Last graduating class over 180 students. Current 9-12 grade about 150 per class one had 130. Wayne County may be in contention to drop to 4A for at least a couple years. This is very believable. If a person wanted any kind of quality of life beyond just scraping by for them or their kids there is no other way than to leave. If it wasn’t for mineral income the kids would probably be having school in a dam tent by now . Walmart taxes can’t bring in enough to up keep with all the overhead they have by now maintaining four campuses. If you wanted to help by bringing in manufacturing certain people who are afraid of higher wages would have you arrested.

Northern half of Smith County is mostly Bienville National Forest. So their land locked. No red lights, no Walmart.
Eagleman1228
Give it 10 years and Sumrall will be knocking on the door of 7A if they haven’t made it by then
pancho
What's the deal with football at Sumrall? Is it just a bigger draw for baseball?

It is definitely a baseball school and has been for quite some time. I have heard there has been a big influx of people moving that way and it will only continue to grow. With that growth, one has to expect the football program to become better in that regard. Will definitely be something to keep an eye on. Would take kids from Sumrall and Oak Grove.

There are probably some baseball players who would probably like to play football but with the success they have in baseball the players could be reluctant to play football because they fear getting injured and could miss time playing baseball Edited August 13, 2024 by Vott
