Well I would hope so. If you are going to play the game, fans need be there. I believe they can have a good plan in place after dealing with the kids that caused this to happen. Sports do not need to be high jacked by a few kids. It is not fair to the kids playing or the other students etc. that are doing the right things.

We need a short term “scorched earth” policy to eradicate this from the school and city. I am not one to usually advocate draconian measures but right now that is what is needed. Clean this out and let the students that want to learn and the kids that are doing the right things enjoy school and also play the sports that they love to participate in. It is past time.

No shooting that I am aware of and I live close to the high school.

From what I can piece together, there was a fight in the bus line after school. After that MHS announced that the game would be played with no fans. WL then said if no fans are allowed then we will cx the game and not play. Tickets will be refunded. Obviously, that leaves a lot of unanswered questions. I hate that the two teams did not get a chance to compete on the field and that a relatively few kids caused a game to be cancelled. Reflects really bad on those kids, their parents and the school.

Plumlee has not developed his passing enough to be a good QB. Fitzgerald, to his credit, became a decent passer to become a good QB over his career. Still he is fun to watch. Last night, Gus needed to let him go more than just trying to pass from the pocket. Game picks OM by a bunch. Altmeyer is starting. That is probably the biggest story there. Who is going to be the QB? I think Vandy sneaks in a win here. Kentucky pulls off the win. UF has a letdown and Richardson will have an off game with several turnovers. Arkansas should win at home but Scar is capable of an upset here. App State shocks the world again i.e. Michigan and wins in College Station. KState over Mizzou. Pitt over Tenner. Tennessee is better but not good enough yet to win on the road against a quality team. Texas rides some early emotion to hang with Bama for a quarter but then gets blown to El Paso (48-14). While AZ is improved I like the way State played last week. I believe with a veteran team we will play well again tonight and win against AZ. I know the knock on Leach is that he has one or two WTF games each year. However, with a veteran squad I am interested to see if that problem gets alleviated this year.

Very disappointing. I am at a loss for words. Agree with CC. Not the same school I graduated from or my children who attended back in the early/mid 2000’s. I am so disheartened to see what has happened to Meridian High. Yes it was once a great high school (the best in Mississippi) for decades. Unfortunately, those days are fading farther into the rear view mirror.

He is his Uncle so he might have some pull but mostly it would be Arch and his parents. I could see him listening to Peyton and Eli for their opinions and such. They could certainly provide some good guidance with regard to college and NFL football. But I digress, in the end , Peyton would have nothing to do with his decision.

Had Cooper not been injured, it would have been 100% certain that Peyton would have gone to Ole Miss. Very unfortunate set of circumstances for him, the Manning’s and Ole Miss. Just don’t see Arch going to Texas.

I thought Arch was Cooper’s son. If I recall correctly, Cooper attended Ole Miss as an undergraduate student. If that is the case, then he would be a legacy student at Ole Miss. Nice photo of Austin. Look a bit closer and the scene might not be so pleasant. Like I said, I loved Austin in the 1980’s. Made several trips there from when I lived in DFW. It was great. Unfortunately, like a lot things in life it has changed for the worse. I really do not care where he goes to school. Hopefully it will be where he can get the best academic education for what he wants to do in life in the event Football does not pan out.

Could not have said it better myself. Ole Miss is his legacy. IF he is really that good I hope he goes there. Otherwise, I can think of several other schools outside UTA where he will do very well for himself.

Sadly, Austin itself has become a cesspool. Once a great city, it peaked out about 2000 and has declined precipitously over the last 20+ years. Texas football was once great as well but the team players, fans and alumni have become so entitled that I am not sure they will ever return to glory. All that money is great but with money becomes the ability to manage it correctly and leverage it to the best potential for your university. Texas forgot that being a member of a conference means you don’t act like are an Independent. I don’t particularly like that they are going to be part of the SEC. This coming from someone who likes Texas greatly as a child. In fact I was so happy when they beat Arkansas 15-14 in one of the greatest games ever played in 1969. Unfortunately, they are nowhere close to the classy Texas I grew up with. Maybe we will see a different culture in the future but somehow I doubt it. I hope Arch comes to his senses before he signs.

If Meridian plays like they did at Laurel it will be an easy victory for WL.

