MSTSatchmo
I was expecting OM to have a special season. First 10 win season in school history and another NY6 bowl. All that with a banged up offense for half the season. Tonight the RB’s ran hard, and Corral is a heck of a competitor. State had a much better season than I expected. I thought after last year that Leach would not be effective against SEC defenses. Their improvement was crazy, and they were a couple drops from a different outcome tonight. rebmus
The rest of this and next weekend have plenty of huge games left, but no matter what happens Ole Miss is second in the SEC West and third overall in the SEC standings.
Dawg83
I correctly pegged OM having around 30 points. State’s offense had too many self inflicted wounds and missed opportunities and it cost them the game. Kudos to Kiffin, he’s done a great job at OM and the reward is a Sugar or Peach Bowl appearance. Corral’s career deserves to be celebrated, and he won’t be easily replaced. The Leach dynamic is an odd one currently, I think you legitimately have to view this as a successful season but the 0-2 record against Ole Miss is going to be hard for many State fans to accept. State returns a ton next year and I think many will have expectations of 8-9 wins including winning the Egg. I think we kinda know what to expect with Leach teams now, it’s going to be the typical roller coaster that his teams have always had. I expect State to be sent to the Texas or Liberty Bowl. I thought State would struggle to get bowl eligible before the season. After the first 4 games, I thought they’d be lucky to get to 4 wins, so 7 plus the improvement offensively is definitely a successful season. Now, how long will State fans be happy with 6-8 win seasons. I know Mullen left State for UF. A lot of fans were not sad to see him leave, though, and he averaged 8+ wins a year and was 5-4 against OM. I’m not sure Leach can match that success over a 9 year span. It’s too early to say for certain. The Ole Miss that Mullen dealt with was all over the place in those nine years. Moorhead went undefeated against bad Ole Miss teams, Leach is winless against good Ole Miss teams. So I guess I’m saying whatever becomes of OM in the next few years is important too. If Kiffin hangs around and OM continues to be a good program then history says it’s going to be hard to do more than split the series 50/50 from here on out, if Kiffin leaves and OM takes a step back with their next coach then I could see Leach having a run of success in the Egg Bowl. I tend to think Leach does well enough at State to retire on his own terms at some point. He has historically been a coach whose teams have a fairly high floor. Maybe a lower ceiling than some of his peers, but what you saw this year is pretty much the norm, and then when everything falls into place he can potentially have a big year like he had in 2008 and 2018. The Egg Bowl dynamic over the coming years will be interesting, but in general I think the odds are pretty good that State has a consistently solid program under Leach. Bulldogs4
D83, you called it a few weeks ago. State would finish 7-5 but you did not know where the wins would come from. Ole Miss was healthy tonight and it showed. An excellent season. For State, the losses to MEM, LSU and Arky could have easily been wins. Of course the LA Tech game could have been an loss too. But that game with the comeback was very significant to the confidence of this team. Some very good wins as well-NC State, UK, A&M and Auburn. Tonight’s game plan was fine. Leach did his part. Failure to execute was the culprit, especially in the first half. During the week I had a sinking thought that I tried to suppress. What if our WR/RB’s drop some passes in this game? They have been catching everything over the last 6 weeks. Those things do happen and in a rivalry game it can be magnified more than in a regular game. Also we have been spoiled by Rogers recently as he has been virtually perfect at times and tonight he was off just a tad. Overthrowing Polk in the end zone early was a huge play as well as the drops. Ole Miss’ defense played well too. So while it is disappointing to lose the EB again this year, the overall trajectory of the team is very good. The air raid can work in the SEC. Year two and the conference record is 4-4 which is solid. Certainly a big improvement over a 3-7 record last year.

Dawg83
My biggest fear going into the game was Sam Williams embarrassing Scott Lashley and that’s pretty much what happened.
Bulldogs4
Williams was a MAN last night. In fairness, Lashley has played pretty well this year but Williams is going to be earning a nice NFL check next year. One other thing last night. Don’t understand the on side kick with 7+ minutes remaining and down 11. Kick it deep. Hopefully Ole Miss is backed up into the student section. I think we would have a better chance of stopping them. Instead we gave their offense a short field and they took full advantage of it. rebmus
Cincinnati won again. As long as they beat Houston next week in the AAC championship game- they'll get a playoff spot. Georgia gets a playoff spot win or lose in Atlanta- assuming Georgia Tech doesn't shock the football world tomorrow. Ohio State/Michigan winner tomorrow stays/moves into the top 4. Alabama stays in the top 4 with a win tomorrow.

Bulldogs4
NCSTATE wins a thriller. That was a good win for State as they have had a good year to this point.
Dawg83
Michigan up 28-13 on Ohio State in the 3rd. Is this finally in the year for Harbaugh? Would firmly put Michigan in the Top 4 as well.
Bulldogs4
WOW Down goes Ohio State. Probably won’t happen but if Auburn beats Bama then the top four could really see a shake up.
Dawg83
Florida beat FSU to get bowl eligible. Greg Knox the interim coach remains undefeated. LOL. In all seriousness, they looked like they were playing a lot harder for Knox and David Turner than they had been playing for Mullen. rebmus
Auburn leads Bama 7-0 at the half. I doubt that holds, but Auburn's DL was wrecking Bama's OL in the first half.
