Transfer Portal

What need would you like your team to focus on filling with the transfer portal?

I think the one time immediate transfer is an interesting change to the NCAA.  Good and bad.   There are so many players entering the portal I’m not sure some will be able to find a spot.  Those that do could also cause another player to transfer.

Just betting Ole Miss gets a pretty snazzy QB

Not just QB, Kiffin loves him some portal transfers.

With all due credit to Durkin, the OM Defense was also changed a lot by some transfers... Chance Campbell is a great example.

It's ironic, Tom Mars opened the door for this with players leaving Ole Miss wanting to play immediately and now Ole Miss is taking advantage of the new rules.

Reports have a TON of LSU players entering the portal. Allegedly LSU is burning the redshirt on Nussmeier because they don't have a QB left to play in the bowl game. Johnson entered the portal.

I read that about LSU.   The freshman WR from Jackson, Smith, is rumored to be heading to OM.  Two LSU QBs and one has a brother that decommitted  who is the top high school TE in the country.   That sucks that Nussmeier has to burn a year because other QBs are transferring and now don’t have to lose a year.  🤷🏻‍♂️

I hope Auburn gets Bo Nix an offense and a coaching staff. Hiring a random guy from Boise was a bad decision.

I was right about State pursuing a WR, sounds like they are the favorites to land a receiver from FlU that had 1,000 yards this season.

They are also in the mix for Marcus Banks, a corner from Alabama, sounds like it will come down to State and Miami.

Whoever gets Bigsby is going to get an absolute stud, I think that guy is awesome. Nix is intriguing in the right offense, I don’t think he’s great but he has shown the ability to have a big game here and there. That seems like somebody Kiffin would probably pursue, but I could be wrong. He may reunite with Malzahn at UCF.

Auburn football is absolutely screwed. They should never have hired that knucklehead from Idaho.

Bigsby will be a great addition to some team.

Nix is an interesting transfer. He showed flashes of being pretty good, just too inconsistent at times. In an offense like Leach's, with mainly short passes, he could end up with some really good numbers. I don't think MSU is looking at Nix, or even should be... just an offense similar to MSU's could be a really good fit for Nix.

Nix may end up at Ole Miss if other potential transfer QBs don't land in Oxford.

S Carolina also got a commitment from the LB from MRA that had been committed to State in baseball for a good while.

Stone Blanton. That one is just such a weird story with crazy online talk.

As I understand the story:

Stone was committed to MSU in baseball, no football offer a year (maybe 2?) ago. Stone rose up the football rankings at LB this past year and had football offers from multiple schools including Ole Miss (not sure if MSU ever offered him in football).

Stone kept sticking with his baseball commit to MSU and slow played everyone in football offers.

Ole Miss feels pretty good about another LB supposedly committing so they basically "ghosted" Stone since he never had committed verbally for football.

It appears OM and MSU both felt a football offer was better spent elsewhere.

Shane Blanton (Stone's brother, I think?) blew up on twitter this weekend about Ole Miss not sticking with the original offer to Stone.

It's quite possible I'm missing something, but it appears OM was interested and Stone slow played them so they kept looking around. MSU wanted him for baseball but didn't want him enough to offer a football scholarship (this part is more unclear, but how I heard the story).

Whatever happened, best of luck to the young man at USCe. We'll see if he makes Ole Miss and/or MSU regret not going after him harder.

I think State did end up wanting Blanton for football eventually, but it was pretty obvious he didn’t want to be at State. Had OM not backed off I fully he expect he would’ve been a Rebel. I don’t think he was a big fan of Leach for whatever reason.

I don’t think it’s a huge loss for State given that they have other LB’s of similar caliber committed and it’s not a position of huge need. But it was a kid State wanted and it’s a bit odd to see a kid like this end up at South Carolina.

I also wonder why State didn’t offer a 4* LB earlier in the process.  Or why he didn’t commit to OM in baseball originally if his family was OM fans.  That is a weird situation.

It appears MSU and OM both felt they had better prospects at LB already "in the boat" as they say.

Stone has a great opportunity ahead of him to make both schools regret that, we'll see how it plays out.

At the end of the day, recruiting can be a very inexact science. Schools sometimes hit on certain players and then other times they miss because you just never know how guy might develop over 3-4-5 years.

Darrell Henderson was easily the best HS RB that I have I have seen over the last ten years. Yet State & Ole Miss did not even give him a look and he goes on to  have an All-American career at Memphis and now is playing in the NFL. The guy had all the tools. He was like a modem day David Palmer or Dexter McCluster but better than those guys.

Nowadays there seem to be a lot gamesmanship around it too with players and coaches yanking each other’s chain.

Hopefully tomorrow is good but we will not really know for sure until about 2026.

I remember State had terrible signing classes in 1995-96 and then those guys ended up winning the West in 1998 and 10 games in 1999. Yet the signing classes were next to last in the conference.

The overwhelming majority of the time rankings are a good gauge of talking, and the teams that recruit well consistently are the best.

The only difference now is the team rankings tomorrow will need to be adjusted for players hitting the portal after one year.  Lol

The portal has drastically changed things.

Look at South Carolina that had a GA playing QB this year, now they have Rattler coming in to start next year.

I think with recruiting it’s more about your average ranking over several years. One highly ranked class or lowly ranked class doesn’t typically define what your program is, and for one given year the rankings can be wrong (see State’s 2011 class). But over a period of a few years I feel like the rankings tend to be right.

I.e., State recruits a lot of borderline Top 25 classes, no coincidence that they’ve had a bunch of borderline Top 25 teams.
