Picayune vs. Gulfport

Can Picayune win the second half vs. Gulfport this week?  If win/loss records were counted in halves Picayune would be 2-2.  Both Poplarville and Jefferson Davis County were able to make halftime adjustments and shut Picayune down the second half.  Will we see the same thing this week or will Picayune finally put together a complete game?

That has concerned me as well. I think we will be ready and I think we will handle Gulfport.

1) play the 2nd half like the first

2) make the short kicks/PATs that we used to

3) pitch to the rbs on target and on time

If we do that we will be hard to beat

Good assessment Tib.  I think if we can clean up the fumbles that will go a long way as well.  We don’t necessarily have to play a perfect game per say, but we can definitely execute better in the second half.  I would like to see us executing plays for 4 quarters without getting sloppy.

Shouldn't be much to this. Not sure of JDC, but Poplarville is better than Gulfport in my opinion.

I would think so as well.  I just want to see Picayune clean things up this week and play with the same effort and intensity at the end of the game like they have at the beginning of the game.  I realize those boys can get tired if they have to play both ways the whole night, but I haven’t seen where we’ve had to do that yet.  So in other words we really don’t have any excuses.

I'll say Picayune should win this just based on what they have coming back this year. Gulfport is good. It will be the first spread team that Picayune faces so some adjustments vs playing two straight Wing T teams. They'll spread Picayune out a little more on defense. That could possibly be challenge and take some time to adjust to. I think they probably will. I do think Gulfport can slow Picayune down offensively unless Poplarville and JDC are just that good on defense to hold them to 21 and 28. I didn't watch either game so I can't really judge that. Gulfport has a really talented RB that can make one cut and he's gone. Possibly may present problems. May not. I'll say Picayune 24 Gulfport 17.

My question is, what the heck is going on with George County?  Please help me understand how y'all got beat by Greene County.

We're young. Starting RB and center didn't play. Starting Slot moved to RB. Backup slot was injured earlier in the week during practice. So had about 4-5 guys out of position on a really short notice. We have 7  seniors on the entire team. Mostly starting sophomores. They're talented for sure. It's just an adjustment for them. Penalties have been untimely and mistakes have been made. They play hard and they've been in every ball game. This group is tough. They're gonna be special. I think they'll continue to grow and get better as the year progresses. Got a tough one this week at OS.

Well that makes a little bit more sense now.  The loss to Gulfport wasn't terrible since it was only a 5 point difference there, but I was just mind boggled at the loss to Greene County.  I think y'all are probably just going through some growing pains with a young team and having to deal with some unfortunate injuries.  It sounds like y'all will have a team to contend with sometime in the very near future.

fortunately this is a Picayune team that can cover. Spread does not worry me much (as far as the passing game is concerned). refs  tossing flags for def PI when the defender has position, is turned toward and making a play for the ball worry me more because i see it all the time.

If the qb prefers to pass from an upright position he's gonna have to unload quick most times. and it just might mean 6 for us if we start hanging onto a few more when we jump a route.

now with regard to spreading us out and running it with a good back who capable of taking full advantage -that can be a problem. It also means you have fewer guys to block so you will be meeting #11 and #29 on occasion. seriously though, for me, I am still trying to size up our lbs re consistent play. will let you know after Gulfport and I see how they handle it.

I didn't say it would be an issue. It's just different than the past two weeks for sure. I know Picayune's defense is pretty tough.

True the Maroon Tide has been a little sloppy in the 2nd half of both games but I think you have to give credit to the 2 opponents as well. I think both Poplarville and JDC will make it to South State championship game and probably advance. Both are very good on defense and have good enough running games to control tempo and that goes a long way when the temperature drops later in the year. Maroon Tide will be just fine.

yep. Poplarville and JDC fought to the very end. There is no give-up in those teams. we didn't give up either. maybe we just started too hot and burned most of the gas in the tank on the first half of the trip.

At this point last year I was not sold either. Let's give them a while to get all their pieces in place and see what we get. with a little luck, I think they can be very good.

I agree give it time, if you remember it was the 2nd half of the East Central game is when they got it going for the impressive run.
