Matt Corral is not a NFL franchise QB

Recommended Posts

All we heard about during the season was how Matt Corral was going to the NFL and would be a great QB for some franchise. We heard about it all during the Sugar Bowl even when he looked like crap and the offense couldn't score with him on the field. Depending upon where you look he's ranked as the #1 or #2 QB in this year's draft. Could this guy be more overhyped?

I think he will be an excellent NFL QB. Yes he will have to tone down some of his aggressiveness. But he has the intangibles that you cannot teach but only have by the grace of God.

I don’t follow the NFL anymore except for Dak but I hope the Saints draft him. I think he would be a good fit in Payton’s offense.

He’s absolutely going to get drafted in the first two rounds. I go back and forth on what kind of pro I expect him to be. The arm talent is undeniable, I’ll never forget the deep ball he threw 50-60 yards in the air for a TD in the 2020 Egg Bowl.

I do think it’s important that he end up in the right system, though. He fit Kiffin’s offense like a glove, pro offenses are a bit different but some are better suited for his skillset than others. It would probably help if he didn’t get drafted by a dysfunctional organization as well. I’ve seen some projections that have him going to the Saints or Steelers, I think both would be a great fit for him. But if you’re a Corral fan you want him to stay the heck away from Detroit or New York.

He’ll get drafted because NFL teams are always looking for the next great thing, but he’s not a franchise QB. He’s no where close to the QB he was hyped to be all season long. The Heisman campaign attempt sure fell flat quick! I watched every game and the offense was cringe worthy in large part because his passing ability was abysmal. He excelled with quick outs, check downs, and run first/pass second.

The title of your thread says he is not an NFL caliber QB, not a franchise QB.   He has just as much NFL talent as some NFL QBs now.  He’s talented, he’s a competitor, and he’s smart.  Barring an injury, which he played through half the season, he will be alright.

Bizzaro MST vs the MST of old. MSU fans have been pretty complimentary of Corall all year, and Ole Miss fan is flaming Corall.

Anyhoo- how will MC do at the next level? No idea. There's no doubt someone will draft him (most likely) in the first round. For MC's sake, I sure hope it's not someone like the Lions.

WHO drafts him plays a big factor into whether or not he makes it big at the next level. Detroit is a QB graveyard. IF MC ends up at a well run organization like Pittsburg, his chances of success improves a lot.

Look at Dak in Dallas. He's done better than almost anyone expected. Imagine if Dak was QB for the Lions or Jags? There's no way Dak's stats would be close to what they've been had he been drafted by one of those two teams. Heck, put Tom Brady on one of those two teams and see how far his stats fall.

If he goes 1st round he’s considered a possible franchise QB. I see your point though and I’ll admit I made an error with the title of this thread. He’s NFL caliber in that he can play in the NFL, but he’s being projected and hyped as a franchise 1st rounder which IMO he is not.

Ain’t that the truth? Where’s those MSU homers Bully and mhswriter (got a feeling he’s here by a different name)? lol

Rebmus be sure to spell MC’s last name correctly. It’s always been a challenge for me as well. lol

I’ll concede that Corral will end up being a backup for a little while, but he won’t find success as a starter. We’ve seen lots of talented QB’s that look much better than Corral fail in the NFL.
