Tremendous comeback by Ole Miss. Crucial game against MIA today.

LSU pulls another rabbit out. Down 6-2 in the ninth inning. Tied it up and then win in extra innings. Tough loss for USM. Now they have to win three games in two days. Difficult but not impossible but it is difficult to overcome blowing a 4 run lead in the last inning.

Looks like the rain may finally be exiting the MIA area. Hope they have a good drainage system there. I think they will get to play ball later today.

LSU won but they used 4 pitchers last night. Their pitching was already shaky but they are similar to State. They are able pull out a rabbit from under their sleeve at any point in time (as they did last night). MIA is still getting rain. Will they get to play at this weekend? I know they will have to start tomorrow if it is going to happen.

Owls are shell shocked. Can they recover with three outs left? If they do not, then they are liable to lose to Army tomorrow. A game like this will completely destroy your psyche.

83 , agree with you. Neither Kennesaw or LSU have any pitching. Definitely a golden opportunity for USM this weekend.

Kennesaw’s pitching is failing now. 11-10 in the eighth inning and LSU is still batting.

Yep Kennesaw might put a monkey wrench into that matchup. 5-4 but still very early. Pitching is nonexistent to this point.

USM edges Army 2-0. Heck of a good win. Of course at this point “just win baby” is the motto. Campbell beats Georgia Tech 15-8. We know all too well that Campbell can rake. Also Georgia Tech usually loses in Regionals anyway so no surprise there. Weather in MIA is similar to what it was in HBG back in 2017 when State beat USM twice to win the Regional after rain played havoc with it all weekend. Just hope they can actually play and get all the games in by Tuesday.

Dang Reb. That is painful. We saw State lose in the Regional finale in 1989 and 1992. The ‘89 was probably the best team in State’s history. Finished 20-5 in the SEC as champions and 54-14 overall. Lost to NC in the regional final. It was gut wrenching. That team had everything needed to win the CWS. But in a short weekend regional anything can happen. Those were the days of the 6 team regionals. OTOH, we were there in 1997 when we beat Washington twice to come out of the losers bracket to win the regional. Thankfully we never got to State for a regional when we were already eliminated. Over the years we have had some fun with some friends in LFL. One year, Tennessee Tech was at State and I think they beat Ohio State and the whole team was fed like kings the rest of the weekend out in the lounge. That was a lot of fun.

USM better be ready for Army. They are a battle (no pun intended) tested team with experience. This is their Fourth straight regional appearance. So they will not be intimidated by playing in front of a big crowd. Every body is talking about LSU and USM but Army is no pushover. And as 83 noted Kennesaw is solid, not a great team but decent. Actually I am not so sure that the gap between Army and Kennesaw is as big as the RPI shows (154-47). As we all know, there are no gimmies in a Regional.

Lastly never forget $$$ comes in to the picture as well. If Ole Miss were to win the Regional then the SR would be a huge windfall for the NCAA regardless of where it might be played. I know they claim money does not affect it but that is BS. The NCAA likes making more money not less. Ole Miss has a much bigger revenue potential than Rutgers, NC State or Alabama. Interesting that two of the final four in Omaha last year completely failed to make the NCAAT this year.

Not a stupid take at all. Tennessee is certainly the favorite but they are due for some WTF moments and those have a way of rearing their ugly head in the post season. Every thing has been easy for them but all it takes is another team playing great in one game to beat you and then a second game where you make errors, leave men in scoring position and or have a bad day on the mound and you are out and done for. We have all seen it happen to our own teams more than once. Well this should protect Bianco’s job. No way they will fire a coach whose team is playing in the postseason. Right??

My gut feeling was correct. Ole Miss is in. I believe they can make a run but MIA and AZ are certainly tough teams. But both are beatable. USM with an interesting group. LSU is….well LSU is not the LSU of old but still capable. Army is an interesting team. You know they are going to play fundamentally well. Not necessarily very talented but a team you cannot overlook. Do not know much about Kennesaw State but you don’t luck your way into a Regional.

Well USM should host but the NS is out now. Ole Miss is probably 50-50. The SECT counts some but the regular season is more important. I think they sneak in as a 3 seed. Just a gut feeling on my part.

Hopefully Bianco remains as the Ole Miss coach but the smoke I hear is that if they miss the NCAAT he will be fired. However, if Ole Miss sneaks in as three seed, look out as I think they could win a Regional. Hopefully USM wins out to secure a NS.

I certainly hate to hear something like that happened. Sports are a zero sum total. For every winner there is a loser. In baseball nobody is going to go undefeated during a season. Particularly in the SEC, where what Tennessee did this year is extremely rare. We know the SEC is very competitive top to bottom in baseball. I think Coach Bianco is a tremendous coach. And the fact that a fan was and I am guessing here, vulgar and obnoxious among other things at a game is inexcusable. Some of our own State fans have been the same way toward Coach Lemonis less than a year after we won the NC. I just don’t get it at all. Just disappointing and a bad look all the way around. It is okay to be disappointed when we lose but personally attacking the coach and or players verbally and/or otherwise (social media etc.) is very demeaning to the person themself, the team and the university.

WOW Lady Dawgs take down Florida State 5-0 and 4-3 to win the Tallahassee Regional. What an uplifting way to end the weekend after baseball finished up yesterday. Florida State was 54-5 and the overall #2 seed coming into today. Tremendous wins by our girls. First ever SR for the softball program. Did we have a baseball team at State this spring? Very proud of the ladies!!!!

Well I know this is a baseball thread but both of our softball teams are still alive today. Obviously both have a monumental challenge (State @ Florida State and Ole Miss @ UCLA) to win two games. But that is why the games are played. Would love to see both advance though it is not likely. At the same time I am proud of where we are in softball these days. Both programs are solid top thirty teams. Obviously we would like to see them continue to move up. A lot of good things are in place though. With that said, go Lady Rebs & Dawgs!!!

Jimbo is a decent coach but a whiner he is. And he also proves that talent alone does not win big. What Saban said was spot on. IMHO, I don’t see Saban coaching much longer given the upheaval in college football and the fact he has nothing left to prove. I think at some point soon he will say “I am done”

A&M is still all smoke and mirrors and it is about to crack up on them. Schlossenagle is a tremendous coach. USM with another win has definitely put themselves in position to host but they will probably need to win CUSAT to guarantee it. I agree with Reb that Tennessee is very liable to lose in either a Regional or SR. They have a great team but when you get into Regionals, everybody is good, the pressure is intense, games are usually closer. They have had an easy time of it but are probably due for a stretch of difficult games where WTF moments happen and nothing comes easy. State is mercifully finished. In this particular case, I believe it will be a good thing, to start with a new roster next year as most of the regulars will be gone,