Great finish. Florida State was the better team tonight so it was fitting that they blocked the XP to win it. Poor call by FSU to pitch the ball at the one yard line to give LSWHO a chance.

So very glad that Arizona won last night impressively. Now I know we will not overlook them. Going to be a tough game on the road in the desert but so glad it is at night. Tucson is at higher elevation so while the temps are warm that does help moderate it a bit compared to Phoenix which is like an oven this time of the year.

I was wrong on Oregon and Georgia. Thought it would be much closer than that. Also, thought Utah would win but kudos to Florida on the win. ND covered against ohio state. Arkansas covered barely over Cincy. USM with a heart breaker. But they are much improved.

The interception was the receivers fault. He misread the coverage and stopped his route. They were playing mtm and he thought they were in a zone. But other than the two turnovers, the offense played very well. Defense was very good. Memphis’s points came off the turnovers and then after the outcome was long settled.

It will be at least 10P for this game starts back up.

In the old days Coach Sherrill talked about winning each month of the season.He said if you did that you were going to have a good season. I think that helped temper expectations but at the same time giving hope that if you lose one game the season is not ruined. If Ole Miss wins 3 games a month this fall it will be a good season. Oh and by the way, I get it…

And I did not say it was a fluke. I just stated that it will be interesting to see what happens if D’Iberville plays a clean game.

and see I have a different perspective on Coach Croom. The record did not indicate it but he did a lot of good things for the State program and he set the stage for the success we have had over the last 12 years. He recruited well (that 2010 defense was loaded with talent) and he left the cupboard in good shape for Mullen. I know he was hard headed. From what I understand, McCorvey wanted to open the offense but Croom would not let him do so. I will always love Coach Sherrill but the last two years were very bad and it took some years to recover from that. Croom did an excellent job of completely rebuilding the program after 2003. Yes there were some disastrous games (Maine 2004 and Auburn/OM in 2008. But overall he left the program in much better shape than he found it.

If he did I think it is awesome. Now I don’t advocate smoking for kids but a victory cigar is aok in my book occasionally. I love that tradition with Alabama and Tennessee.

I go back farther than even that. I listened to games on the radio in the 1960’s , attended my first State game in the early 70’s. Maroon is my blood type as my Dad, three uncles on my Mom’s side were all State grads. I well understand losing as we had many lean years in the 60’s and early 70’s with sporadic success occasionally. Bob Tyler changed the dynamics of the State-Ole Miss rivalry in the 70’s and though Ole Miss has a comfortable edge in the series, it is much closer today because of him. Had Ole Miss listened to Coach Vaught and hired Tyler in 1970 after he retired, Ole Miss would have continued the domination they enjoyed from 1947-70 for another 30 years. As a result I appreciate winning today and while I hated Ole Miss as a youngster, I no longer really have any angst at Ole Miss. Obviously, I want to win when we play each other but outside of that, I generally pull for Ole Miss to win they play other teams and OOC teams. It is better for both of us if we are both successful. I have seen the great wins (6-3 Bama in 1980) and the miserable losses (24-23 OM in 1983) which is still unbelievable to this day. I have sat in the cold rain to see a great win (7-6 over LSU in 1974) and horrific loss to Ole Miss in 1986 when it was 40 degrees and raining. But they have all been worth it. I will be there Saturday night to cheer on the Dawgs. I well remember listening on the radio with my Dad in our den in 1974 when we went 98 yards in last three minutes of the game to score against Memphis State and then Felker scored the two point conversion to win the game 29-28. Rebm, you are right in that staying loyal to your team makes the high points worthwhile even if does not happen too often.

I am in no way demeaning Laurel. They played well and earned the win. I just stated it is hard to know how good they are based off last Friday. If they have to sustain an 80 yard drive , will they be able to do it? If D’Iberville does not turn the ball over, will Laurel be able sustain long drives. Will their defense get tired if they are on the field a lot? Just some questions that might be answered this week because they were not last Friday. I think a few years ago, Florida had about 500 total yards and Missouri 150 yards but they had 7 turnovers and blocked punt and KR TD and Missouri won the game like 49-17 or some other crazy score. As I mentioned, it will be interesting to see how this game plays out.
