It’s highly possible y’all will be 6A this time next year since Mississippi is going to 7 classifications. In order to beat 6A schools on a regular basis, you’ll need to schedule them. If Laurel moves up to 6A next year from reclassification, you’ll probably want to start scheduling 7A schools. Also to address your last statement in the words of Lee Corso, “Not so fast my friend!” You’ve got that Maroon Tide to deal with LOL! Has never had one in 2A or at Ridgeland.. That one y’all had last season was running on fumes from when Breland was there. Laura’s gotten as close to a championship as they ever will with him as head coach in class 5A. You will score points early in the season but as it drags on and weather turns skill people get dinged up . That’s the time defense has to tote the weight and the point where Laurel gets bounced. At that point you will run away from the board never to be heard from again. Defense wins championships. I was just throwing some hypotheticals out there, but yeah if that's the case they might wind up being 4A when it's all said and done. Who knows? I actually think, and Picayune is the caveat here, that the typical 5A powers will stay 5A other than West Jones. I believe WJ, GC, Hattiesburg all go 6A with Goula and possibly Petal dropping. Brookhaven could possibly be 6A as well. South Panola would drop too I believe. BUT Picayune, West Point, Laurel, and Wayne Co have a great shot at staying 5A with Laurel a lock to stay 5A. You have to think that with the new classification that the top of the current 4A will move up to 5A so I see Laurel comfortably staying. I just haven't really paid much attention to what's going to happen with the reclassification. I think things will shake out just fine and I'll like that we will have a little bit more liberty to schedule some more non-conference games kind of like how it is with current 2A-4A.
