district with Tville, stringer, and maybe Resurrection fighting for 2-4

I’m pretty sure he was like softball assistant. I was told that he took that job to get closer to his sickly parents
-
I think he might be at Stone County
-
He might actually be onto something here. USM has promised Missy the job multiple times and I’m sure her husband wouldn’t mind driving from Hattiesburg to FCAHS
-
If you are willing to hire somebody as “head coach in waiting” then why not just go ahead and give that guy the job?
-
I agree. It could have been much worse, but I think they should have went after a younger coach that would be more inclined to stay. I just haven’t seen a lot of retired guys be really involved in the community and truly invest in places if that makes sense.
-
Better question is why does GC hire him. He isn’t going to keep the spread offense, he will run off any decent coaches we have, and I feel like he will be gone after December.
