CFB Week 5 Thread

Kentucky certainly had their opportunities but credit to Ole Miss with a couple of great defensive turnovers there late. Both teams are good. I would image a lot of players are going to be in the whirlpool today. Very physical game.

State’s OL was the MVP. Obviously the turnovers and blocked FG were huge. But Rogers was not sacked yesterday. The teams that have one or two athletic fast pass rushers give State fits i. e. the guy from Bama , can’t think of his name and Sam Williams at OM last year. That is our weakness. Yesterday we blocked and we ran the ball well too. 144 yards on the ground was big as well.

The earth got back on its axis last night with Georgia eeking out a win and LSU came back to beat Auburn.

Ole Miss #9 and MSU #23 in both polls today.

Ole Miss should be at or just below the Top 5 when they go to Baton Rouge in 3 weeks. That will be a massive game, probably either the CBS 2:30 game or a night game in prime time.

State‘s remaining schedule is really tough. But on its best day this is a Top 10 caliber team. The issue is you don’t really know what you’re getting in a given week.

If I had to call it today I think both teams finish 8-4. But I think OM is more likely to exceed that and State more likely to fall short of that.

As of right now I have OM losing to LSU, Bama, Arkansas, and either State or A&M but not both. I have State losing to Bama, Georgia, and either Kentucky or Ole Miss, but not both.

Egg Bowl still feels like a total toss up as of today. Homefield is on the side of Ole Miss but the law of averages says it’s really hard to win 3 EB’s in a row unless one side is absolutely terrible (State from 2002-2004, Ole Miss at the end of the Nutt era). So who knows.

All of your points here are fairly spot on.  I don't think we lose to Kentucky because frankly I feel like we are better than them and we should be.  I also realize the Egg Bowl will probably be a toss up, but I think Leach gets his first win this year.  We stand without excuses in both of those games.

I agree that State is probably better than Kentucky but Lexington has been a house of horrors since 2016.

Granted, I realize a lot of that can be attributed to State’s incompetence in those years. But UK plays really well at home.
