Slick 5A Top Ten Pre Region

This list took a little looking to compile. The top spot was easy but the rest all have warts of some kind. The good news is that doctor region can cure those warts for some. For others it will be disabling.. For the one liners with no thought ( Laurel, mainly) go smear your dookie on your own wall.  Everyone else feel free to point out strengths and weaknesses .

 

1.  Picayune - the view is the same for everyone but the lead dog.  @PRC,, hahahahahahahahah

 

2. Ridgeland. - beating Pearl and NWR is no small feat  @ Provine. Their physicality will be tested

 

3. East  Central They have beat everyone in front of them and that’s enough for the poll this week.Host undefeated West Harrison.

 

4. Gautier - I will let them rest here until they have to play defense because their offense is struggling. Hosting George County won’t be that game

 

5.  West Harrison - undefeated but this Cinderella will be tested in Hurle Friday. @ East Central 

 

6. West Jones- under the radar they have this Friday @ Brookhaven. Let’s send in the Mustangs to do a voodoo check in the land of the phantom flag

 

7.  Laure- I’ll put them here because they can score a lot of points. That defense could fall apart in region play any week. host cupcake eater Florence

 

8.West Point - It’s a new season now. I will give them a chance to rise just out of respect @Lafayette

 

9. Wayne County- Have the capability to beat anyone on this list this week but the Maroon Tide.They would be just as likely to lose. I see them more than most and I think our coaches get the most out of what we have. Being honest, we lack explosion against decent defenses so far.    @ South Jones 

 

10.Florence- You have been on the little Debbie training regime. We’ll see how that works out. Big bump if you can knock off Laurel down on the swamp cabbage             brown turf. Don’t step on the snipe hiding in there. It’s that bad.

Will definitely be interesting. West Harrison being able to compete if they do Friday then it sure is a hell of an accomplishment given their history so far.

Poor PRC.  That thing is going to get ugly fast.  Owen needs to agree to a hot clock before the game starts.  I honestly think Picayune will have 3rd stringers in the game before halftime.

You're probably right, but you've got to tip your cap to Slick posting this.  This has been a long time coming.  I'm glad we have the return of the Slick10 Poll.  Who would have thought that half the teams in region 4 would be undefeated at this point?  And it's teams that you would not expect like West Harrison and Vancleave.  When West Harrison and Vancleave play that will probably be a very important game with potential play-off implications involved.  Things in 5A South definitely aren't mundane and boring LOL!

Is PRC simply devoid of athletes the last few years?  They are a long, long way from the Collins years from ten years ago.

I would say absolutely yes. They have looked down right bad the last 2-3 seasons I have watched them. They have tough kids that play hard. They just do not have very many athletes at all coupled with talent pool not very good. It is not a good situation for them right now.

Not very impressed with either of them honestly. Both have played a relatively easy schedule. Vancleave's resume appears better because they beat a 3-1 Hancock, but if you look at Hancock's opponents, they've beaten up on some bad teams so I do not think they are very great either. Vancleave has a 3 game stretch to prove if they are legit playoff contenders or not the next 3 weeks after they devour a terrible Long Beach on Friday. Picayune, George County and Gautier will be definitely set the bar of how good Vancleave really is. West Harrison has only beaten 1 team with a Win so far and it was Bay High. So, I definitely see them coming back to earth this Friday vs. East Central.

Spot on post here.  Is there a solution for their problems?  Yes there is, but will they do anything about it remains the question.  They should have already done something about it, but for some reason it's been crickets.

Well, judging by what you're saying here you should also be saying that you're unimpressed by east central. The win against biloxi might end up being an okay win, but they played moss point who looks awful and south pike who has athletes but allowed 35 points to long beach.  What's the difference? 

 

Vancleave has beaten teams that they're supposed to beat convincingly and has a really good win over Hancock. I think they're a very tough team and are sound schematically. Fant has done well. 

 

Now if you want to talk about teams that the jury is out on, let's talk about George County. They took a loss to Greene County, who Vancleave beat the brakes off of. Got their faces stomped in by ocean springs and lost a close one to Gulfport in game 1. They also apparently polayed Citronelle out of AL, who is currently listed as being 0-6. So what's your indication that George is any sorts of good?

 

Picayune is the top dog. After them though, the entire district is wide open. The only teams that I'm going to say aren't in contention are PRC and Long Beach. Everybody else will be in a dog fight for spots 2-4 and it will probably come down to the wire for spot #4 between whichever two teams that may be.

My post was not  about or directed at any of the other programs you listed. I simply responded to West Harrison and Vancleave. I still do not think either Vancleave or West Harrison are playoff contenders at this point. Could they be? Sure. However from the eye test of what I have seen of both teams, I do not see it. I also did not state George County as being any sort of good either. However, I do believe George County has the athletes available to beat Vancleave. Will they? Who knows. I just know Vancleave has yet to play a team with great athletes (their big achilles heel) and they will have to soon enough so we will find out how good they are.

This had to have been a George Co-Citronelle JV or ninth grade game that was inadvertently posted to varsity schedule.  No high school football team will play a Tuesday game between two Friday games.

I thought it was extremely strange as well. I looked into it a bit before I said it, because I was about to say that George is winless, but then saw that game listed. I believe you're correct though more than likely.

I think you nailed it especially with the first 3. After those first 3 who knows. I still say any of those teams flying low under the radar like a  West Jones, Vancleave, or a Wayne County can get hot and make a run. Wayne County and West Jones have that kind of pedigree. I still say West Point and Laurel will make noise and will make life difficult for their opponents. It starts this week.

You stated a while back Laurel was 6A. This is about 5A schools. 
 

It puts a warm feeling in my stomach that I was right about Laurel and your fellow nader has ran away from the board.just like I told him he would. I give you four or five more weeks on here at the most and you will be gone too. Enjoy the ride down.

It’s because they are in region 2.  Region 2 has 9 teams.

Everyone in Region 2 has already played 2 region games with the exception of Holmes County Central and Jim Hill.
