Lol it’s an hour and 20 min drive from Bay Springs to Columbia. I wouldn’t consider them being in the same area. Heck the majority of Bay Springs district (land wise) is north of the city. Long way from Montrose Mississippi to Columbia.

If it's in the wdam viewing area it's the pinebelt. Wayne co is 90 miles from Columbia, I consider them the pine belt as well

Once upon a time Wdam won't cover Bay Springs. It was mostly Wtok but now it's Wdam they make trip to jasper county from time to time. But we in the pine belt.

Find a map of Mississippi either online or in a Ms History book that has jasper co listed as pinebelt.  Pine belt people try and claim the entire Southeastern quarter of the state. Little ridiculous. The closest state champ to Bay Springs is Scott central, heck at least their counties boarder.

77 miles between Madison and Bay Springs, 73 between Columbia and Bay Springs. See what I’m getting at? Pine Belt people seem to draw new lines every year, it’s ever growing lol

kind of like when Golden Triangle people dip down into Louisville and Noxubee, when neither one of those are actually in it. Even saw a Golden Triangle guy try to claim Kemper Co on Facebook one time.

I’ve always considered the “Pine Belt” area to be around 30 miles from Hattiesburg whether it be North, South, East, or West. Also would include Columbia and JDC, however Bay Springs and Wayne County would absolutely not be included. Poplarville is more closely related with Picayune and some of the southwest teams in MS than the pine belt

when Poplarville residents want to go to the mall I bet they go to Hattiesburg rather than Gulfport or Slidell

In that case most of Bay Springs school district goes to meridian for shopping smh I could throw a rock from my house to bay Springs school district and I certainly don’t live in Pine Belt.

A lot of this would be like me saying the metro went all the way from Holmes County Central down to Magee, East to Scott Central and west to Vicksburg/Warren Central. But in reality the metro area teams are in Madison, Rankin, and Hinds County.

Thank you!

Wayne County is the exact same distance from Hattiesburg as it is from Meridian. WDAM covers every home game and most away games for WC. WTOK out of Meridian rarely covers WC unless we’re playing Meridian or Quitman . So I think the news media considers WC part of the Pine Belt.

WTOK used to cover you guys, Football Friday was bad this year. Worst I’ve seen of them IMO. They used to go as far north as noxubee, as far south as y’all, all the way east to Demopolis, and west to Forest.

my whole point is Bay Springs and Columbia are way to far apart to be consider local to each other.

Louisville is a definite no.  Noxubee County is just outside, but close enough when they’re good. Lol

Y'all are taking this way too seriously. The only reason I said it was the pine belt was because when I'm watching wdam weather and they show the map, they call everything from Magee and Wiggins going north and south and prentiss to Waynesboro East and West the pine belt area.

You are crazy if you think citizens of Bay Springs go to the Meridian Walmart before they go to the Laurel Walmart. Heck, you go to the Laurel Walmart any time of the day and about a third of the car tags will be Jasper co. Laurel is 20 miles from Bay Springs, Meridian is about 45 miles away.

I was referring meridian vs hattisburg (hub of pinebelt) not Laurel or wal mart lol but heck if you go to Newton wal mart there are Bay Springs bulldog and SBA bumper stickers and tags everywhere. That district stretches another 25miles north of the city itself!  Garlandville, Louin, Montrose, other rural parts of the county north of Bay Springs etc. They are not centered around Laurel like Bay Springs and south Jasper Co.

my original point is pinebelt people pull this every year trying to claim to be kings of HS football, while claiming almost 1/4 of the state as the “pinebelt”. Bay springs and Columbia are not local in regards to each other, not even close.

Madison Reb laid out a perfect example…

Regardless of area all three had damn good teams and represented their schools and communities well. Congrats to them.

We can go back and forth about geography, but the thread’s title is the truth.  Where I am, in northeast MS, there used to be communities like that.   For whatever reason, it’s not like that anymore.  No knock on the communities, it is what it is, but you can tell by the play on the field.

And these three counties alone have better football than all of the “claimed” Pine Belt. The only thing is that all of the Jackson area schools with the exception of St Andrew’s and Lanier are 5A or 6A.
