maroontide06
Will we get into a hot clock tonight against Laurel? If we do I hope it will be late in the ballgame. I feel like I don't get my money's worth when the oil in my truck's engine is still hot. I'd like us to win convincingly, but I certainly don't want a shortened ball game either. Just keep the game under 35. When you get up by 34. (And you will) miss the extra point on purpose. Lol

Lol I have a feeling this game could get ugly real quick. I don't think it will be like the knock down drag out games that we've had against Laurel in the past. I don't think they use hot clock in playoffs and I don't think Coach Stogner would like to look at it that way at all.

Well if they don't that will be good. We've just dealt with it so much and I'd like us to play a full football game without having to worry about hot clock. We are at that time of year where we need the full game for endurance purposes. We need to get used to playing full length football games. Lol Some coaches want the running clock to eliminate injuries. Last week, Ocean Springs scored to get to a 33 point lead in the third quarter, and went for two to get the clock running and send everybody home thirty minutes early.

That might be where the difference in fans and coaches come into play. If I spend my hard earned money on a ticket then I want to get my money's worth and not feel shortchanged. If I'm Picayune I'd receive the ball first and set the tone. At the end of the day no matter the circumstances this is still Laurel.
David44
I have held off responding to the WJ/WC referee controversy so that I could get as much information as possible. Here's what I have found from reliable sources: The WJ basketball coach is part of that crew, but was in the press box. Another member of the crew did not show up, so yes, the WJ coach came out of the box and was working the WJ sideline. He did not throw a flag the whole game. The film was sent to Jackson and reviewed. They said the holding calls on the 2 WC TDs were obvious calls for whichever referee threw the flag (but again not the WJ coach...) And it gets better. The no show referee is an attorney in Wayne County. So if he came, you would have had a WC guy on the field. I guess that is better than a school employed ref. , but not much. I feel like if we had to go up there to Watkins Field we would probably be in a dog fight, but I don't think that will be the case tonight. I think Picayune will be locked in tonight and will take care of business. The real season starts tonight.

U Remember When
May have to face EC again next week and that game was not exactly a blow out. One of the closer games the Tide played all season. No disrespect to the Mustangs, they are always tough. Y'all be safe.

If you look back over the years Picayune has been better between the bricks than at home and I hope the kids don't have an attitude that the game is over. They are still Laurel and the game has to be played.

I remember those dog fights we had back up there in 2001 and yes we won up there, but I think what happened last week will prepare us for tonight. I havn't been on the forums since before our game last week with Wayne County and honestly been out of touch most of the week and a friend of mine just text me this morning about this situation with the men's BB coaching officiating. What I was told was basically what David44 said above. An official called and said he couldn't make it about an hour before kickoff so the association called the only one left, and it happened to be the west mens bb coach. Supposedly BOTH head coaches new this and signed off before kickoff. All officials at the game, plus coaches all had to make statement to the MHSAA this week. Film was sent. And apparently it came back that no fault by the official in question was found. HE DID NOT THROW THE FLAGS that some WC fans are saying he did. Now word going around over here is that ole Bubba over at WC is all butt hurt and cancelled some basketball games between the schools. And some baseball games are being threatened as is all future future games as it was being assumed that WJ/WC would continue to schedule each other non-district after the reclassifications next year. I figure he is still pissed at all the butt-whooping wj gave his NEJ squads all those years, plus the 5 consecutive losses while he has been at WC and he just can't let it go. Right after I was told all of this I texted ole slick to see wtf cause I figured he would know. He didn't have much to say. WITH ALL THAT SAID. My personal opinion is that this really shouldn't have happened. They should have played the game down 1 official. Maybe the state could get more officials if they paid more per game. Use some of that playoff money they are rolling in to pay officials the next year. Didn't this also happen at a South Panola game last year where their Baseball coach was officiating a game. Merlin
As far as the playoffs, granted as i post this most of the games are in the 4th Q. But even with WJ having like 7 starters out hurt since basically halftime of the Laurel game, I am not sure why anyone thought EC would have a chance to beat WJ. Even if all the starters were still out, WJ beats them by 2 scores. WJ has met them in the playoffs 6 or 7 times over the years, and 2 of those seasons we were told "watch out for EC, they average 40 a game", "They put up points and wear you out.", "They can upset us", and we beat the hell out of them every time. I guess its a matchup thing. Where they just do not have the players we do (even in our down years). Or that offense just flat out DOES NOT work against us unless you have the talent level of Picayune (or at least 3-43 juco kids and a d1 kid on that offense). Because WJ has beat them by 20+ every single time they played. At the time of this edit EC got its first first down of the game with about 7 minutes left in the game and WJ leading 38-0. Merlin
I had a little hope that Laurel could knock of Picayune and WJ could host Laurel next week, while being back mostly healthy-ish, in a revenge game. And that somehow Hattiesburg could get to South State and meet WJ again so WJ could get more revenge.
